kelseyville is 29 degrees. 33 windsor, same for petaluma and novato. temperatures are not as cold as yesterday when we had a lot of 20s. you can see how this is rotates from the northwest. and this will play into our weather tomorrow. and it's going to be a very cool day. 40s and low 50s unless you're to the south and maybe a few mid-50s. 4:01, mr. castaneda. >> i'm doing well. right now traffic is off to a nice start if you're on 580. the tracy super commute looks pretty good. driving on 205 and 580 this is how early you have to get up before things get slow. livermore to dublin looks good. and san ramon to pleasanton as well. and no problems at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's 4:01. let's go back to the desk. happening today, president trump will host a group of parents, students, and teachers at the white house for the what he calls a listening session on gun violence. all the people invited have been affected including from colorado and connecticut. the president has a record of being a supporter of gun ownership rights. but now he's more open to some restrictions. that includes a possible ban on bump stocks which were not used in florida but they were used in the las vegas massacre. >> i signed a memo directing the attorney general to ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns. the president made the comments on the first day he honored first responders from the 2015 deadly shooting in san bernardino. >> we cannot merely take actions that make us feel like we are making a difference. we must actually make a difference. [ applause ] >> the white house is not saying if the president will support a bill calling for tougher background checks on buyers or raising the age on gun purchases. a news conference will be held this morning about how the sheriff's department stopped a student from carrying out a shooting at his high school. the student was overheard talking about the plan in whittier, california. and the security guard who heard it alerted sheriff's deputies. authorities seized several weapons and other evidence from that student's home. the student is described by authorities as disgruntled. the u.s. supreme court refused to hear a challenge to california's 10 day waiting period to buy a gun. gun rights groups argued that people who already own guns and pass background checks shouldn't have to wait 10 days. and the supreme court refused to hear a second case. california uses some of the money from gun sales to track down illegal weapons. the court once again refused to accept what they call the gun lobby's extreme interpretation of the second amendment. but clarence thomas criticized the other members of the court for not tackling the gun rights issue. if a lower court treated another right so cavalierly, i have little doubt this court would intervene. but as evidenced by our continued inaction, the second amendment is a disfavored right in this court. students who survived the shooting in parkland, florida, will meet in tallahassee today. the students arrived to applause from fellow high school students in tallahassee, florida. despite the students' lobbying efforts, the florida house decided not to take up a bill to ban assault rifles and large capacity magazines. the students intend to keep pressures state lawmakers. >> tragedies do bring people together. and although i lost 17 people -- they were my friends. some of them were almost like family. and you know, just other students and other kids my age supporting us in this way, it's beautiful. >> since republicans took control of the governor's office and the state legislature in 1999, florida lawmakers have done little to limit firearms. some will consider proposed gun control bills, including raising the age for gun purchases. one of the founders of the greatful dead is calling for common sense gun control measures. >> 16 years old. she aspired to go to the university of florida. >> last night at the vigil in san rafael. he read out the names of the 17 people killed in the florida high school shooting and passed out photos of the victims. about 100 people were at the vigil. activists that could be done but both sides antagonize the other. >> the gun control group called moms take action says 148 people joined their group. a judge ruled there's enough evidence to have an oakland couple stand trial. curtis taylor and laura rogers are accused of luring a 21-year- old to a park in east oakland where she was stabbed, beaten, and set on fire. ktvu later learned that the two women had developed a relationship while working together at a fast food restaurant and that did not sit well with taylor. last night yet another earthquake rattled the danville area. it was a magnitude 2.8 quake that hit at 6:15 in the evening in the same area where four small quakes struck yesterday morning. the largest was a 3.0. these quakes were all in the area around month vista -- mono- that vista high school. most of the quakes were too small to notice but for some people, it jolted them out of bed. >> felt like being nudged awake. >> it woke me up. actually, they don't bother me, just a little roll and i went back to sleep. nothing fell off the shelves or anything. >> reporter: the quakes appear to be happening on the calaveras fault. it's been a year since the coyote creek flooding. heavy storms forced thousands in san jose to have to evacuate their homes. there's a news conference this morning involving city, county, and state leaders along with the water district and the army corps of engineers. the water district will talk about the installation of flood barriers near rock springs park and finalizing an agreement with the army corps of engineers to proceed with a feasibility study that developing a potential federally supported improvement project. >> when coyote creek flooded, first responders struggled to rescue people and get them to safety. hundreds of homes were evacuated as coyote creek reached a record height of 15 feet. first responders went door to door trying to make sure that everyone was evacuated. but search and rescue teams didn't have enough people to respond to every call. >> towards the end we were in the boats, the water was getting deeper. and we could not longer keep our feet on the bottom. >> reporter: this was the worst flooding or water rescue disaster i've had to deal with in the city of san jose. >> we were peeling over teams away to help people in trees. we needed more people. >> the san jose fire department is increasing the number of high water rescue vehicles. it's a direct response to the flooding of coyote creek. and it purchased a vehicle that can drive through up to 8 feet of water. and they are adding more metal and inflatable boats along with personal water craft. ktvu has obtained video of a deadly police shooting. coming up. the body camera footage that shows an altercation before a bart about contacts with rick gates, the former trump campaign aide. and he deleted records of e- mails that prosecutors wanted. adam schiff talked about what he believed is the ultimate goal of russia's meddling last night during an appearance at the commonwealth club. >> far more fundamentally what the russians are after is undermining the democracy. turning americans against other americans. >> congressman schiff is the top democrat on the intelligence committee. and the nation needs to hardening the election infrastructure to better safeguard democracy. we are learning about a meeting that was supposed to happen between vice president mike pence and north korean officials in south korea. the vice president was scheduled to meet with the sister of kim jong-un but the north korean government canceled the meeting at the last minute. the vice president's office said north korea dangled the meeting with pence hoping it would ease tensions. pence's office suggests that they real estate that had pence would not back down from the firm stance the u.s. holds on the regime. the california state senate could vote on the political future of one of its member who is is accused of sexual misconduct. the democrat, tony mendoza -- the claims are he offered alcohol to a young woman. and asked several women invasive questions about their dating lives. most of the women believed complaining about his behavior would put their careers at risk. state senators could expel, suspend, censure, or even reinstate him. >> >> former san francisco board of supervisors -- officially kicks cargo on board. the falcon nine rocket is set to carry radar and imaging satellite into orbit for the spanish government. the launch is scheduled for this morning. the last launch had weather
