It is slower than normal and it will be staying that way all the way to interstate 680. 680 is slow from concord to walnut creek, 24 slowing through orinda and 80 westbound taking one hour or less to drive from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze and at the bay bridge we will be waiting for 25 minutes. We are following developing news in san jose where police are continuing negotiation stretching into 13 hours with the person who has barricaded himself in a hotel room. This is the Wyndham Garden Hotel on Silicon Valley boulevard. Leigh martinez is there and has been talking with police and hotel guests. What are they telling you about the situation . Reporter we are inside the hotel lobby where several guests have spent the night after they were evacuated from the second floor hotel room. We were told by police that they had negotiators in the room all night negotiating with a man who barricaded himself inside. The guests say that they do feel safe down in the lobby even though they have not heard much but we have seen police going in and out of the rooms. The merge is the swat team version in san jose. The guests say that they have had a fairly quiet night. On sunday afternoon San Jose Police found a suspect wanted on felony warrants inside of the Wyndham Garden Hotel. Police have been here since 6 30 yesterday evening. They have isolated the suspect and evacuated the surrounding guest rooms on the second floor. I cant get into the criminal history but at this point we have information that would lead us to believe a confrontation would not end well. Reporter negotiators have been talking to him all night. We are told they have not made much progress. Hotel guests who had to evacuated say they spent the night in the lobby. When we came back around 6 00 or 7 00, all of the police guys were outside of the hotel and they said it was a hostage situation and thats it. So we went to the room but they told us that is not possible so we stayed in the lobby. Reporter police could not confirm if the suspect is alone in the room or not. What we do know is there is a suspect wanted on felony warrants who barricaded himself inside of the hotel room on the second floor. He has been there all night but negotiators have not made much progress and at this point it is best if they do not force him to evacuate. They do not know if he is armed but they say it is best if they play this safely. The hotel guests say that they did not want to leave, they stayed in the hobby lobby. Leigh martinez, thank you. Police in san jose are investigating a deadly shooting that happened last night at 8 45 near charlotte drive just outside of an apartment complex. Police found one man dead after they responded to a report of shots being fired. It is not clear what led to the shooting. Today is day three of a Government Shutdown. Efforts over the weekend to resolve a funding impasse failed that we could see a deal this morning. Doug luzader has more on the negotiations and the impact of the closures. Unlike the last shutdown during the Obama Administration this time around many monuments will remain open and. The democrat resist relief programs will continue. A uc Berkeley Student who was detained by immigration officials in san diego for nearly 3 weeks is back home in the bay area. It is good to be back. I was a little bit nervous but im excited. Luis Angel Mora Villota is a junior at cal who came to the country from columbia when he was 11. Last month when he was visiting his girlfriend in san diego they took a wrong turn and ended up at an immigration checkpoint where he was held for overstaying his visa. After a Letter Writing Campaign and support from california senators he was allowed to return to the bay area which he considers home. He says this incident shows how broken the Us Immigration system is. We need a fix right now. There are so many people who have been criminalized when we are just trying to make this country better. Federal immigration officials have said ice will transfer his case to ice enforcement and removal operations in the area where he resides. The removal proceedings remain ongoing. An immigration judge must make the final decision on the deportation hearing which could happen one year from now. In the meantime he says this experience has him considering becoming an immigration attorney or judge. Starting today californians can apply for the new real id drivers licenses to comply with the federal mandate requiring more secure identification. Starting in october of 2020 you will need the new id to get on to a plane. If you dont have it you will be able to use your passport. The good news is you do have plenty of time to get your hands on one of those new ids. There is no need to rush to the dmv. Until october 1 2020 a valid california driver license or id card can be used. This will let you board a domestic flight enter military base or secure federal facility. To apply you need to go to the dmv and bring three things, an identifying document like a birth certificate. Also something verifying your Social Security number such as a Social Security card, paystub or w2 form. Finally you need proof of residency in california like a utility bill or lease agreement. The traffic is looking okay when it is not raining but this is a look at the south bay freeway system and we do have floating slowing near cupertino. Northbound 280 around san jose is looking okay. You can tell it is dry in downtown san jose. Lets get to Steve Paulson. Rain is mainly over alameda and oakland now but some areas are getting good rain and others not so much.
