christmas day terror attack at san francisco's pier 39 is due in court today after being indicted on federal charges. 26 rod everett jamerson is accused of attempting to give material support to a foreign terrorist organization and also distributing information related to destructive devices. court documents say jameson told an undercover agent who he believed was a member of isis that he knew how to make pipe bombs and he planned to set them off at pier 39 to get people to run to an area where he could shoot them. if convicted on both charges, jameson could get 20 years in prison. a man is in jail, accused of breaking into a home and rohnert park yesterday morning and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl as she was sleeping. investigators say 21-year-old noah holland took the garage door opener inside the family's unlocked car and opened the garage. authorities say he stripped off his clothing, climbed on top of the girl and made her screen. ran away but left behind some clothing and identification. deputies checked into a home in santa rosa. that's where he was arrested and booked on sexual assault and burglary charges. we are learning more about the 19-year-old fresno state university student who died while visiting a fraternity off campus. he's been identified as omar neiman of fresno. police say he died after spending time at the delta sigma phi fraternity house. he was found unconscious in the front yard. he was not a member of the fraternity. a fraternity spokesperson said the young and's death is not connected to any fraternity event and a friend says no one helped him. >> i'm saying call the police, what are you doing anything? get water something. >> police said namath was with his girlfriend and a 16-year- old brother that day. during that time investigators said they were smoking marijuana and taking xanax. xanax is typically used for anxiety. police say when they searched his car they allegedly found 583 then x bills. there will be an examiner reports the port of san francisco may use its own funding to revitalize the peer hoping to attract a new owner. pier 70 is where thousands of people once built ships during world war ii but temperatures are now dipping below zero. many people are growing concerned about their animals and are having to take special precautions to keep them safe. the national weather service warns and power crews are restoring electricity after the powerful blizzard system dumped as much as 18 inches of snow from the carolinas to maine on thursday. >> it's cold outside and everybody wants to many states including california is being linked to the lettuce. the cdc is investigating an outbreak that started in december. three people in california became sick and there were 17 cases around the country including one death. a similar outbreak in canada was traced to romaine lettuce. officials are trying to determine whether the two are related. since the cdc has not identified lettuce as the source of the outbreak in the u.s., they are not saying yet that you should avoid it, at least not now. new numbers show a spike in the number of flu cases in the south bay and flu deaths across the state. maureen naylor spoke with health officials about why this flu season is really bad. >> reporter: this 67 locksmith the technician could feel it coming on one week ago. >> when my fever went up to 103 i knew it was the flu. i had chills and was just -- felt dead. >> reporter: and it wasn't just him. his coworker, who also had the flu shot, got it as well. >> we both ended up having the flu the week before new year's. >> we are seeing an increase. >> reporter: doctor george hahn is the assistant health officer and said he seen a sharp increase in the flu cases since mid-to-late december and expects we are in the peak of the flu right now. >> flu season has come earlier this year and is more severe than normal. that is typical of each three years. >> reporter: according to newly released numbers, 17 people under the age of 64 have died from flu -related illnesses and california. santa clara county reports four flu -related deaths and 8 outbreaks. five of those in the last week or so. this restaurant manager says from work to church, he is taking precautions. >> shake your hand and say hi. just said no. we try not to get in contact with a lot of people. >> reporter: six-year-old emilio and his four-year-old sister have not had their flu shots yet. >> i have been having to take them to the doctor. the pediatrician recommended a. it's on my to do list. >> reporter: doctor hahn said the effectiveness of the vaccine will not be known until official estimates next month. >> it's always possible that if the vaccine is not as effective you will see more flu. like i said, we don't know at this point if that's the case. we still recommend getting the flu vaccine as the best way to protect yourself. >> reporter: due to the severity of the flu season, hospitals will be restricting visitors to the 16 and older. maureen naylor, ktvu fox 2 news. a comedy benefit show last night in sonoma county raised money for north bay fire survivors. the stand up sonoma show was held at the luther burbank center in santa rosa, put together by beer maker chaffetz -- jacob todd of russian river brewing and comedian chris porter. they set aside tickets to the show for fire victims and first responders hoping to give them a much needed laugh while also adding to the $700,000 raised by the king ridge foundation. >> we want to give the money directly to the terms, not to the landlords and not in the form of vouchers. for the most part these are cash grants between $500 and $1000. >> i can't say enough about the community and the people in this community that supported us and everyone else who has lost their home. >> king ridge was founded by cyclist levi lifetime or who lost his own home to the wildfire. the charity has helped more than 100 families of mendocino, lake, sonoma and marin county. across san pablo bay. south of that there's not much. the santa cruz mountains could pick up decent amounts but were not looking for anything many states including california is being linked to the lettuce. the cdc is investigating an outbreak that started in december. three people in california became sick and there were 17 cases around the country including one death. a similar outbreak in canada was traced to romaine lettuce. officials are trying to determine whether the two are related. since the cdc has not identified lettuce as the source of the outbreak in the u.s., they are not saying yet that you should avoid it, at least not now. new numbers show a spike in the number of flu cases in the south bay and flu deaths across the state. maureen naylor spoke with health officials about why this flu season is really bad. >> reporter: this 67 locksmith the technician could feel it coming on one week ago. >> when my fever went up to 103 i knew it was the flu. i had chills and was just -- felt dead. >> reporter: and it wasn't just him. his coworker, who also had the flu shot, got it as well. >> we both ended up having the flu the week before new year's. >> we are seeing an increase. >> reporter: doctor george hahn is the assistant health officer and said he seen a sharp increase in the flu cases since mid-to-late december and expects we are in the peak of the flu right now. >> flu season has come earlier this year and is more severe than normal. that is typical of each three years. >> reporter: according to newly released numbers, 17 people under the age of 64 have died from flu -related illnesses and california. santa clara county reports four flu -related deaths and 8 outbreaks. five of those in the last week or so. this restaurant manager says from work to church, he is taking precautions. >> shake your hand and say hi. just said no. we try not to get in contact with a lot of people. >> reporter: six-year-old emilio and his four-year-old sister have not had their flu shots yet. >> i have been having to take them to the doctor. the pediatrician recommended a. it's on my to do list. >> reporter: doctor hahn said the effectiveness of the vaccine will not be known until official estimates next month. >> it's always possible that if the vaccine is not as effective you will see more flu. like i said, we don't know at this point if that's the case. we still recommend getting the flu vaccine as the best way to protect yourself. >> reporter: due to the severity of the flu season, hospitals will be restricting visitors to the 16 and older. maureen naylor, ktvu fox 2 news. a comedy benefit show last night in sonoma county raised money for north bay fire survivors. the stand up sonoma show was held at the luther burbank center in santa rosa, put together by beer maker chaffetz -- jacob todd of russian river brewing and comedian chris porter. they set aside tickets to the show for fire victims and first responders hoping to give them a much needed laugh while also adding to the $700,000 raised by the king ridge foundation. >> we want to give the money directly to the terms, not to the landlords and not in the form of vouchers. for the most part these are cash grants between $500 and $1000. >> i can't say enough about the community and the people in this community
