gone on.>> reporter: early this morning we had quite a crowd. the line seems to be even longer. all the way around the corner. people coming here as soon as they get off of work to pay respects. this is to honor a man as we have heard over and over was the people's mayor. people about their heads and prayed as they walked by the coffin. the late mayor ed lee lying in the rotunda. a spot where he was sworn in seven years ago. a place where he at one time performed gait marriages. he will be remembered for his fight to help the homeless immigrants and those in need to met>> he was a great person. he did so much for the city and for everyone. even on other parts of the world.>> reporter: the significance is not lost on san franciscans >> this is the second time a mayor has died in office and laid in state mac the last mayor was george moscone he assassinated 39 years ago.>> i was in high school when his son was in class with me at the time. when the assault went down and city hall. i remember when dianne feinstein came forward and how strong she was after he passed. and how much a shock it was to the city. i had the same type of feeling when mayor lee died.>> reporter: the doors to city hall will be open until 7 pm. those hours could be extended if more people show up and wish to view the casket. sunday there will be a memorial service inside the rotunda at 3 pm. organizers advise you take mass transit to avoid the traffic. this is the memorial of flowers >> this has grown over the past few days. even the past hour lots of people coming out. a huge box laying at the foot aware that woman is standing with black ribbons around it. a lot of sentiment pouring out of san franciscans as they prepare to say goodbye to the late mayor. ed lee served as mayor for seven years >> he was in public service for most of his life. dozens of politicians joined in with the people of san francisco to pay respects. nancy pelosi has known him for decades. he thanked him -- she thanked him for his service.>> it is really heartbreaking. hard to even talk about his leaving us. without thinking of his beautiful smile. joe biden has a saying -- there will come a time when the mention of his name will bring a smile to our face instead of a tear to our eye. we anticipate that the mac for now it is important for us to remember what a blessing he was to our city. how grateful we are to mayor lee and his family for sharing him with us. he went on to speak about merely's efforts to bring affordable housing to those living on the street of san francisco. -- mayor sense of humor he had a unique way of connecting with the average person.>> he cared about his work so much. that is what brought all of us to work every day. he knew he was here for the right me as the camera is and as close to me as you are right now. i became very concerned. he was a big bull.>> reporter: he kept shouting no. the sea lion came at him.>> his head slid down my arm. fortunately he only got one tooth into my arm.>> reporter: afterwards he never saw the sea lion again. he was rescued by a sailboat. the bite ripped a hole in his skin exposing muscle. three specialists are not sure if the mammal was responsible for today's attack.>> it is hard to speculate why the interaction happened. anytime you're interacting with a wild animal there is a possibility ordered the u.s. embassy to move out of tel aviv to jerusalem. u.s. officials are hoping to open lines of communication and diplomacy now with north korea as the trump administration calls on russia to take a stronger stand. bryan llenas has more from the united nations. reporter: it's a day of diplomatics at the u.n. focused on the ongoing threat from north korea. secretary of state rex tillerson attending several meetings today saying north korea needs to earn its way back to the bargaining table. it's an attempt to clarify the administration's stance on talks with the north after announcing earlier this week the u.s. was willing to restart negotiations without pre-conditions. >> a sustained cessation of north korea's threatening behavior must occur before talks can begin. the pressure campaign must and will continue. >> reporter: the diplomatic push comes as officials warn the threat of war is growing and neither sanctions nor military threats have slowed down north korea's weapons development. the trump administration increasingly leaning on russian president vladimir putin to help rein in the north. >> we would love to have his help on north korea. china's helping. russia's not helping. we would like to have russia's help. >> reporter: russia says it's abiding by u.n. sanctions against north korea and wants to do more to help end the threat. but many diplomats say relations with washington are at an all-time low and it will be difficult to work together on a lasting solution. >> russia is open to constructive joint work with washington. unfortunately, we do not observe any progress on the part of the u.s. >> reporter: the u.n. says it wants to establish communications channels with the north hoping to reduce the risk of an accidental conflict which could escalate to war. brian llenas, fox news. mourners one after another walk by a closed casket draped in an american flag. taking a live look now inside the rotunda at san francisco city hall, some knew the man personally, some worked with him or for him. others never even met him but they are all there to honor the late mayor ed lee. good evening, everyone. i'm alyana gomez. >> and i'm ken wayne. frank and julie are off tonight. there was a line into the rotunda for much of the day. there was a steady stream of mourners all day. the mayor's body will lie in state for another two hours tonight. he arrived this morning around 7 a.m. for the last time to city hall. his casket was carried up the steps of city hall as san francisco police officers saluted. lee's body was then brought into the rotunda. >> we're all heartbroken. we loved him. we served him and we tried to put his vision for the city in place and we're going to keep doing that. >> many of his staff in tears stood together looking to each other for support. we have live team coverage as san francisco says good-bye to mayor ed lee. let's start with tara moriarty. she spoke with those who were there to honor the late mayor. reporter: a memorial of flowers has grown here in front of city hall. you can see behind me all of these people here taking photographs with flowers, pictures, candles, mementos. this has gotten larger over the past couple of hours. if we look around the corner, you can see this line has grown. it goes down to the corner. people are him everybody's mayor. reporter: a morning wreath. the motorcade made its way through the city traveling the streets he knew very well. he came outside city hall in the mayor's parking spot at the foot of the steps leading to the rotunda.>> beginning this morning and evening live pictures from inside city hall. dignitaries and members of the public are stopping by to pay tribute to the late mayor who died tuesday morning.>> a historical day is thousands lined up to see the late mayor lying in state at city hall. the public can view the american flag adorned casket in the rotunda until 7 pm.his got longer as the day has gone on.>> reporter: early this morning we had quite a crowd. the line seems to be even longer. all the way around the corner. people coming here as soon as they get off of work to pay respects. this is to honor a man as we have heard over and over was the people's mayor. people about their heads and prayed as they walked by the coffin. the late mayor ed lee lying in the rotunda. a spot where he was sworn in seven years ago. a place where he at one time performed gait marriages. he will be remembered for his fight to help the homeless immigrants and those in need to met>> he was a great person. he did so much for the city and for everyone. even on other parts of the world.>> reporter: the significance is not lost on san franciscans >> this is the second time a mayor has died in office and laid in state mac the last mayor was george moscone he assassinated 39 years ago.>> i was in high school when his son was in class with me at the time. when the assault went down and city hall. i remember when dianne feinstein came forward and how strong she was after he passed. and how much a shock it was to the city. i had the same type of feeling when mayor lee died.>> reporter: the doors to city hall will be open until 7 pm. those hours could be extended if more people show up and wish to view the casket. sunday there will be a memorial service inside the rotunda at 3 pm. organizers advise you take mass transit to avoid the traffic. this is the memorial of flowers >> this has grown over the past few days. even the past hour lots of people coming out. a huge box laying at the foot aware that woman is standing with black ribbons around it. a lot of sentiment pouring out of san franciscans as they prepare to say goodbye to the late mayor. ed lee served as mayor for seven years >> he was in public service for most of his life. dozens of politicians joined in with the people of san francisco to pay respects. nancy pelosi has known him for decades. he thanked him -- she thanked him for his service.>> it is really heartbreaking. hard to even talk about his leaving us. without thinking of his beautiful smile. joe biden has a saying -- there will come a time when the mention of his name will bring a smile to our face instead of a tear to our eye. we anticipate that the mac for now it is important for us to remember what a blessing he was to our city. how grateful we are to mayor lee and his family for sharing him with us. he went on to speak about merely's efforts to bring affordable housing to those living on the street of san francisco. -- mayor lee. willie brown who held the office from 1996 through 2004 paid a visit to city hall to say goodbye to a dear friend.>> he had basically diplomatic skills. unlike most ordinary politicians who fly off the handle. ed lee i don't think ever flew off the handle in the 40 years. not the eight years he worked directly with me. people said he worked for you. i worked with ed lee.>> some of those morning and feeling the loss are members of the mayor staff. distraught over a sudden death this week. the chief of staff said he dedicated his life to the people of san francisco. with his wonderful sense of humor he had a unique way of connecting with the average person.>> he cared about his work so much. that is what brought all of us to work every day. he knew he was here for the right often see swimmers. after two see lion attacks the national park service has banned swimming at least until monday. earlier we spoke with a man who was bitten in yesterday's attack. he is recovering swimming near aquatic heart thursday as he has been doing for two years when a quarter-mile offshore he came face-to-face with a sea lion.>> i turned around and saw a large male see lion. is close to me as the camera is and as close to me as you are right now. i became very concerned. he was a big bull.>> reporter: he kept shouting no. the sea lion came at him.>> his head slid down my arm. fortunately he only got one tooth into my arm.>> reporter: afterwards he never saw the sea lion again. he was rescued by a sailboat. the bite ripped a hole in his skin exposing muscle. three specialists are not sure if the mammal was responsible for today's attack.>> it is hard to speculate why the interaction happened. anytime you're interacting with a wild animal there is a possibility of getting bit.>> reporter: we are back live in you can see there is a swimmer ignoring the swimming band. there are signs posted along the beach >> he said he will still be going back into the water again. in 1 to 3 mom >> this isn't going to stop him. he said next time he will start swimming in shallow water.>> talking with some of the swimmers yesterday about yesterday's attack they did not zachary quinn and johnny brown broke into her home. they robbed her and beat her in september of last year. willie king was previously charged with being an accessory. prosecutors say they believe all three were involved in a conspiracy that led to the death of ms. float. they went to the grand jury to get the case to trial sooner.>> ms. flow was a vital member of this community. her loss has been with north korea. i will have more next. backlash continues in the west bank following president trump's decision to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel. dozens of palestinians scuffled with israeli security forces after their friday prayers in protest to the u.s. decision. there was a rally marking the 30th anniversary of the founding. an effigy was burned of president trump. president trump's announcement last week triggered demonstrations as it reversed decades of u.s. policy-making america the only country in the world to recognize jerusalem as israel's capital. mr. trump also ordered the u.s. embassy to move out of tel aviv to jerusalem. u.s. officials are hoping to open lines of communication and diplomacy now with north korea as the trump administration calls on russia to take a stronger stand. bryan llenas has more from the united nations. reporter: it's a day of diplomatics at the u.n. focused on the ongoing threat from north korea. secretary of state rex tillerson attending several meetings today saying north korea needs to earn its way back to the bargaining table. it's an attempt to clarify the administration's stance on talks with the north after announcing earlier this week the u.s. was willing to restart negotiations without pre-conditions. >> a sustained cessation of north korea's threatening behavior must occur before talks can begin. the pressure campaign must and will continue. >> reporter: the diplomatic push comes as officials warn the threat of war is growing and neither sanctions nor military threats have slowed down north korea's weapons development. the trump administration increasingly leaning on russian president vladimir putin to help rein in the north. >> we would love to have his help on north korea. china's helping. russia's not helping. we would like to have russia's help. >> reporter: russia says it's abiding by u.n. sanctions against north korea and wants to do more to help end the threat. but many diplomats say relations with washington are at an all-time low and it will be difficult to work together on a lasting solution. >> russia is open to constructive joint work with washington. unfortunately, we do not observe any progress on the part of the u.s. >> reporter: the u.n. says it wants to establish communications channels with the north hoping to reduce the risk of an accidental conflict which could escalate to war. brian llenas, fox news. mourners one after another walk by a closed casket draped in an american flag. taking a live look now inside the rotunda at san francisco city hall, some knew the man personally, some worked with him or for him. others never even met him but they are all there to honor the late mayor ed lee. good evening, everyone. i'm alyana gomez. >> and i'm ken wayne. frank and julie are off tonight. there was a line into the rotunda for much of the day. there was a steady stream of mourners all day. the mayor's body will lie in state for another two hours tonight. he arrived this morning around 7 a.m. for the last time to city hall. his casket was carried up the steps of city hall as san francisco police officers saluted. lee's body was then brought into the rotunda. >> we're all heartbroken. we loved him. we served him and we tried to put his vision for the city in place and we're going to keep doing that. >> many of his staff in tears
