Theres heavy traffic getting into richmond on westbound 80 and thats because of a crash that the chp is trying to clear out of the way. And this is at central avenue. A crash that apparently involves some injuries and its causing slow traffic to the san pablo area. And looks as though they had to close the lanes in the westbound direction for a time. And they are back open first floor. But you may have residual slowing through richmond and san pablo this morning. Ill show you a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza which is busy. About a 10 to 15 minute backup. And i should remind people once you get in San Francisco. There are two crashes still being worked on on westbound 80 in the city. One at 5th street. And one at fremont. And finally, a live look at 280 in san jose and traffic is moving nicely on this friday morning. 6 03 is the time. Pam, back over to you. Thank you, alex. There are six major wildfires burning in Southern California. Take a look at the map there. The two newest fires, the lilac fire there in northern San Diego County, thats near fallbrook in San Diego County. And then the liberty fire is near temecula, big wine country area. The largest is the thomas fire in Ventura County. Its been burned 115,000 acres since monday and its 5 contained. The fire destroyed 400 homes, 50,000 people very ordered to evacuate. And more than 15,000 homes are still in danger there. Crews are trying to keep the fire from spreading into santa barbara. The rye fire, santa clarita, is 25 contained. It may not be fully contained until thursday. The creek fire in the northern San Fernando Valley has burned 15,000 acres. The update there, its 20 contained. Five homes were destroyed and 2500 are still threatened. The fire crews have made progress battling the skirball fire near ucla. Classes at ucla will resume today. And the nearby getty center which has been closed is going to reopen today. One of the new fires is that lilac fire in northern San Diego County. And it destroyed 20 homes in a mobile home Retirement Community. It started in the city of fallbrook. Two people were sent to the hospital with burns. The fire burned 4000 acres, and its 0 contained. Several schools have canceled classes today because of the fire. And we heard that its moving west towards oceanside and camp pendleton. At least 25 racehorses died yesterday when flames from the lilac fire swept through a training facility. Some of the horses are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. They were set free and encouraged to run away as the flames engulfed the training center. Many of the horses are being boarded at the del mar racetrack. The cities of at the that fire has burned 300 acres. And because of all the fires, the air quality is not good. Today is the first spare the air day of the winter season. The spare is air alert starts today. And continues through sunday. You cannot burn wood fires indoors or outdoors through midnight sunday. The air quality is expected to be pretty bad because of the weather conditions trapping the pollution close to the ground. San Francisco Police body camera video has been released but last weeks deadly officer involved shooting. The suspect was unarmed when the officer opened fire. Ktvus Christien Kafton has more on what the video shows. Reporter san Francisco Police releasing the video just last night. And it shows the critical few seconds that led up to the officer involved shooting. At this point, san Francisco Police are not releasing the name of the officer who fired the shot. The round struck and killed 42 yearold kyita oneil after he got out of a van she was suspected of carjacking. Officers chased the van and the video from the body camera shows him firing a round from inside the patrol car, shattering the window of the patrol car. Oneil was unarmed when the officer opened fire. The officer was a rookie and had been on the force less than a week. And was with a Field Training officer at the time of the shooting. We are hoping to learn more about the video and hoping to talk more with san Francisco Police about the video. And trying to get more context to the video. We hope to find out more about the Community Meeting where some Community Members expressed outrage about this latest shooting. There are details still to come. Its 6 07 and the man who escaped the san leandro Psychiatric Hospital is now in police custody. This after a carjacking, a car crash, and a chase across the freeway. The man escaped from john george Psychiatric Hospital. And he jumped into a car in a nearly parking lot with a teenager in the passenger seat. He hit the teenager and took off in the car and crashed into a garbage truck. And then he tried to steal another car, biting the elderly man who was in the car. And when he couldnt get the keys he ran away. Deputies saw him. And he was hit by a car on the highway and made it across to hide in the bushes youre looking at. Thats where he was eventually arrested. The man is facing several charges, including assault and resisting arrest. Theres a mystery this morning after a womans body was found floating in the water. Coming up, what police have to say about the Death Investigation alongside a popular trail. The Oakland Unified School district is close to cutting 9 million from the budget. Welcome back to mornings on 2. Its 6 11. A 125,000 arrest warrant was issued for a former care worker accused of sexually assaulting a disabled man in the east bay. Police are searching for charles ward who used to work at an assisted Living Center in san leandro called novelles developmental services. He sexually assaulted a male patient back in march. The patient has Cerebral Palsy and can only communicate by nodding his head. He was in the care of ward at the time. Thats horrible. There are quite a few neighbors right here at this intersection that have children. So its a concern. Reporter investigators say that ward quit his job as officers were going to question him. He has apparently been on the run ever since. Weve been told he has an address of placerville but where he is not known. The time is 6 one. A small town in new mexico held a vigil for the two students who died in a high school shooting. It happened in the town of aztec. The shooter whose name has not been released also died. We dont know the motive. And police have not released details about the death of the gunman. The governor of new mexico says several acts of bravery helped to save the lives of other students and teachers. An Investigation Continues in sunnyvale where the body of a woman was found in the water near bay lands park. A cyclist found the body. There are a lot of unanswered questions. Were trying to figure out what occurred and thats what were going to try to determine. Reporter a bicyclist made the grim discovery shortly after 10 00 thursday morning. He called 911, reporting a dead body floating face down in the drainage canal near the bay trail in sunnyvale. This is a beautiful trail. I take it five days a week. Lots of people take it every day. And its very sad to learn that happened, whatever it is. Reporter dive Team Officers assisted in removing the body from the water. The victim was a woman and the neighborhood but its unclear if she was dumped into the bay here or if her body floated from a different location. The medical examiner and us and our detectives are working the investigation. We dont know the circumstances of why the body was in the water. Reporter the bay trail area is a 500mile loop around San Francisco bay. Tourists consistently give it a rating of good. Detectives say thursdays discovery does not pose a risk to the general public and some bicyclists wont change their routine. I dont feel unsafe here. Reporter with few clues and no signs of trauma, the first step to figuring out what happened is to determine the victims identity and how she died. Right now its a mystery why a body was found floating out here. We dont know that right now. Reporter ktvu fox 2 news. The federal government will not be shut down this weekend. Congress passed a two week funding bill, an extension to keep the government going. And this will buy time to negotiate Childrens Health programs and aid for puerto rico. The plan to cut 9 million from the Oakland Unified School district budget was laid out at a special school board meeting. The School Superintendent says the district has already put a ceiling on hiring, overtime, and spending, and he says layoffs and program cuts are expected. The cuts are needed to avoid a takeover by the state after years of changing leadership and financial problems. Nobody wants to cut programs for kids. Nobody wants to cut people who help kids, but we are in a situation where we have budget realities we have to deal with. There already is no art at the school. We just lost a p. E. Teacher. We are about to lose another p. E. Teacher. And theres no Extracurricular Activities at the school. Reporter next wednesday the school board will vote on the budget. The time is 6 16. That should be a problem free ride. Getting out of walnut creek, the traffic is beginning to build. A lot more people are getting on the roadways in the 6 00 hour. And i should let people know that further up the road, theres a crash that the chp is working on just west of the caldicott tunnel. This is an accident that happened inside the third bore in the westbound direction. But it has been cleared to the righthand shoulder and it could cause a little bit of slowing as folks pass through the area. Finally, here, we put the maps up and give you an idea of what the backup is like at the toll plaza. The backup extends back through the maze and on the east shore freeway.
