S. From the paris climate agreement. 100 countries signed up for that agreement. What were doing is relatively limited to the threat that we face. So, yes, we need to do more. Weve got to get off oil and gas. Weve got to get off coal first and we need a strategy that integrates all sectors to get it done and unfortunately in politics there is no magic wand. I dont wake up and say, stop, theres no more coal and oil. Otherwise all you get is noise. And that is really goes noise. The goal of americas pledge group is to do what they can to reduce emissions without help from the white house. Ill have a look what you can expect for your weekend and the next chance of rain coming up. 7 13. Happening today, thousands of science lovers will be at the San Francisco at t park for the seventh annual discovery day. There will be more than a hundred exhibits, games, experiments, related to science all for free and the biggest kid of them all, christian front and center with some of the activities this morning. Dr. Science, good morning. Reporter dr. Science, i have my ph. D in science. Just go to general science. Reporter as did you, doctor. We are here at the bay area science festival. A wonderful opportunity for kids and the community to really come out and get their hands on science. Cody joining us from mine trekkers, michigan tech, welcome to at t park and were going to do some fun stuff with liquid nitrogen. Its going to be great. Youll have a good time. Reporter lets talk first about what some of the properties are of liquid nitrogen. It is very cold and can do interesting stuff to everyday materials. Liquid nitrogen is 121 degrees negative farenheit. Weve got a flower that were basicallysubmerse ing submersing. Can i hold on to it now . Basically sub mersing. Submersing. Super cool. I was very concerned about getting hurt with this. We skipped this to our second experiments which is gram crackers, as well. This is our dragons breath. Weve got graham crackers basically submerged in liquid nitrogen. Next just take one off. Right. You tried to tempt me with these. Thats good. I love graham crackers but im not putting it in my mouth. And the last one, were making ice cream, so in here right now we have all the ingredients for ice cream, just not frozen yet. We are making ice cream in less than 60 seconds. We have a little bit of chocolate syrup, last piece is the liquid nitrogen. And of course liquid nitrogen boils off and turns into this team that were seeing, which is just nitrogen, which is 70 of the atmosphere. It wont cause any harm and you can get them molted, right . Give it a malted. Now give it a taste. You dont have to worry about getting your tongue burned. And one more . Last one. This is our home gnomes. Weve got a polymer a and b and we power them into. Theyve already been poured into the top. Eventually as theyre mixed, were going to pull it out. Is it just going to puff up . Yep. Okay. It will get nice and pumped up. Keep stirring. There we go. Reporter so this is how science works. Its not always predictable. Starting to go. Starting to go. This ones a big hit. Its going to come out just like home insurancelation and everyone can i nsulation. Were here as part of the boesch experience. You know this park is packed with families who want to try this stuff, and this is one of the great things to have hands on science. This has been a blast. Well have a lot more experience for you this morning. Now look, its still going. Your doctoring has been revoked. Im not going to eat the graham cracker. Its not going to poison me, is it . I did call him a wimp. Thats cool. Reporter and we did one more science experiment i was saying what happens if you drop an ice cube in the liquid nice jen and 99 kind of knew so we did our scientist make experiments and drop the ice cube in there and boils the liquid nitrogen on. Science for life. Now your doctorate is back. Take a bow. And take a graham cracker. All right. On your screen there weve got the information if youre thinking i want to head down there. 10 00 a. M. To 4 00 p. M. Today, it is free to get in at tat park. You may need a jacket if youre heading there this morning. Lets check in with rosemary. Lowtomid60s, in the shade its going to be a cool one. Outside our doors, a bit of a chilly start. Were cooler than we were yesterday, a little bit of fog giving you a look at the approach to the bay bridge. Traffic slowing down and being held up perhaps due to that implosion that we are waiting on. Well keep track of that, but if you are thinking ahead of the city its not going to be an easy cross. You can expect some delays, at least for the time being. Heres whats going on from up above where we have mostly cloudy skies, our fog and valley locations reported at concord, a mile over areas of napa, santa rosa looking good at eight mile, but it could fluctuate over the next hour or so. Partly cloudy skies for afternoon. Maybe a little bit of drizzle out there. By the afternoon well turn partly cloudy and for the second half of the day clearing out just a little bit more with temperature ranging in the 60s. Sunday, more of the same, partly cloudy skies expected, but by sunday night, that scattered shower activity beginning to approach the north edge over lake county, as well. Your weekend is dry, but by sunday night we could see a few changes come our way and that could open the door to a few scattered showers as we get going on monday morning. 53 degrees in San Francisco, low 50s through the east bay shore. Mid40s to low 50s for the inland cities. 46 in livermore, south bay, 54, san jose. And upper 40s, lafayette, alamo, black hawk, 50 degrees to start your day in antioch. Low 60s, john ra fellphel. And south bay location r rafael. The extended forecast increasing clouds tomorrow night, perhaps waking up with scattered showers on monday, dry on tuesday, but the next chance of rain moving in wednesday. Lets take you back outside to the shot of the implosion of one of the peers on the bay bridge. Just have a couple left theyve already demolished the building. They are going to be imploding that in front of you in minutes. If youre hoping to get across youre going to have a bit of a day. A couple of these will be knocked down and look like its progress in a matter of minutes that should be gone. You can hear the sound from there. This is one of those things where youre keeping an eye on it and it could happen at any moment. We are also keeping an eye on the bay bridge until 5 00 p. M. And it stopped. Lets go back to that picture because they dont stop it very long before they implode it, so maybe we should just sit on this a second longer. Good tv. When all of those cars are stopped. On a veterans day, theyve been doing this every other week for the last couple months now. Here, after peer, and these are the final two. They call it rolling stops because they happen very it happens really quickly. Its literally seconds. Is alex trebeck in the house . We can see some of the foaming around the actual peer itself. Thats little bit different from watching earlier. They dont like the keep the traffic stopped for very long. Its not something that the driverings like. You cant really see it if youre on the bridge size. Its always precaution. This is in a little bit more sale lower water so its going to be closer to show in terms of the water thats going to blow up after it because its probably ten, 15 feet deep there. They were reading my mind. Youve got a spider hanging out as we take a look. Sometimes when this has happened in the past, theyve changed the kind of timing of when theyre going to do it. And you would know that because they let the traffic go. As long as that traffic is stopped on the west end of the bay bridge, youll get a good indication this thing is imminent, so were hanging out here, waiting to bring it to you live because it is pretty impressive to see and this is your best angel. Theyve been good about having the media and the pictures as its happening so we know when its going on. All of those folks, its a saturday morning, and 7 24, we usually do not have that many cars. Theyre not too pleased. We usually dont use a picture. Thats a pretty good back up. As we wait for the implosions. And the first two they did around 10 00, 11 00. We get a little bit further away shot. It just takes a matter of seconds and that will be there. Theres two of them. One in the foreground and one in the background. This is it. When theyre done here, and weve been seeing this here, you almost forget those are remaining when you have pieces of metal and structure of the old bay bridge. It went all the way over to Treasure Island, and piece by piece by piece, its taken nearly three years now since the new bridge has opened to get the old bridge down and you certainly cant seeing any from the span itself anymore, but these two last remaining tierce, and theyre keeping up, the higher piers, theyre going to have a walking peer out from the oakland side, but thats these peers that youre looking at of e17 and e18. They were 13 marine foundations on the span of the bridge, these are 1936 concrete structures so its taken six weekends to get all of these done and again this is the final weekend. You talk about a timeline. Were a year ahead of schedule, so what does that mean in terms of dollar that means 10 million is a good thing, getting it done early. We know theres a lot of environmental work to make sure they do not have an impact on or at least minimal impact on the sea life and marine life around there. They had the birds that were nesting on the bridge itself . They had to work out a plan to get him off into another area because they would nest on the old bridge so they had to be very delicate and find another environment for those birds to nest and for the marine life, as well, and some of the seals and whatnot that are in there. They do it at such a time that they dont affect them, as well. Theyre not on time. Those people do not like to be on the bridge for very long. That is an indicator to see how close we are. Theyve been stopped now for several minutes and these are rolling closures that are going to happen n
