Yesterday. Upper 80s inland. A few still near 90 degrees. San jose, 89. After yesterdays 94. That was a record. Redwood city, 98 down to 88. Napa down five 93 to 88 degrees. Were slowly cooling off. 58 Half Moon Bay compared to 80 at this time yesterday. Berkeley is down considerably. Other locations are down one to ten. There is an easterly or northeasterly breeze. East at Half Moon Bay. Northeast at sfo. East at oakland. Even though it is less than 5 Miles Per Hour, it is still there. On the peninsula, low 50s. Half moon bay, monetra and moss beach are upper 50s to low 60s. We have High Pressure losing its grip slightly. But it will give us warm temps into friday and cooling over the weekend. Temperatures should be 68 to 74. They are way above that for everybody. 70s and 80sand near 90s degrees. Sal, anything new on the screens. Just a lot of slow traffic, steve. Okay. This is the heart of the commute. I would say between 6 00 and 8 00 or so. Not that the other parts arent bad or arent slow. But this is really the slowest part. On the Golden Gate Bridge, it is a beautiful shot we have of the Golden Gate Bridge. And the traffic looks good from the Robin Williams tunnel down to the toll plaza in San Francisco as you drive into the marina district. Also looking at the bay bridge. And traffic will be okay. But at the toll plaza, theres a wait of about 20 minutes. If youre driving through. Now, the traffic on the east shore freeway is going to be taking about 45 minutes to drive from the carquinez bridge down to this point. Were also looking at interstate 880 north and southbound. You can see northbound traffic here in front of oracle looks good. Southbound slows at 238. Really a lot of it is under the speed limit or less than 25 Miles Per Hour in many areas all the way down to fremont. At 7 02, back to the desk. Be ready for another unseasonably warm day around the bay area. We had record breaking temperatures yesterday. As steve told you, it will be hotter than normal all week. Alex savidge is in San Francisco. Talk about how people there are handling the heat. Reporter well, you know, it gets warm in october. We know that here in the bay area. But never usually gets this hot, this late in the month. We are out here at crissy field in San Francisco. Pretty nice morning. People walking or jogging. And it is not too warm just yet. But of course the sun is rising. So its going to start warming up in a hurry here. The bay area headed into day two of a late season heat wave. A lot of records shattered yesterday. All across the region. In oakland, Mountain View, and san jose. Just to name a few. Also it was 91 degrees in at sfo. That was the temperature at sfo yesterday. Across the board, temperatures anywhere between 10 and 20 degrees above normal for this time of year. Of course the real concern is these hot, dry conditions are leading to increased fire danger, especially worrisome for people up in the north bay. Even with all of the rain we got last week, a decent amount of rain, the threat of wildfires remains. With the couple days of heat that weve had and the wind, you know, its its gone now. Its not doing us any good. Our concern is this is our dryest time of the year. The fuels are dried out. Theyre ready to burn. Reporter now, the real good news in all of this is especially compared to what we saw yesterday morning, it was it was very breezy yesterday morning. The winds this morning are very calm. No red flag warnings in place. But still firefighters on alert nonetheless because you do have dry conditions and you have very warm conditions. And so that obviously makes it easier for a fire to take off. If a fire were to start. Bringing you back out here to the live picture here. Nice shot of the Golden Gate Bridge as the sun begins to come up here. Its going to be slightly cooler today, as steve told you, compared to yesterday. But it will be warm all week long. And then finally we get the cooldown coming up this weekend. Relief in sight. Yes. Alex, thank you. Thank you, alex. The time is 7 05. Today is day three of the San Francisco trial of jose ynez Garcia Zarate, the undocumented immigrant charged with shooting and killing kate steinle at a San Francisco pier. They heard from witnesses yesterday who were on pier 14 at the scene. Jose ynez Garcia Zarate has admitted that he was handling the gun that was used in the shooting but his attorneys argued that the gun accidentally went off. It was reported stolen from a ranger the week before. Steinles family has been in the courtroom all week. Her mother went yesterday when prosecutors showed the jury a photograph of her daughter on the pier taken moments before she was shot. It showed steinle in the foreground and you could see jose ynez Garcia Zarate in the background sitting in a chair on the embarcadero. So its effective. I mean, it is really effective. I doubt that the d. A. Showed the parents that photograph and let them to react in the courtroom to it. Jurors watch that. Thats the emotional part of a trial. I mean, that cuts right to your heart. When you see that, it really brings home, theres a beautiful young woman whose life was taken because of this man. Reporter now, yesterday, two witnesses testified that through their hotel window, they saw jose ynez Garcia Zarate leave the pier after a single gunshot rang out. Another witness says before the shooting he was sitting at the pier and people laughing and he thought that was odd. An analyst described what they described as odd behavior from zarate in court. He was staring at people and grinning repeatedly at inappropriate times. Reporters later asked his attorney about his clients mental stability. His Attorney Says they dont plan to make any sort of argument that jose ynez Garcia Zarate is mentally incompetent to stand trial. They say that is not at play at this point in the trial. Thank you, heather. He will join us live on the 9 this morning. The time is 7 16. We had an active traffic report, starting from the wee hours of the morning, sal. Yeah. We had the tree fire that everyone in our news room smelled. Not far from where we are. We also had other things. Lets look at some of the commutes. I want to mention if you are going to the bay bridge, traffic will be moderate on the span. There will be slowing at the toll plaza, which is, you know, not unusual. This is about a 20minute delay. We have a lot of the usual suspects when it comes to slow traffic. This morning we mentioned the san mateo bridge has become a lot slower in the last half hour. Southbound 880 and a lot of people do this, go all the way across. And most of that is slow. Likewise for the dumbarton bridge getting over to the peninsula. 580 is still slow on the altamont pass. But it has cleared up through livermore and dublin. But slow on 680 as you head south. Again, all very typical. Lets dive into the south bay, shall we . 85 is slow from 101. Check this out. All the way up. This didnt used to be this way. It is becoming normal for 85 to be one of the busiest freeways. I think people have grown tired of 101. It is still slow. But 85 is now becoming a second 101, if you will. 7 17. Lets bring steve in. Eve in. Probably heading over to Mountain View, if you know what i mean. Cupertino. Cupertino, Mountain View. Exactly. Today might be a record day for a few, but not as many as yesterday. It will be close for Mountain View, speaking of, and san jose. Temperatures will be warm, but not as warm as yesterday. We maxed out yesterday on the temps. Way above average here. These are the records to beat, if you will. The forecast highs are in the red there. Oakland airport forecast high is 86. Sfo, 85. Those would fall short. Mountain view, 89. The record is 90 from 2003. Very close. I dont think the northerly breeze will kick in. San francisco, missed by one yesterday. The high was 89. The record was 90. The record between now and friday were all set in 2003. High today, 84 degrees. Much above average but not in recordsetting territory. 50s on the temps. 57 now Half Moon Bay. Thats Half Moon Bay. Versus 80 at this time yesterday. Same for the observation in berkeley, which is also 78, 79 at this time yesterday. Some are down 20 degrees. Even though there is a easterly or northeasterly component coming in off of the hills. This observation in oakland is up about a thousand feet. You get closer to town and you can find 60s there. Still warm in the city. Now at 65 degrees. A lot of mid60s in San Francisco. And there is still a slight easterly breeze. 61, san rafael. 50 in petaluma. Bodega bay, 53. That is down 17 from yesterday at this time. Windsor in there as well. But temperatures today will rebound. High pressure not going anywhere. It is slowly starting to back off a little bit here. 27 up in truckee. And 50s throughout much of the val i42 heavenly. 45 incline. And tahoe city at 41 degrees. South lake tahoe at 29. Deep system out over the hawaiian islands. That low has tapped into moisture coming up from the south and giving them heavy rain. Coming up from florida, going straight into new york and much of the northeast. So somewhere we have to find High Pressure. Guess what, it is right over the west. It took the storm track and sent it well to the north. Inching back into the Pacific Northwest which will lead to a breaking down of the ridge. It will take until the weekend before it lets go. Cooler coast and bay even though temps above average here. Daytime highs, 70s, 80s, and a few 90s holding on for a day. If the change doesnt start tomorrow it will kick in friday for sure. Temperatures should be 68 to 74 average this time of year. Everybody is way above on that. We will continue to do so until probably sunday, gasia. Steve, thank you. 7 21 now.
