Police in san leandro have arrested a 57yearold shoplifting suspect for allegedly using his car to injure two officers. The officers were trying to arrest the man outside the safeway on luellen boulevard. The suspect said he jumped into his car and drove off. Detectives say they later spotted his car. He led them on a short case before crashing. They identified the suspect as kerry gordon. He now faces charges of evading police and attempted murder. Both officers are expected to make a full recovery. You never want to get that phone call overnight that two of your officers are injured. He has a wife, he has kids. I know he dont want to die in anything like that. He has a family who he supports and loves. Reporter police say dominguez has an extensive criminal history and bragged of wanting to shoot it out with police if caught. The fatal officer involved shooting happened friday evening around 7 00 during a vehicle stop. And ended with a tragic outcome quite frankly that none of us wish had occurred. At a News Conference, eddy garcia mapped out the trail of a crime spree that spread over 10 days. Allegedly committed by dominguez and two accomplices. It started with the theft of a White Mercedes 3100. On sunday three carried out a drive by shooting. Gang unit investigators say the crime is connected to gang activity. An investigation is under way into the theft of a department issued gun belonging to a San Francisco sheriff deputy. The weapon was stolen yesterday while that deputy was off duty. The sheriff says the gun was stolen from the trunk of a rental car parked in San Francisco. But she did not say where in the city. The sheriff also said it appears the gun had not been properly stored in a lock box as required. The deputies gun has not yet been recovered. New information on the controversial free speech week being planned for uc berkeley next week. Today the University Said it is working to accommodate the event. This as hundreds of University Employees are asking the school to boycott it. The event is scheduled to start in five days. This sunday. Again so many faculty here at berkeley want to shut down their classes, want to stop the ability of some many students to learn. Just to make a political statement. To accomplish this the letter suggests the classes be cancelled and that students stay home. That buildings be closed and that the staff stay home.
