When he gets to 27 and mlk, he turns around and takes a few steps toward the officer and you see him lying on the sidewalk. Its visible that wilkes had a gun in his left hand. For some reason he was running away from officers, stops turns around takes a step towards the officer and thats when the gun is visible and officers opened fire. They wanted to clear up the information that he was shot from behind or shot in the head. And wilkes has accepted an invitation to watch the video themselves before it was shown to us today. They would not comment what happened in that meeting, they want people to know theyll be releasing this video again at the end of their investigation. The public has a right to know what occurred. So, we want to respect that, but at the same time we want to respect the integrity of our investigation. Its a balancing act, were trying to walk that be fine line and as time goes on it will get smoother. I think that weighing interests, were trying to do the right thing here. We want to say that we did see a second incident that was separate that happened a month ago where a man named Richard Linyard died. He was found wedged between two walls in the fruit ville area of oakland. In that case they wanted to clean up the confusion that he was choked and beat to death. On interstate 80, theyre back open after a Good Samaritan was hit and killed while helping a stranded driver. An offduty Police Officer was who hit him on his way home. He tried to get the unconscious man out of the car, but the Police Officer couldnt get the man out and he died at the scene. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Police official also investigate whether Police Department policies were violated. He had an outstanding ward for assault. There were a pair of officer involved shooting this week. This video shows 29yearold, and 40yearold richard and a third unknown man on the avenue last week. That female end upped in his car the day we located him during the surveillance. Police are hoping this surveillance is video will help catch the suspect. The man is considered armed and dangerous and you see him here wearing black. Theyre still at the scene of a grass fire that is burning since last night. Its above the evergreen neighborhood. At last check, the fire was 75 contained. Cal fire says it started just before 10 last night. And its being fueled by dry vegetation in the area.
