A Homicide Investigation is underway in hayward. Allie rasmus is live at the scene with what you have learned. Reporter Hayward Police just released this information. Heres what they told us about what happened here morningside was the scene of this overnight Homicide Investigation. Around 1 00 this morning, a man and a woman were walking in this area. This is the intersection were talking about. At some point, a group of other men confronted them, approached them, there was some sort of words exchanged or confrontation. One of the men shot the man who had been walking here with the woman. That man died from his injuries here at the scene. We dont know anything more about the identity of the victim. What key can tell you we can tell you is that Hayward Police closed off streets and started to investigate. Crime scene investigators were here at the scene. The area around morningside and arf was closed off. This is near mount eden high school. We spoke to several neighbors who had to be let out of the crimescene protected area one by one. Many said they heard the gunshots. They were loud enough to wake them up around 1 00 this morning. I was walking out by the woken up by the gunshots. Reporter you did hear them . Yes. Reporter how many . About five. Reporter how close to your house . I think it was like outside in the street. We thought this was a safe neighborhood. I guess its not a safe neighborhood. Reporter a lot of neighbors sort of echoed the same thing, that this is not an area that they would expect to hear gunshots but they would expect to that they would expect to see or hear Something Like this happen. Hayward police are not saying anything more about the victim. They said the group of men who are suspected of shoosting the young man shooting the young man took off in some sort of silver suv but police have not made any arrests or put out information about a specific type of vehicle or license plate they are looking for. I think they are trying to gather more information on this investigation. Investigators left the scene here a short time ago and im sure they are continuing to work it over at the department. Gasia . Allie rasmus, thank you. San Francisco Police are investigating a shooting that killed a 19yearold woman and injured two others. This happened saturday night about 11 00 on buchanan street in the western ed addition neighbor Western Addition neighborhood. Police dont the girl was the target of the shooting. One the people injured, was a 16yearold girl. So far no arrests have been made. Here is the latest on the big rocky fire cooler temperatures and higher humidity, which steve has been telling you about, its helping the firefighters battle those huge flames in lake county. The rocky fire has grown to 65,000 acres. Its only 12 contained. 24 homes have burned. More than 6300 more are threatened. Yesterday firefighters focused on spot fires that jumped highway 20. In sunnyvale, a split second decision by two sheriffs deputies probably saved a mans life. He was dramatically rescued on the caltrain tracks. It was caught on video and you have to see it. Reporter yeah, dave, just imagine seeing a car with a person inside stopped on the tracks and then you look up and you see a train coming. Well, that was the situation out here at the mary avenue crossing near evelyn. A witness caught it on video. You see the train crashing into the vehicle and a San Mateo County sheriffs deputy pull the driver to safety with seconds to spare. It all happened at 6 30 last night. Two deputies were on patrol responding to a call nearby when they stumbled upon a car that had crashed into the crossing gate. A sheriffs spokesman tells us that the air bag had already been deployed and a man inside had already been impaired. One deputy ran down the tracks to slow down the train while the other helped the man. Saw the train down there and i knew i had to at least a short time to deal with the driver in the car. At that point, had to tray to stop the train. Thes are highly trained skilled Law Enforcement personnel who have specialized training that not only allow them to safely remove potential accident victims from our tracks but in the last year, they also removed more than 40 people who were expressing suicidal thoughts from our tracks preventing further tragedy. Reporter i believe we have a picture that caltrain tweeted of deputies rupel and witten. They are being called heroes for their actions. This crash is under investigation. The Sheriffs Department says it appears the driver was under the influence. But thats not confirmed. He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. This accident did cause some delays but both tracks reopened for service just before 8 00 last night. Crews were out earlier this morning repairing the damaged crossing gate but they finished about a halfhour ago. The northbound lane of mary avenue is back open to vehicle traffic out here. Investigators say 21yearold westbrook was in her car on benicia road just outside of the vallejo city limits. Someone shots. Show was hit a. Youngly day was sitting in her car and a young man shot her to death at point blank range. Did he walk up to her . He was there standing next to the car and he killed her and then he walked to his car and drove away. Her family told us miss westbrook was on her way to work at Richmond Kaiser where her mother works. Investigators say that gunman drove away in a blue or silver sedan. If you have any information, call the Solano CountySheriffs Office. 7 10. Right now, theres not enough money to properly take care of San Francisco parks. The chronicle reports that spending on Park Maintenance has dropped from over 2 of the citys budget to 1. 2 . The property tax funds passed 15 years ago to supplement the budget has not kept pace. They say the rec and Park Department has a backlog of more than 5,000 maintenance requests. The first day of San Francisco in two two weeks away but the district is scrambling to find another teachers. San francisco unified is looking to fill more than 50 teaching jobs. The Teachers Union says its becoming more and more difficult to attract new teachers and keep the existing ones because of the pay and the cost of living in the city. The average salary for a teacher is less than 70,000 a year. Among younger teachers, its their number one concern. They say i i hear it all of the time. I wont be able to stay on the district if i cant find a place to live. The School District says another problem is Newer College students are pursuing teaching careers. A man accused of shooting and killing a Police Officer in tennessee has turned himself in. There had been an intense manhunt for 29yearold tremaine wilbourn. Hes accused of shooting officer sean bolton in memphis saturday night during a traffic stop. Police say officer bolton interrupted a drug deal. Two days, police were searching for him. We were always one step behind him or one step ahead of him. I. I think he felt the walls closing in on him and thought it best to turn himself on. Tremaine wilbourn was on probation for a bank robbery. Hes expected to make a Court Appearance today to be charged with firstdegree murder. There will be a vigil for scott lunger. He was the officer shot and killed two weeks ago. The organization Fallen Heroes are putting together a fund raiser at famous daves barbecue restaurant. Restaurant is donating 35 of all treeds for a trust fund to a trust fund for the lunger family. The city will make sure light posts are safe after one came crashing down on a car. We shared the pictures with you yesterday. The Officials Say rust at the base caused it to collapse. City leaders say dogs using the light pole to relieve themselves likely contributed to that. It will move to the north of the islands and weaken. It will go down to 45 miles an hour the past few days. Look for a lot of cloud cover. There could be a few isolated showers. A hotel in the south bay is showing off its newest staff member. Its a robot named dash. Its right at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in milpitas. Here it is. Three feet tall. Employees at the hotel say this robot is very helpful. The robot has been working fantastic. The employees, they think of as a colleague, thats helping them during their busy times.
