Oakland this morning happened just before 8 right near 98th and cherokee avenues about a block away from Bishop Odowd High School kron. 4 s Charles Clifford has the latest. Well, here in oakland on thursday, 2 people were taken to the hospital after their vehicle was caught in an exchange of gunfire. Around 7. 45. Thursday morning, a woman driving her daughter to school was caught in the exchange of gunfire here near 98 and cherokee. According to her husband, the woman tried to drive away, but their suv was struck by another car and flipped onto its side. The woman and her daughter managed to crawl away from their car. The driver of the other vehicle flat. Pretty scary knowing that she was in his accident. Everything according to the womans husband who drove to the scene, she and their daughter going to be ok, but were taken to the hospital just as a precaution or my daughter actually in the car. While the gunfire was going. Yeah. From what i was told, the other people jump to another vehicle and drove at this point. Its unclear why shots were fired or by whom. Oakland Police Department is investigating but so far have not identified any suspects or motive. Now, this incident did occur near Bishop Odowd High School, but the school was not impacted in any way. Anyone with information is asked to reach out to the oakland Police Department. The most recent Police Statistics are showing Violent Crime has dropped in several key categories. Assaults dropped by 4 and assault with firearms dropped 21 . Wright was down. 21 overall Violent Crime is down in oakland by 33 . Definitely attributing to implementation of the ceasefire strategy, which is not new to a client. We successfully implemented to strategy from 2012 to 2019 and had significant reductions in Violent Crime across the city. They have launched an encampment on campus at welsh field. The demonstrators are demanding that the school disclose all Financial Investments in israels military and pull those investments. Also a propalestine encampment at White Memorial Plaza on the stanford campus now in its second week, some students that we spoke with say they have noticed additional security measures around the campus. And we do know of at least 2 injuries after an aggravated assault encampment on the uc berkeley campus.
