Just seeing this is the most significant day for voters since the start of this election cycle and could mark the beginning of the end for nikki haleys campaign and actually mark the beginning of a rematch between President Biden and former President Donald Trump. Millions of Republican Voters across 15 states and one territory are making their choice for the gop candidate for president says about the american people. In her final Campaign Stop before super tuesday, gop candidate nikki haley urged her supporters in texas to cast their votes. All have a chance to make our voices heard. But if you believe the polls, haley is in for a disappointing night. The polls say former President Donald Trump is leading haley by 50 to 70 depending on the state and is already looking forward to a rematch against President Biden beating. And california voters will help decide the race to control the house in november where there are 3 republican held seats that are now rated as toss ups and from the replacement of the late senator Dianne Feinstein to local races and those props. So charles, youve been there all day. Whats it looking like us . Things are kind of getting closer to crunch time here. Well, good afternoon. As we get further along the day, theres more and more people showing up to vote. And also you see these big trucks behind me here. These are trucks for the county bringing. Boats back here to be counted a little later on today. Lets go and take a look at some video now here at this Elections Office in san mateo. You can either go in person and vote or you can go through a drivethru there in hand off your ballot and theyll count it that way. Crews have been here all day since early this morning, sending out getting ready for todays election, sending out these orange bins, which eventually will bring boats back here later in the day. Now, there arent too many issues to be voted on. As you were talking about, weve got to vote who the senatorial candidates will be here in california. The primaries for the pre, the president ial race, a few local races. But there really isnt much going on. What today is really is the beginning of election season, which will run all spring and summer until next november. Its going to be a long, arduous process. I asked a few people today if they are ready for whats coming. How are you feeling about the election so far this of lets get it its going to be tough. Its going to be tough. Voting, you know, have faith and see what happens. Im hoping we can get back on track have a voting process where people actually believe and know that their vote was counted correctly. Anything that we can do to. Help ensure that is a good thing. All right, back live now, if you want vote here in san mateo county, but youre not registered, you can actually come down. Do a temporary court sort of a a a vote. You can register to vote and they have to check your registration, then allow your vote to go through. So it is possible to vote today. Also, the polls are open until 8 oclock this evening. If youre in line at 8 oclock, when they close the polls, you will still be allowed to vote. One of the Big Questions on super tuesday as what is voter turnout going to actually look like Election Officials across the bay area and the state are reporting low Voter Registration numbers. So today during kron, news at noon, i spoke with the Contra Costa CountyRegistrars Office who said at last check only 17 of ballots have been turned in there. They say there are a number reasons that that could be leading to low voter turnout. This primary election. Its hard to interpret right. It could be any number of things where, you know, in california, we do. We have dealt with this, you know, movement of that calendar itself between june in march, it could be an expression of people thinking that their vote doesnt matter, which is something that every day we try to fight fight, that narrative, we are seeing a higher than usual number of adjudications, as word as were scanning ballots because of some right hands. And so that could be interpreted that people are wanting to have different choices. Contra costa voting Officials Say they have tried to encourage voter turnout in the younger demographic. Thats 18 to 24 yearolds. They started tiktok account to promote voting. There are also 4 dozen students helping out as poll workers in Santa Clara County, dozens of Election Officials are processing ballots that are coming in on super tuesday after getting off to a slow start. The county says theyre expecting a flood of ballots to arrive before the end of the day. Trends in these years have grown to wear ballots. The large, large amount coming in at the very end. So weve only got about 15 turnout as of yesterday morning. I think received over 30,000 in the mail yesterday. Well get updated numbers this morning. So ive received anywhere from 100 to 250,000 ballots on election day. In the past. So im hoping for a high turnout today. County Election Officials also reminding residents in case they forgot to register to vote. They could do so at any Voting Center in the county in order to participate in todays election. It begins at 8 in prime time. We have some disturbing new details now about a missing persons case that has turned into a Homicide Investigation in san pablo last september. Police were called out to investigate. A 40 yearold went missing along with her 74 yearold mother and now the 40 yearold husband has been charged with their murder kron fours. Age children are now without their mother and grandmother. Their father being charged with their deaths. As of yesterday, the District Attorneys Office did file formal charges, 2 counts of murder with a special enhancement against our suspect, a mister monday, the contra costa District Attorneys Office charging 40 yearold foot vo with a double homicide of his 40 yearold wife and her 74 yearold mother quoc tran. This disturbing crime coming to light last september when police were first alerted by vo that his wife and motherinlaw were missing. Mister vogt told officers they left in their family vehicle after a family argument, you know, for mister vo occurred, you know, detectives detectives noticed he know it a discrepancy. And in what he was telling investigators. And then, you compared against actions. Vo said the 2 women were last seen driving a 2017 honda fit to Southern California after a family argument on december 5th. This is what detective saw vo driving his wifes reportedly missing car in oakland. He was actually seen entering the and driving off on it, moving the car and parking in a different location. Subsequently, you know, an arrest warrant was issued for mister bo detectives served a search at last known location. The victims residence. Police say through evidence gathered from the search warrant, they had direct involvement in the disappearance and murders of his wife and motherinlaw. Detectives are still searching for the locations of the victims remains. He hasnt been forthcoming with to to help investigators call upon lanes. We working very hard to follow up on on leads in order to, you know, determined, you know, to to find out more answers and really bring our victims and their families. And San Pablo Police also say that those 2 children are now with family, but this is an ongoing investigation. The deputies responded to reports of a man holding a rifle just outside of santa rosa. And they got into a car chase with that suspect before a shootout started, investigators say one deputy was shot in the leg. 2 had hand injuries and one deputy is in Critical Condition from a head injury. The gunman crashed on stony point road and died. The shooting and crash are now under investigation by the Santa Rosa Police department. These issues started about 07 00am facebook logged users out of their counsel. Instagram users could not refresh their feeds. This outage also impacted met as messenger and threads app. According to the website downdetector, there were more than 575,000 outages reported at a spokesperson for the white house. National Security Council said that they were monitoring this incident and theyre not aware of any specific cyber activity that could be considered malicious at this time. What does that mean to you . What does that mean . Obviously, something technically went wrong there. App was down whole platform. Yeah. This is one of the problems with a private company. Have so much power over critical communication and information gathering platforms. We really dont know what happened and were we have no right to an explanation of this is a private company that doesnt tell us. But because they, you know, control so much of our communication and information gathering and services, you know, would be nice to know what happened. And i think more importantly to know what, if anything, theyre doing to ensure that this does not happen again. Yeah, i opened up my instagram and like wasnt refreshing. It looked like i had like. No posted no followers. I got a little freaked out there for second. But the sides of that like kind of emotional damage i did to myself, there was a loss of revenue. Also a loss of stock, probably a little bit. Lot of loss of trust from users. But whats the impact of this outage . You know, it remains to be seen what the impact of this outage will you know, one of things i think is really unique about this outage is that it happened to on a super tuesday with a lot of u. S. Citizens are participating in and election and we havent had a, you know, an election where people couldnt you know, the facebook or instagram platform in quite some time. So its interesting. Interesting change of pace almost an hour and a half. We have their of kind of going back in time to when there were election day is without social media. Do you think that that . Was just a coincidence that this outage happened on super tuesday. You know, i i do think it was probably a which, you know, i believe to be true unless i see evidence otherwise. But one of things, you know, we noticed immediately was a there was a lot baseless speculation online about why you know, outage occurred on election day. And think its its an important reminder that when anything is shrouded in secrecy and in this case, shutting down of the popular social media platform. If you dont give people an explanation or how transparent say thats usually Fertile Ground for people to develop baseless speculation about what occurred. So to your point, i think the baseless speculation and the failure of the company to explain what happened probably will reduce trust in for a lot of users and investors. Does this highlight our dependence on platforms. Highlights dependence men is platforms for communication. Information, gathering services. But i also think it makes a case for why we need transparency and accountability for these critical platforms. You know, we have very little public or democratic oversight of them yet. You know, the the studies and polls show that the majority of the electorate used these platforms consistently to get their news to get their information to communicate with others. And in some parts of the world, whatsapp is maybe the only form of communication that people have. So these are critically powerful tools, a very little oversight or accountability. And i think this episode illustrates the electorate could benefit from having some more accountability and transparency and it did not go on noted that in order for meta to communicate to people what was going on. They needed to post on x about it, which is certainly one of their biggest competitors. Even elon musk getting in there saying yes, sir. Something. Our platform is not having a problem right now. What does this make between these 2 companies right now . How does change their competition, their friendly competition. Well, i think the competition will remain, but i mean, it does show you a stark contrast between the 2 you know, twitter has pages where you can go to where they will communicate outages. I was i was struck by the fact that when facebook was out, it took them so long to make a statement about it. You know, all we really had word News Reporters who were talking to users who are seen, but they were unable to access the platform. But the reasons why or if it was going to be fixed or when it was going to be fix, none of that was communicated by facebook. And i the lack
