As President Biden visits israel. Plus one east bay school reacting to the passing of melanies law after one of their high school students, overdoses and dies because of fenton. All their plan to utilize the new lifesaving resources. Station. Hes calling 2. Thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. Im justine waltman and we start with a 4. 1 magnitude earthquake that shook parts of Northern California today. It hit around 9. 30, this morning in the city of i will time. Thats about 65 miles east of San Francisco. So far more than onethousand. Did you feel it . Responses have now been sent in to the usgs and this follows a 4. 7 quake that hit along californias north coast on monday. And even if you didnt feel either of those quakes, you likely got an alert on your phone today. The quake did trigger the my shake app and that Early Warning earthquake system app did overstate the magnitude at first called it a 5. 7. It ended up being a 4. 0. One. The usgs says the shake alert app works with very Little Information with those first few seconds of a quake and it is meant to maximize safety. Definitely. Got that alert on my phone that definitely looked around. I see anything whats happening in my moving. But were all in the clear here. Some people in the east bay about you . I got alert. I will say it was interesting that i think many of us they got the alert, the ideas that you take cover and you have a couple of seconds to be honest with you. I didnt do that. I sat there staring at my phone for second and then went out to see what everyone else is doing. Right. I think were getting used to having these alerts you how to put them into action. We still are kind of working out. At least i you know, full disclosure. I got to admit that. So this was a 4. 0. One magnitude earthquake happened about 9. 29. This morning about 2 and a half miles southsouthwest of ill 10 and you can see the depth at about 6. 7 mile. So. A lot of people did feel this. This is website from the usgs where you can go on and its the did you feel it right . You can see the center of it right there. But then you can see as we kind of move out where people did feel it. And it was felt in fairfield, it was felt in spots like walnut creek. It was felt down in livermore. So certainly the east bay was definitely aware that this was happening. Now, if we look at kind of the strength of this, this was a 4. 1 that is considered a light quake. Now, that does mean you have noticeable shaking. There are about 10,000 of these per year. You can see as these go up in magnitude. Obviously it decreases exponentially, really. And it is the equivalent of about 33,000 pounds of an explosive. So obviously, if you did feel it, you felt it for good reason. Meanwhile, back in the bay, its been all about the sunshine and the warmer temperatures today as we take a live look from the east bay, its just been blue skies wall to wall all day today. Temperatures right now sitting in the low 80s in San Francisco and some of the gauges there that are more inland San Francisco in the city. 71 out of Half Moon Bay where 89 in san jose and saratoga 88 up in santa rosa. So obviously temperatures have been increasing. Now if youre in the south bay or if youre in the Santa Cruz Mountains, youre already under that heat advisory. Everyone else that you see here set to go into that tonight at 11 00pm as temperatures are going to be rising, even higher as we get into tomorrow. So today, what were looking out for, were going to add to that as we get into tomorrow. Ill talk more about that and also some of the dangers that are unfortunately out of the coast, which will be one of the cooler spots. But not such a great spot to be. Explain that. You want to come back in just a bit. Back to you. Thank you so much. Well, students across the bay area walked out of class today calling for a ceasefire in the middle east. Kron 4 Charles Clifford has more from the group behind the walkout. And how one School District is now responding. As long as there are inspections to make sure hamas does not get it. He also told israel, but during the conflict in gaza, israel must live by its ideals. The president also says based on his analysis of data from the u. S. Defense department, he does not believe israel had anything to do with tuesdays devastating explosion at a hospital in gaza. People who live there have been sheltering there from the israeli air strikes, the building in the courtyard outside were full of patients. Gazas health ministry, which is run by hamas, has said as many as 500 people were killed there. Moss did blame israel for the carnage claiming it was the result of an airstrike. But israel says t e explosion came from a rocket fired by a group in gaza. And that that group is aligned with hamas and Israeli Military Spokesman Says hamas is deliberately trying to mislead people. According to our intelligence must check the reports on this, too. That was an islamic judge broke it. That had misfired and decided to launch a global media comparing. To hide what really happens. They went as far inflating the numbers of casualties. They understood with absolute certainty that was a rocket misfired by slamming red stamp. Fired over so israels military released this footage showing what it says is a rocket exploding in midair over gaza and then dropping onto the ground and causing a fire. They also put out drone video of the scene and it does not show any craters at the hospital, which is what you would see after an air strike. But that evidence is not convincing the air world that. Hamas is responsible. And all over the middle east. There have been protests against israel. This one at the u. S. Embassy in beirut. It became violent. Demonstrators threw rocks and fireworks at soldiers and police. The Police Responded with water canyons and tear gassed. Several buildings have been set on fire and the state department told embassy employees they could return to the u. S. If they do not feel safe. Similar protests happened in morocco, turkey, the west bank and in jordan, the president had planned to visit jordan during this trip to meet with arab leaders. But that visit had been canceled because of the explosion at the hospital in gaza. How this will impact this years wine and future harvests. And another day without a House Speaker as ohio representative jim jordan fails to get enough votes from his own party. Again, look at the latest from washington, d. C. , but first, as People Get Ready to beat the heat at some beaches, officials are warning people about sneaker waves and rip currents. The ways you can stay safe while swimming. As the heat returns to the bay area today and tomorrow, people who want to cool off at the beach might want to think again, dangerous or conditions may become life threatening. A former coast guard member now offer some tips on how to stay safe. Dont go into the ocean and try to save your friends. The coast guard has enough time dealing with one people. One person in the ocean let alone multiple people in the ocean. So your first thing never turn your back on the ocean. Always maintain your senses. And if you see somebody in trouble, pick up your phone and call 911. The coast guard is just over the hill there out here practicing all the time. Theyll be the first people to respond somebody in danger in the ocean. All right. Lets talk about how were going to get today and tomorrow. And kyle is also tracking the coastal outlook. Yes, lets talk about that because we do have some danger out at the coast. We have had a beach hazard statement out since yesterday goes till tomorrow morning. And that is for sneaker waves. Most importantly and also rip currents. But i say sneaker raise most importantly, because obviously youre not likely to be swimming in the ocean, but you could be walking out there trying to beat the heat and those sneaker waves can be very tricky and come up very quickly and knock you right off your feet. So the waves are going to be surging higher up onto the beach. As i mentioned, they can sweep you off your feet very quickly. That water is very cold, which you can confirm. Im sure anyone whos near the ocean and you do never want to turn your back on the ocean. Just like that gentleman was saying and hes worked at the coast guard. So, you know, he knows what hes talking about. Their water. Temperatures about 58 degrees, right off of point raise. So it is cold out there. Youve got a northwest swell thats happening. So not only is that going to create those sneaker waves, but as we get into tomorrow, expecting that serve to kick up even higher. And that is why we have a high surface advisory starting at 07 00am tomorrow going through till 07 00pm. We could see some of these particularly north and northwest facing beaches, sea waves, upwards of 17 feet. So very dangerous. Now, right now, those waves are only about 8 feet. As look at just a few moments ago. But that is just to say that its a little deceiving. When you go out to the coast, you want to cool down. Its beautiful. No doubt about it. But if you are going to be near the ocean or if you have friends who are visiting, theyre going to be near the ocean. Make sure they are aware of the dangers that are beautiful coastline, unfortunately comes so wisewere probably the low 70s out there today. But this is happening based forecast. 80 degrees. Tomorrow is what were looking for before. We then drop back to not only normal that then below normal temperatures. So the heat is the other big story out there. Obviously blue skies all across the bay area. You can see 79 degrees and one of my gauges in San Francisco. 89 in san jose. 88 in santa rosa. As i mentioned in the low 70s out at Half Moon Bay. So that is why we do have these heat advisories that are out now some of the bay right now in the Santa Cruz Mountains and also the south bay. Already under that heat advisory. The rest of us go into that as we get into tonight for tomorrow. As far as records are concerned today, i dont think were going to hit any. You can see we have to get into the 80s out of Half Moon Bay, upper 90s in napa today. But i think tomorrow we could get very close to threatening some of those records. That will be the peak of the heat on your thursday. Cooling it down on friday, a day more similar to today and then really cooling it down as we head to the weekend and a chance of a shower coming our way on sunday. Back to thanks so much. Will our cooler summer is now later harvest for wine. Grapes growers have about one month left to strip the vines kron fours. Also the money in.
