But obviously, as he said in 2 hours, time will know what the teachers have voted to do. Like i said, teachers have said in the past that they are prepared to hit the picket line. Should it become necessary . Theyve been in talks with the district for some time and those talks have not gone as well as teachers had hoped. So well find out again later on today around noon, what the result of that strike authorization vote is. So stay tuned for that. In the meantime, also today, Kaiser Permanente and Union Workers are set to get back to the bargaining table. Kaisers hoping ta reach a new agreement that provides employees with market leading wages and benefits and ensures high quality care if no deal is reached, there is a potential for another strikes are going to be following that very closely as well. Also, some breaking news overnight to tell you about. One person, unfortunately has died following a 6 vehicle car crash. This was on 8. 80, in hayward. The chp says that at least 6 cars were involved in this crash near west, a street at the offramp there in hayward happened at about 1 oclock this morning. All lanes were reopened at about 3. 30, no further details about the other drivers just yet. Well let you know when we find out more. A motorcyclist also died in a crash in san canyon neighborhood last night. This happened at camden avene and candylane is about 11 00pm. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene. No further details have been released just yet. But this does mark san joses 40th fatal collision and 41st traffic death of 2023. Well, a Brentwood Police officer in the hospital now after a teenager stabbed him. Investigators say this was about 5. 30, or so last night in the area. Brentwood city park. There were reports of a teenage boy threatening people with a knife. Officers say they tried to deescalate situation multiple times but the officer was stabbed as he tried to detain that teen. That officer was taken to a hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. The teen is now in custody. Police meanwhile, are investigating a Fatal Shooting in oakland. It happened wednesday at about 04 45pm in the 200 block of kerwin avenue. Opd homicide detectives are looking now for suspects and a motive. The victims identity wont be released until they notify the next of kin. And we have video of the chaos just moments after a car crashed into the chinese consulate building in San Francisco. You can see inside here, the man who took the video says he was waiting in line to submit documents for a visa when this car suddenly came crashing through the door and struck the far wall. He then claims the driver came out shouting, quote, where is ccp and then started fighting with security guards. You can see in the video here, people saw a moment ago people running to get out of that building before police arrived. When officers did arrive, they say thats when they shot that driver died at the hospital. The consulate hes supposed to reopen today. All right. Well, lets get back to our top story this morning. The fact that San Franciscos Teachers Union is set to announce the results of their strike authorization vote. I think we have will tran reestablished lets get back out to the well. Okay. So james, we should know in a little less than 2 hours from now, whether or not the teachers will authorize a strike, even if they did. And we will know the official results after they spent yesterday voting on it. They will tell us even if they vote. Yes, it doesnt necessarily mean they will be on strike tomorrow. Even monday. Right now the kids are inside their classrooms and they showed up bright and early at around 9 oclock this morning and change lake. Heres what you need to know. The teachers they are looking for more than 10,000. Thats what the School District is offering them per year as a rays. They won a lot more. They want kids inside the classrooms because they feel overwhelmed. As far as parent tease me, the teacher student ratio inside the classrooms. So what they want to do is make vote. And then even if they vote yes, they still have to circle around and get asked the second time. Are you sure you want to go on strike then . If they say yes at that time, then a strike is imminent. As far as whats going on, got a chance to talk to parents. They say its a very complex i do feel for them, you know, the its as you know, hard to. Make a living with the salary and the benefits of a teacher here in San Francisco. On the other hand, as a parent, you know, feel from a kid, you know, i i dont the last thing they need. Is to have their teachers be gone. That parents said that he should be ok, even if they do go on strike because his charles middle school. But he does feel for parents of Elementary School kids. We do know, james, that both sides will be backing back at the bargaining table on monday. So that means that more than likely, even if they vote yes. And a circle back, that probably wont happen until after monday. Just to give both sides. Another chance try to settle deal, if not. Meanwhile, in the north bay students attended pies high school in mill valley walked out of class on wednesday to protest racism. The group marched to city hall after classmates allegedly made a video using a racial slur. The students say they hope the demonstration will lead to change at that high school. Some incidents have led up to this which made have a walkout were against the administration hand, not facing actions against these people we just need some change on it. Well, Community Members also joined in on that march. We did reach out to the School District about this incident, but so far havent heard back. Well, happening today, the California DomesticWorkers Coalition will gather in San Francisco to protest Governor Newsoms vetoing over health and safety bill that health and safety for all workers act would have allowed cal osha to issue Workplace Safety rules for households employing a domestic worker. Currently Domestic Workers dont have those protections. The protest will take place. There will be a special event featuring handson solar site activities. They have their telescopes out there live feed as well. The peak time for viewing is between 9, 9. 30, saturday morning and hopefully the sky conditions will cooperate. But in the meantime, dont forget that. Looking at the eclipse without the proper protective eyewear is going to be dangerous for you. Heres a little animation. That kind of illustrates what happens if you just stare directly at it . Yeah, you get it. You burn the back of your eyeball. So dont do that. Thats going to create a black mark. Thats going to be in your vision forever because ophthalmologist say they really cant do anything to fix that because its scar tissue on the back of your eye. So there are proper protective eyewear, pieces that are rated to block out the dangerous rays of the sun. Just your simple sun shades wont do it. Youre a bands are going to cut it. Its a special film thats blacked out pretty intensely to protect your eyes. So make sure you use the right eye wear to watch this thing, which should be pretty cool. Johns going to try and watching himself a job. I am. Im taking a little drive this weekend trying to get up to where were going to see most of that coverage of the eclipse. The reason were calling it an annular eclipse instead of a total eclipses because of the nature of this, the moon is a little bit further away from the orbit of the earth right now. So its not going to completely block out the sun, but have that ring of fire wrapped around it and that half of the annular eclipse doesnt go too far away from us. So thats where im going to try to head. But even if you are staying locally here in the bay area, youre still getting 80 coverage. As james was advising, you and that graphic definitely displayed for do not be looking at it with the sunglasses. Make sure that youve got those special eclipse glasses. Last you want is to damage your eyes. If you are looking to head to the north areas like medford, oregon, or even right here in california, youre going up to modot tourist areas like that. Youre going to get that full effect of the ring of fire. If you want to head to further out east, youre going to get some more sunshine out towards areas like when im a can of ad which are going to be also along that half of the annular eclipse. So if you dont mind taking the drive, those are the spots to get to. And you can just stay here in the bay area. But we are going to have a few clouds drifting through friday night into saturday morning, something were not really seeing right now for any of these areas.
