Apparently there are not enough officers to keep the city safe. Kron fours amanda hari has details. City Council Member mike urbanic a says theres a void in the Police Department. This resulting in incidents like this one im told right now we have approximately 31 officers, including supervisors to cover 7 beat on a 24 7. 365 day year operation. And it is my opinion that that is not enough officers for proper coverage danica used to be a Police Lieutenant who handled scheduling for his department. He says 31 officers is not enough. He says the Department Needs outside help. My fought at this point is that the city also look at bringing in the california Highway Patrol to supplement. Traffic enforcement any doesnt just want chp is help with traffic. He wants the contra. Costa county Sheriffs Office is help with calls for service. He had an unrelated meeting with the sheriff recently and the polices Staffing Levels came up and he told me that. The Sheriffs Department would certainly be available to assist in that. Could talk further as far through city channels. Council member barb annika says hes heard from the community and theyre concerned he thinks they should be. The antioch Police Department has already had to pull officers from their traffic division. And with only 31 officers, almost all of them will be forced to work overtime. Its a matter of time before that heating sets in. And we we have a responsibility to this community to make sure that it is policed properly. Who can donate blood is some and bisexual men get out make a donation after the fda upda changed and updated its guidance covers. Michael thomas has more live in the newsroom. Hi, good morning, everyone. The fda actually approved this guidance back in may and now with the american red making this implement on its guidelines, it could be seen as a win for both activist medical groups and those really in need of blood. But some say that the new policy is still a rational and counsel people out. Now, lets get to some video. This new from the fda and the American Red Cross will now allow all donors to answer the same eligibility questions regardless of gender or orientation. And well look at individual risk factors which will eliminate the fdas previous policy that differed and bisexual men from donating at all. However, individuals that are taking prep medication for hiv prevention will still be deterred. The fda Officials Say thats because theres a concern that that medications could cause false negatives. Now they did get some backlash for this and scrutiny. And thats not only from the lgbt community, but also elected officials like senator scott wiener. You see here from one of his post that says ultimately banning those on prep that are less likely to have hiv and accepting those that are not on prep doesnt necessarily make sense. And well, it is a big step in the right direction. The policy still differs. A lot of and bisexual men from donating. And thats because many of them are on prep medication. So they dont get hiv. Now it comes to heterosexual people. There will also be some changes and some may also be different depending on their activity during the threemonth span before they going to donate. But it is important to remember that all blood donations, however, are still screened for hiv and hepatitis b and c live in the newsroom. Im Michael Thomas started. James, well send it back to you. Thanks a michael. State lawmakers gave the green light to a plan temporarily raise tolls on several bay area bridges they did yet, but a group of local lawmakers are banding together now to oppose that rate hike. We have kron fours Ella Sogomonian to tell us why. S p 5. 30, tour is a bill introduced by senator scott wiener known as a safe, clean, reliable Public Transportation emergency act. And it would generate more money for struggling Public Transit agencies like bart and muni if signed into law, it would temporarily raise toll fees by one dollar and 0. 50 on all bridges except the golden gate. The goal is to raise about 900 Million Dollars over 5 year period to prevent service cuts. But local representatives mark this on anna eshoo, barbara lee Eric SwalwellJohn Garamendi and Mike Thompson all disagree. The Congress Members wrote a letter opposing the move saying they dont want to offset any budget deficits to drivers who already face tolls as high as 9. 50. They argue that lowincome residents will be burdened with the higher bill to commune into the city. In a statement they wrote, quote, an analysis of toll fines shows that low income communities across the bay area have much higher rates of unpaid tolls and wealthier zip codes indicating the disproportionate impact. An increase in tolls will continue to put on communities. Theyre already financially strapped and have a tough time paying for them. The letter has received support from the Bay Area Council who is a staunch transit supporter, but says a rate hike is a shortsighted approach that its going to disproportionately hurt lowerincome commuters, the and and folks who come from communities of color primarily in the east bay were. John is playing this time around pool. Yeah, are you . I was a lastminute addition. Its about this good feeling about this one. So we are seeing a good feeling out there today. As far as the weather goes. Better feeling than the past few days for inland areas. San jose, you were in the 90s yesterday today. Its going to be the low 80s. Nice cool down for and youre still keeping that sunshine around. Stratus still hanging out by the coastline and it pushed inland this morning for sure. But weve really since cleared out the High Pressure ridge contributed to the heat we had over the weekend into yesterday with our inland areas in the nineties. Today, though, a solid 10 to 15 degrees cooler, low pressure, dragging it along with it. That much cooler feel. And were going to keep that around through the remainder of this week. Tomorrow morning youll get another dose gray during the morning followed by more sunshine. Kind of like were already tapping into out there now, todays daytime highs will be in the 60s for San Francisco and at the coastline. Not as much sunshine in the spots. Youre definitely going to see some greyer skies right along the coast. Where is the rest of us . Do see plenty of sun and thats going to pair really well with those 70s and feel a lot better with the 80s in the south bay and the inland east bay as compared to where we were yesterday, which was scorching hot 60s in oakland up to richmond while walnut creek, concord, barely even making the low 80s today. Spots like napa, sonoma, santa rosa through standard fell only in the 70s. Now tomorrow, thursday, friday, were keeping the momentum going right around our seasonal averages with 60s at the coast. 70s for the bay and 80s inland. Jurors will climb pretty quickly into the weekend and early next week. So were not done with the heat. Just taken another breather from it. Rain. All right, john, well, we have a little bit of good news. Weve been keeping a close eye on the san mateo bridge for most of the morning. We had a major hot spot drive times well past hour. N
