rainfall. >> here in just a matter of hours. we will start to see rainfall dying down and we're going have the longest break in this forecast from these rainy conditions. so something to look forward to on christmas eve for sure. so i know a lot of us get a little bit of shopping, a little bit of air and still get taken care of. and a lot of us also have to do a little travel. your view outside this morning at a berkeley hills camera is showing you that view that has a lot of cloud cover right above it. but we are looking at a fairly calm conditions right now, at least from that shot. definitely calmer the further north in the bay that you're talking. we're we're seeing some of our heaviest of rainfall is right now from richmond towards vallejo on over to concord. you're actually in a little rain pocket, right of a berkeley where we are seeing that camera view right now, but do expect rainfall to increase for you. temporarily buckets of rainfall around san mateo as well as down towards redwood city, south bay this morning. you've been seeing some heavy rain at times right around saying who's a stretching on up into the diablo is just east of you. that's where some of look at showers hanging on for a few more hours here by 07:30am most of the bay area's dry. we've got a few east bay and south bay showers lingering on at that point. then look at the rest of the day. we've got plentiful sunshine and nice break from the rainy conditions through the afternoon rainfall does return overnight tonight. a couple of isolated showers fairly early in the evening and then really into early tomorrow morning. the rest of us start to see that heavier line of showers scooting its way on through making for some rainfall into saturday morning. and of course, additional snowfall across the bay area mountaintops as well as up into the sierra nevada where we will certainly be looking at a white christmas up their rain and snow to continue on and off on into sunday to close out the holiday weekend. now in the meantime, right now we're in the 40's and 50's it's still relatively more warm start to the morning for the bay. a lot colder up in the sierra, though, which is good news to see. our mornings are about to get a little bit cooler as will be our daytime highs in fact, temperatures don't change much at all into the afternoon. today. look at our inland areas only from 49 degrees to 50 degrees on average this afternoon. so not a whole lot of temperature change to be expected even with the sunshine that we're going to be seeing reyna. john, thank you for that. all right. so you still have slick conditions. as you're out there this morning. >> i'm seeing some roadway flooding this is northbound one. oh, one unlucky drive. this is up in corte madera. so definitely change are tired very quickly because you want to stay warm you know what but don't get sick out there in those conditions at all these conditions out here. john is going on. we out. so it's very rainy and snowy up in the sierra nevada. so snowy in fact, from donner summit, you can't see anything. >> there's a signpost that swaying in the wind at the very corner of the screen from time to time. but that's about all that we're seeing as far as any sort of snowfall or any sort of view from donner summit goes right now. so this is not the morning. the early morning evening to be traveling on up into the sierra. we will catch a break from that snow later on today. but as we're talking about in that story. heavy snowfall is in place right now and conditions up. there are already bad. so if you wanted to travel into the sierra hope you already had the chance to do that because it just gets worse and worse as these series of storms moved through now for the north bay. morning. we do have that dense heavy snowfall that is packing the roadways and that is resulting in a really slick conditions up there. chain controls are in effect and we are going to see that for much of the day today. so rainfall does push out between 06:00am to 07:00am for most areas. after which point we're actually tapping into a lot of sunshine for the bay area this afternoon. notice how snowfall does eventually taper off on into mid afternoon. but it's still going to be very wet and snow packed up there now as we move into the evening tonight, your christmas eve transitioning into christmas day with the return of rainfall and some heavy predawn showers moving through. this is what you're going to be looking at as you're waking up opening presents with the kids tomorrow morning. the lick observatory while the rest of us in the bay or just looking at some heavy areas of rain. we will see conditions coming briefly into saturday afternoon, late in the day before resurgence of rainfall on into that evening. sunday continues to bring some on and off showers and we will be looking at rough travel conditions this weekend from start to finish. so that's why we're saying if you're heading up into the sierra or northern california for that matter. really hope you already got your destinations because it is such a rough go out there from this point forward into monday morning continuing to look at those spots of showers in some heavy rainfall at times possible. well into the middle of next week. winter storm warnings are in effect right now on through sunday evening over a foot of snowfall piling up for many areas and temperatures today will finally be a little cooler than what we had been seeing. 40's and 50's livermore and morgan hill being our coldest spots in the upper 40's tomorrow and sunday. we keep those cool temperatures going before an even cooler day on monday of next week. heaviest of rainfall being saturday morning and then sunday night into monday right now. john, thank you for that. hey. so the biggest thing you have to be mindful love is all of those wet conditions. we've got some roadway flooding. >> in the south bay san jose story on ramp to northbound want to one. also southbound 8.82 northbound also have is roadway flooding there. also in the marion area northbound 1, one at lucky drive. looks like the air as well. you want to be mindful because conditions are slick. but we're looking at the bay bridge right now as you're heading from the east bay into the city. that's going to be about a 13 minute drive. just take it slow this morning. san mateo bridge heading across towards the peninsula a little under 15 minutes as you're traveling there, we're going to have more weather and traffic throughout the morning
