The town of rocky is going to be discussing a proposal to perhaps consolidate them. Raga are in the Fire District with the contra Costa County Fire people are thinking since it is the beginning of Fire Season. This might be the wrong time. To do this kron 4. Sarah stinson is live in moraga with the details. Good morning, sarah. Everyone that kron 4 news has talked with has said they oppose this proposed plan and we just spent the last hour at a starbucks talking with people. And so far everyone we talked to said no, should definitely not be merging. Fire districts, but nobody felt passionately in a ford felt knowledgeable enough to talk about it on camera. We know who is passionate and knowledgeable and that is Town Council members, county leaders as well as the mayor of moraga all saying this is not a good idea. Lets not move forward with this now tonight the moraga Town Council. They will consider officially opposing the idea the Mayor Agha says resources should continue to be spent on the delivery of high quality fire protection, Fire Safety and Emergency Response systems. The president of rather in the Fire District board says moraga is in a Highrisk Fire needs its own local Fire Department. The Fire District also called and ofd was established in 1997 and has been very effective. It has a budget of over 28 million dollars. The idea to merge Fire Districts came up again back in 2009. But that was shot down one County Supervisor hopes the result from Todays Discussion is goes the same way. From my perspective, when you have a really wellrun Fire District. Its well funded and supported by the community has an excellent thats doing what they need to do theyre meeting their emergency medical response times. Theyre dressing Fire Safety particular Wildland Fire there really would be no reason for a sick on fire to even think that seen them have. The Fire Department and the or in the Town Council will discuss this at each of their own meetings next week them or at the murrah Town Council meets tonight at 6. 30, virtually still to discuss this. And as i said before, they planned on opposing the council has already received at least 8 emails from concerned residents saying they think this should not happen either. Again, were on the brink really starting to get into Fire Season as weve seen little fires pop up across the Bay Area. Many people saying lets just stick with what we got in focus on the fires that are bound to come our way james, send it back to you. All right. Thank you very much, sara. 7. 04, and the red flag warning around the Bay Area. May be over for the moment. But we know that wont last long. We have santa Clara County residents now looking at the. Eventuality of higher Water Bills. Yeah, it was going to happen. The Valley Water Board approved a hike. And that means you have to pay more and use less covers Camila Barco is live in san jose. Thats the whole point is they want people to cancer. Darya james. The board met last night they unanimously approved their budget for this upcoming fiscal year. And in that budget includes a 9. 0. One Percent Increase in water rates. So take a look at this. The average customer. Well see an increase ranging from 4 and 0. 32 to 4 and 0. 82 per month. Now, according to the board, the hike in water rates is for the next fiscal year. That starts on july first and ends June 30th of next year. The Boards Chair says the money will pay for Emergency Water supplies due to the drought increase conservation. Programs and invest in infrastructure and technology. Part of the money will also pay for the Pacheco Reservoir Expansion project. They cost about 2. 5 billion dollars. San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo is against the hiking rates. He says it wont help increase Water Supply for the Community But Board members say they still have to raise the price for drinking water even if they didnt use the money to pay for the dam. So the funds would be used for other system improvements in diet. James, i spoke to a who lives here in Santa Clara. He didnt want to go on camera. But he tells me the boards. Does it decision to increase water rates is unfair, especially with gas prices going up so customers like him should expect to see their water rates go up starting this july back to you. All right. Thank you very much. Camila. Another big story that were following this morning is what is going to happen with Oakland Leave could they lose. That is the last team standing yeah. City oakland as now exploring with the leagues permission. The possibility of relocating outside of the East Bay. Which longtime fans know theyve been playing there since the late 60s. But major League Baseball recently just gave the green light to move if the city of oakland rejects the Teams Proposal for that Waterfront Stadium at howard terminal. Weve been talking about seems like for years, 4 years. Yeah. This thing has been up in the air and in red tape and not getting done. And so now the as i i like their quote where they were saying, you know, we want to create the best experience possible for our fans. This season and beyond. Is it does for the fans if they have to after look, kind of experience. Will you have in Las Vegas where every all. Wherever nashville. So many places are already talking about. So the team says theyre waiting on the city to make a decision when they meet july. The city, the City Council says that well, it hasnt received a response from team owners and now youve got the Fans Kind of stuck in the middle. We have the president of save oakland sports. He says he hopes the u. S. Stay. Its kind of in a tight situation. Now. You know, were not going to we keep fighting to try to keep our team here. So you know, and i would argue its not necessary to water of ballpark project. Its a new vision for the city of oakland that has a ballpark it right. So what theyre talking about moving us in the 21st century in terms of the city you know, after World War 2 right oakland was prime to be big part of the west coast because we have a vision back then when coliseum in the 60s that that was a vision that so this way looking for for the city as a whole and then you have the greater ballpark there as well. Well, it sounds good. It sounds good. So its a problem just got to you know, have to ask Libby Schaff whats the problem . Thats right. That sounded good, right. Everybody thinks, oh, that sounds good to make oakland. You know, better have more jobs it wise for us. Happened yet. What are we still waiting on. So well pose those questions to mayor schaff. Governor Gavin Newsome announcing a 12 billion Dollar Effort to confront the Homelessness Crisis in california. Fact is calling it the largest investment of its kind in the entire state and it would create 46,000 new housing units which would provide about 65,000 people with a roof over their heads. Governor newsome says that under his California Comeback Plan as he calls it. The state is looking to functionally end Family Homelessness in the state in just 5 years. Meantime, East Bay berkeley homeless advocates are voicing their support for governor newsoms plan. The crisis continues to worsen in the city. No matter how often the homeless encampments, for example, along interstate 80 in berkeley that cleared out the homeless come back and they came in near university avenue, Freeway Exit seems to be just getting bigger. Homeless advocates say that removal is a temporary solution that they believe the best way forward is to offer permanent housing. I think that with this new funding coming forward and will also be instrumental in. You know, creating real change and bringing new solutions to the table can really put a in how many people are currently facing homelessness not only locally to berkeley or the Bay Area but to the state as well. Advocates say that other quick actions that can lead to positive results include extending operational hours of shelters making trailers available as living spaces in offering transitional housing. Dozens of palestinians have been killed in these clashes over the past couple of days. 5 israeli citizens have also died. Hundreds of people have been injured. And in response to these attacks East Bay. Congresswoman Barbara Lee released a statement this morning saying in, quote. In part, quote, i condemn the horrific violence in the middle east in the strongest possible terms and Urge Bot israelis and palestinians to act urgently to de escalate. President biden himself has not yet commented on the situation. Coming up next. Tragedy in the East Bay a car crashes in a neighborhood killing 2 people and injuring 2 others. So its another day. And so officer and and the suspect were taken to the hospital where they both died. His wife is also stockton police officer. They have 3 children and Detective Luka Benedetti from san obispo was shot and killed on monday while serving a search warrant. He was a 12 Year Veteran of the force. In the East Bay. 2 people are dead and 2 others are in the hospital recovering now after a crash in berkeley. The accident happened on marine avenue. 2 cars involved in one car. The female passenger was killed. The male driver was taken to hospital. But also later died. The passengers in the other vehicle, a mother and a child suffered only minor injuries. One of the vehicles also hit a Power Pole in that knocked out power for hundreds of customers of Pg And E for a time. Police believe speed was likely a factor in that crash. Just kind of looking at the overall scene where the vehicles came to rest. Rest of the roughly a block apart. You know, which kind of just tells us that this was a high for us are high impact type of collision. Avenue is known by the locals. There is having a pretty steep grade and speeding down. It can easily become a recipe for disaster. Now some neighbors think the City Government should really do something to fix that problem. Well, quite the range of temperatures across the Bay Area today for coastal spots. Its going to be a little Bit Foggy and certainly on the cool side with some 50s and 60s right up and down the coastline now for Inland Areas. On the other hand, keeping the heat and the sunshine around daytime high still climbing well into the 80s. A few 90s. This is before Cooler Weather in the works ahead of us. Ive got your forecast. And as your wednesday Morning Commute picks up. Im Tracking Traffic collisions along highway for 8. 80. Also we have a Fog Advisory at the golden Gate Bridge drive times are starting to pick up your favorites. Well have more up after the break. 7. 30 is the time we are back. Taking a look at that fog continues to roll in at the golden Gate Bridge. Thats pretty to see that thick. And while no, in fact, all i glanced over the Weather Center johns getting even better picture of how thick that fog is this morning. Yeah. Good morning, guys. Its been this way all morning long. Just barely see in the top the sales force tower. Everything else. Shrouded in it. You can see also the East Bay hills there in the distance very gray skies to kick off this wednesday morning. And as daryn james mentioned, some of the thickest fog that weve seen in a minute. So what that means for us maybe get to the roads a bit quicker because what we are seeing is such dense fog in many pockets. Oakland in half moon bay, seeing visibility falling below a mile. Now for some of our bridges. This foggy sitting right above you. But for areas like the golden Gate Bridge. Youre in the midst of it. Now radar is showing at least dry skies. And once we do get rid of the fog. Weve got another sunny day ahead of us right now temperatures are in the 40s and 50s and its going to be a slower warmup through the course of the morning because of the gray skies up above fairfield. Pittsburgh livermore. Youll be some of our first spots to tap into the sunshine and thats the warmth. Thats your temperatures are already starting to rise a little bit reyna. Thank you for that. We have some new Traffic Collisions of popped up out here in fremont. 8, 80 northbound at fremont boulevard. Thats slowing things down along 8, 8, easier and highway 4 at roval avenue in pittsburgh. There is an Accident Westbound here. Slowing things down along highway 4. Also a Traffic Collision Right here. 80 westbound near the tolls. Thats also a new Traffic Collision slowing things down just a tad bit. 15 minutes. Well keep a close eye on that as you head to the fremont Street Exit into the city will be looked at the golden Gate Bridge and just how foggy it is here up to 22 minutes for your drive time. If youre wondering. Well have more coming up next. But for now, back to the news. Well do everything i can to ensure. The former president never again gets anywhere near the oval office. We have seen the danger. That he continues to provoke with his language. We have seen his lack of Commitment And Dedication to the constitution. And i think its very important that we make sure whoever we elect is somebody who will be faithful to the constitution. Well, thats the breaking news this morning. A major shakeup in the republican party in washington. You just heard from Congresswoman Liz Cheney where moments ago she was stripped of her Leadership Position in the gop stripped away by her fellow republicans. She had been the 3rd highest ranking member of the party. And this is just one of a number of political stories were following this morning. We want to get the political analyst michael yaki, whos joining us live this morning. So that was a big news this morning, michael, that the Gop Ousting one of its own where just a few years ago was heralded. As you know, an up and coming star in the republican party. Big news, not unexpected. In in if you reading what Kevin Mccarthy and others were saying, but it is i think it has a Signature Moment for the republican party in defining what it will be come 2020, the 2022 midterms and the 2024 election by doing this. They have firmly cast themselves as the party of trump and i just wonder how thats really going to play in the long run. For swing voters and independent voters in key are key swing states across the country. You know, thats a good point because in order to take the you know, maybe the house or the senate back in the midterms. Youll hear some people saying that its those very voters that they probably party needs to sway back into their camp. But if theyre going to go hard core the past election was riddled with fraud that the, you know, Bidens Victory in eyes. I just dont know how they convince those in the middle of the road to come their way. Its its an odd think what theyre trying to do is theyre theyre theyre keep their decide at their base. They cannot live without the trump base. Thats number one. And number 2 is there going to try and give it to the traditional republican attacks on the biden Infrastructure Plan is 2 high taxes too much spending, etcetera. But i think that the specter of Donald Trump is going to weigh very heavily on al voters. Look at the republican party now and in the future and theyre not sure how successful that is, especially when you have a president with 53 Approval Rating and where the majority of the american people actually like the Infrastructure Plan that hes put forward. So this is this is a gamble by the republican party to get a gamble that there that they are going to put their their their trough with Donald Trump. And well just have to see about a year, a year a year or so from now with the primaries and the general election okay. Lets talk a bit about infrastructure because as we know, the president is still. Wanting a bipartisan bill to get through 2. 3 trillion is the cost right now. Hes meeting with some senate republicans this week. I know he met with some. Centrist democrats christian cinema Joe Mansion this week trying to find some sort of middle ground. It will be possible or will he just worked to try and convince. Cinema and mansion to come on board just passes through with democratic support. Still old better healing to a lot of people in congress and the questions going to be is going to be one big package or is it going to be a package of stuff that they cant get bipartisan support for and then little packages or come through with support. I think thats what theyre looking at right now. Today is the first meeting of the big 4. The House Majority and minority leaders and the Senate Majority Minority leader with President Biden since he took thats going to be interesting to see what sort of comes out from that meeting because what people dont know is, is that there have been about 3 to 400 meetings and phone calls with regular members of congress by the administration trying to get them to buy on the particular projects. A bridge thats going to be, you know, survey their state. I way that will that will do it for their district, right. These kinds of things that that make up make are very appealing. The individual members. Well, hes hoping maybe to get something passed by summer time. Well see if that happens in the meantime, were still in the midst of the pandemic. It looks like more and more americans are getting vaccinated. The maybe not at quite the rate that they were hoping. But when it comes to at least the president s Approval Rating when it comes to that pandemic and the handling of it. A new a P Poll out this week shows 71 of americans which includes, by the way. 47 1 of republicans agreed the president s doing the right guiding us through this pandemic overall, as you mentioned, his overall Approval Rating stands at about 63 . Pretty high marks. So far. Very high marks a think its its its a testament to the fact that he is no drama. You risa call obama. No drama obama. But but really biden is really not only no drama but hes also decided you know what, theres Theres Incrementalism is not what im going to be about. Im going to go big. Im going to go all. And i think the american people were tired of sort of the little fixes around the edges are saying we can only do this. Theyre embracing the idea that we can do something in one fell swoop, you know, prepare or roads or bridges. Broadband access health care. But people are putting people back to work, creating a green, a call. I mean, these are things that i do resonate with the american people. They like the idea that going to have a president who is thinking big wants to go big and hes doing it in a way that is appealing to blue collar and white collar as well. And then lastly got to talk a bit about the recall of Governor Gavin Newsome new a poll out by U C Berkeley today or this week anyway shows that support for the recall is dwindling. The governor still enjoys about 52 approval. His republican challengers in this latest poll only getting minimal support. 22 1 at best for the strongest candidate, Caitlyn Jenner only getting about 6 support in this latest poll. Where do you think this goes between now and whenever this Recall Election happens in the fall. Well, the number you really focus on is whether or not there is that is opposition to the recall itself. The other numbers were all sort of certain cells out in terms of who could replace. But as long as that the the disapproval for the recall stance. Very strong. Gavin newsom is in the Drivers Seat and we have a Budget Surplus means getting more money from the feds. Hes going to able to deal to give Rent Relief to everyone spent about being evicted. These are all things that are great and it doesnt help when the person whos trying to position themselves as there biggest challenger Caitlyn Jenner goes on tv and says, well, i just want coffee and on November November 2nd and then go voting didnt vote at all. And then the record. Sure that they did that. She did vote and now they cant quite explain why. Know, didnt vote. But you actually get these are the kinds of things you dont want to see coming out the gate for any candidate its all the other good news nice miss trying to do. I think that its going to be hard. But again, this is a snapshot. Theres a lot of time left. If the pandemic comes roaring back of a new share income. Schools can open you know, it could be a brand new ballgame com. Lakes late fall early. Some late late summer, early fall. Thats the thing about politics. Things are always changing. Michael, thank you so most change your perspective this morning and well have much more to talk about. Im sure in the days and weeks to come. We appreciate your time. Thank 7. 41 new this morning. Prices are going up on Everything Consumer prices rose nearly a full Percentage Point in april in the past 12 months. Prices have gone up by more than 4 , which is the fastest rise since 2008. Put off chores and use less energy from 4 to 9 pm to help keep our state golden. This wednesday morning. Hopefully its been a nice one for you as you wake up to. Some of this out there. Were not looking at near is bright of a morning across the Bay Area as what we had been seeing earlier this week. Dense fog in parts of the region right along the shoreline along the bay to so give yourselves a few extra minutes as youre waking this morning, hopefully venturing on the roadways safely, taking it a little bit slower out their temper on one of those spots this morning. Were not seeing a whole lot of sunshine just yet. Just a lot of gray in the distance currently fog is stretching all the way through San Pablo Bay and thus far north as portions of southern napa and southwestern solano county. Also very dense right along the coastline. High pressure is in place helping to keep us dry. Thats something thats not going to be changing in this forecast. What does change is a lot of other factors, though. Finally we saw winds relaxing last night. Those hot dry winds that were in the northeastern part of the bay that results in red flag warnings. No longer part of the picture and Thats Fire Danger has diminished a Bit Fog pressing along the coastline. A sign of cool. Coastal breezes returning that will really kick into gear starting tonight. And that is going to sweep some of that Ocean Breeze all the way to our inland valleys result in a nice cool down across a wide part of the Bay Area starting tomorrow as for today, our Inland Areas are still on the hot side up to 90 degrees. Livermore 88 while san jose 86 hayward, youll be at a nice 77 while oakland and San Francisco cooler in the upper 60s. Now tomorrows temperatures at our warmest fall into the low 80s and even cooler yet into friday and saturday. Big change of pace for the rest of this forecast. Certainly no chances of rainfall but starting to feel a little bit more comfortable after whats been so hot lately reyna john, thank you for that. We certainly have picked up in terms of our commute times. 18 minutes. To the fremont Street Exit on the Bay Bridge. We had a Traffic Collision westbound near the tolls again, that more traffic, all of those factors slowing things down there. John touched on and its been very foggy.
