district is having all of its faculty tested and as encourage students to get tested as well for parents to return to distance learning was not ideal. but they understand i've talked to a lot of we're anywhere from about one to 7 degrees warmer. >>and we are tracking overall mild temperatures as you head out the door mid 60's for downtown san francisco. san jose flirting with 70's at 68 degrees with widespread mid 60's for the east bay shoreline oakland and berkeley at 66 degrees but in the low 70's for fairfield in pittsburgh. so about 10 degrees above average there with nap at 67 degrees in santa rosa, currently 69 degrees as you step outside it's a great way to wrap up your workweek forecast for your friday afternoon radar though tracking very dry conditions but we do have a slight chance of light scattered showers making its way into the north bay possibly by around saturday night through your sunday morning could see some light drizzle for parts of the bay area mainly along the coast, but overall looking like a very dry outlook in fact, one of the driest decembers on record 20th percentile range for the north bay valleys and even the east bay valleys as well and that fire danger threat could be at the moderate to high level starting sunday night through monday with the return of gusty offshore winds and as you can see monday afternoon could even see elementary school student she describes what concerns her most about a child's distance learning experience. >>it's so fresh ing not to mention the fact that what might it actually needs the most is to learn how to interact with other kids so i'm actually less worried about him academically than i am socially at this point he is reluctant to leave the house. you know that's not normal. >>from the beginning of the pandemic outside of a select number of elementary school students receiving in person support for distance learning the vast majority of berkeley students have not returned to the classroom, even though some parents say the opportunity was there back in october with the city was in a less restrictive tier for covid-19 i want for clean fight to prepare for reopening so that as soon as the health officer says it's safe to reopen our kids are back campus. we reached out to the school district and the mayor's office for statements we received no reply. on saturday berkeley to quickly roll out a brand new vaccine. this process has some doctors looking back now at the 2009 h one n one flu pandemic and the challenges that they faced then and trying to get people vaccinated rachel scott has the story. a lot of the challenges was rolling out the covid-19 vaccine or similar to what health care with the h one n one flu vaccine. >>supply issues delays one big difference. now i'm told covid is a much greater and more urgent threat. the idea that history repeats itself lots of similarities to we're dealing with now is an often applied to a global pandemic lasted about that is so strange strange that around this time in 2009 people like doctor michelle barron we're navigating the h one n one flu vaccine. >>people lined up to get the limited number of doses and this guy was on your screen is a gap between supply and demand initial supplies for the h one n one vaccine were limited so only high-risk populations like kids and young people received that first according to a 2010 brief from the state legislature. colorado initially got about 250,000 doses of the vaccine. but by the end of 2009 distributed over 1 million to county health departments and other providers that was nearly 3 months after the first doses became available by the time the vaccine was widely available case numbers were declining doctor barron an infectious disease specialist at u c house remembers the challenges they faced and didn't know what we were going to get it we didn't know how much fear and against. >>and then we didn't know who would actually take it they actually received the ship she says it was a combination of those things that led to public distrust in the vaccines still because of the timeframe in which it was done a lot of skepticism about whether corners have whether they were really following through all the normal process is a big difference from what we're facing now h one n one didn't throw off our entire way of life the way covid-19 house for nearly 9 months that's a nation for h one n one us to help sort of lowered the caseload but it wasn't meant to be like ok we can start living her life again kind of meaning and so this is just going to be much longer process to get there. that was rachel sky reporting for us and doctor barron says one of the biggest lessons learned from 2009. >>is figuring out what patients are concerned about and what their preferences are also being as transparent as possible about the vaccine. >>coming up next on 4 acre ken wayne just talk with doctor deborah birx from the white house coronavirus task force hear what she told him about california's latest stay at home orders. plus new results from their most covid-19 vaccine trials what the data shows about the antibodies produced after receiving the vaccine. also after the break 5 bay area counties starting top stay at home orders earlier than what the governor said would be cummings will have a breakdown of which counties are in or choice at this moment you know governors and mayors across this great country want to make sure that hospitals are available to every american that needs care. yes, the americans that need care from this serious virus in this pandemic but also americans that need care for their other medical conditions and i think every governor and mayor recognizes that although we are moving this vaccine as fast as possible. and it will be immunizing health care workers and a limited number of vulnerable individuals that are and how long term care facilities that leaves still a 100 million or so americans with comorbidities that we know often resolved in hospitalizations are succumbing to this virus and so we're asking everybody to make these changes now how did we end up getting here if we had all warner mask. if we had not gathered outside of our household. your governor will not be making these recommendations at this point and i think our behaviors will determine the next 4 to 6 or some part of the bay area have started the shut down earlier than what the governor was saying we needed to do if we reached icu capacity at 15%. >>i think it's a wise idea. so yesterday or the first time that the agency has advocated for universal face mask coverings like i know we've learned a lot about covid since it really was started taking over. the beginning of the year, but why are we getting this message now from the cdc is it too little too late. >>it's definitely better late than never for us for that masks are greatest weapon in scope in fact masks plus social distancing there and say we've got to keep the masks and even indoor as we you know hopefully we can get through this winter stirred control it to the greatest extent possible and then look forward to a much. >>and really quickly since you in the ucsf emergency department how is that their power house more ow, how are patients are you full i mean it sounds like things are they're trying to stop the spread actually did cross this 15% threshold just today they had only 14% of their icu remaining available and i think that may have had something to do with the bay area health officers going to head and
