Get on roadways the east bay actually pretty clear as is the north bay and no coincidence that these are also your cooler spots livermore and dublin at 3735 in the meantime san jose you have increased marine layer and thats more mild temperatures that 45 napa at 34 right now while santa rosa, the cool spot at 32 degrees. So quite the range of temperatures depending on where youre at i will be talking about yet another sunny day, no big surprise there and your afternoon i am talking to robin right now about some traffic though, and it does look like even though its only 05 00am weve got an issue already thats right. We do out in the brentwood area along vasco road which is not heavily traveled during this time of morning john. But it is a major hot spot because we a fatality now just confirmed by chp. So vasco road is closed between highway 4 and walnut to investigate this fatal accident was a headon collision. So we dont know how long its going to take to clear but if you normally use vasco as a short cut from highway for leaving britain would maybe to get over to livermore and check to 5. 80. Its blocked off right now as they investigate this crash all definitely stay on top of it the bridges look great though heading into San Francisco this morning delay free at the bay bridge toll plaza an easy trip at 8 minutes off to fremont street and were checking in on 92 a little bit of a line there it is leaving hayward so we have a crowd right now west of the toll plaza and a little foggy to the fog is rolling in and out and chp just issue a fog advisory for the san mateo bridge still 12 minutes here from the east bay over to the peninsula so daryn james ill stay on top of the fog advisory, the bridges and of course the fatal crash thats under investigation in brentwood and we wonder whats going to happen with the commute if the state indeed does this new stay at home and weve got less people traveling and Everything Else it could be going back to what we saw march which is what we need you know fewer cars on the road, fewer folks out and about so hopefully well see all right. Thank you very much problem. So at 5 02, 1, of the big stories this morning is in fact the governor gavin newsom is warning californians other possible stay at home or if covid19 cases continue to increase its going to be something impacting all of us here in the near future i and were watching this carefully as we watch the number of cases and deaths. Over the last month in the last week alone. California has been averaging 14,000 cases a day. The big concern is hospital beds they want to make sure that our hospitals are not overwhelmed. State leaders are projecting that kocian Covid Patients could overrun the hospital beds by early january. If these numbers keep up and you can see the numbers on your screen here in California Well over one 0. 2 Million People testing positive and these are the deaths and thats what watching is hospitalizations and deaths are going up california with more than 19,200 deaths in the bay area. Were now approaching 2000 deaths. So theyre going to continue to watch what happens after all of the family gatherings. Theyre afraid of that surge weve been warning you about thats something coming down the line so were waiting to hear what the governor decides when he do when he does decide if he last time i believe what he makes big sweeping actions like this we get a couple of days. Well say it and then say its effect friday, a web so you get you get a few days in a little bit of a warning, so well have to see what he does on that front, i know in the north bay marin county still. The only county not in the most restrictive purple tier. Its in the substantial red tier but that is expected to change this is a look at the state of the coronavirus infections. There in marin county you can see the total cases so far weve got more than 5500 total recovered 5100 total hospitalizations a 189 and the total number of people tested in marine county you can see the number on the far right a 195,000 plus we certainly want these numbers to start going down instead of up because as they go up. We get closer and closer to that purple tier designation proper sara stinson live in marin county with more on the possibility of the county moving into the purple sarah. James you just brought up all those numbers and we know that the numbers are on the rise here in terms of coronavirus cases everyone here in marin county is bracing for that change a change were all too familiar with moving up the tier system you know we have been moving up the tier system in a positive way for the last couple months and then as we head into thanksgiving, we saw a decline which we expected and then now were kind of just bracing for the results of giving did people gather are people going to get most likely that is what Health Officials are saying so thats what theyre bracing for and you can only imagine if you were an owner of a business. Youre definitely on edge right now waiting to see whats going to happen. Here in marin county. You know Warren County again remains the last in the bay area to be in the red tier but Health Officials believe it wont be long before it joins the others in purple, the most restrictive tiers this as many schools just went back to the classrooms for in Person Learning and as the High School Districts are planning to go back in january a month away from now businesses are probably feeling on edge moving up the tier system for months but now slowly moving down. Imagine if you own a retail shop. You have 50 capacity right now and youre hoping you know people come in and shop for the Christmas Holiday and you know black friday was just here cyber monday, Small Business saturday. But now that could be minimized to 25 to be losing revenue they have to again you know staff hours maybe even cut staff and so thats going to be a huge worry indoor gyms churches would have to go back to outdoors so a lot would change from the purple to the red and that is why people are nervous about it now the county health officer, hes worried too especially because of the holidays in the ramifications that would come from them. If we dont reverse this trend now. Well be in a much deeper hole to try to dig out from mid december and into the new year. So the holiday gatherings i think is it is a really important potential driver of this need to address. Whether or not governor newsome puts stay at home order and place its probably a good idea to just act like it is in place stay home as much as possible continue to do what youve been doing wearing a mask and keeping distance from others and maybe continue to rethink how you celebrate the holidays because if youre anything what ive been hearing other people saying you dont want 2020 to be like 20 or 2021 to be like 2020s are already been a very rough year. Hopefully we can get it together and lower that case rate now were going to continue induct Health Officials here marine county so stay tuned as we get updates. But as i said james darya definitely on the rise, definitely a concern. We all right well be tracking the numbers there in the north bay. Thank you very much sara all about hospitalizations and having room for Covid Patients. Thats what the governor and all the Health Experts are watching and worried about lets go live to kron fours will tran hes in daly city with more on that problem with. Having enough hospital beds will. They were very fearful of that earlier this year james and area which is why the governor he basically started against Seton Medical Center area was on the brink of bankruptcy. It was all but shut down, but the governor stepped in earlier this year said we will need the beds. He anticipated that covid19 would get out of control and he was trying to acquire hundreds if not thousands of extra beds across the state because of situations just like the one that were seeing now. He has always said that he would be powered by Scientific Data and the data does not look good as covid19 cases are exploding across the state to the point where many hospitals are near capacity. Some over capacity. And the reason why shelterinplace was started in the first place was because one obviously they wanted you to be safe. But 2 they wanted to make sure that the hospitals had plenty of beds enough Staff Members to deal with covid19 cases in the event that they should get to where they are in our possible e even worse if youre waking up this morning most of california. Its in the purple, but the governor he will have a News Conference a little bit later this morning. And there is a chance he could hit the emergency button and go shelterinplace very reminiscent. What we saw earlier this year, heres the governor talking about the terminations of deep purple in those purple tier status. That is equipment more in line with the stay at home order. That folks were familiar with in the beginning of this year the high case numbers that weve seen in the last week and 10 days have not even hospitals yet we know that it takes about 2 weeks. So right now when he talked about 2 weeks. Thats because of the holiday that we just saw thanksgiving on a lot of people they gathered even if they adhere to the conditions of immediate family you dont know what the situation may be that they could go out there and spread coronavirus which is why the tests continue and we are always perpetually 2 weeks behind because of the testing. 2 weeks from now the governor could declare a shelter in place even before then but in 2 weeks we will know exactly where we are today. But if youre waking up this morning, you are in the purple but all things are on the Table Including going back in time to what we saw in march and even april. Back to you all right, thanks a lot. Well. Time now is 5. 10 still ahead on the kron 00 00am morning news as well was just talking about barry hospitals bracing. For an increase in coronavirus cases explore that much more deeply plus businesses in San Francisco are now changing the way they operate with a new curfew thats now in effect and then of course after the break. Weve got one bay area east Bay School District saying that some of its students are being left behind during this pandemic will explore that as well. Another chilly start with the temperatures in the 30s and 40s later today though were talking the 60s yet again across the bay area with ample sunshine. Your forecast ahead. Im tracking your morning drive around the bay area, heres a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, its nice and smooth on 80 into San Francisco. But im tracking a fatal crash in brentwood, ill have details coming up. Find your rhythm. Your happy place. Find your breaking point. Then break it. This is my new saying so whats it like out there james is i dont have to deal with well depending on you you see any of that coming in from the north and i saw a big old fat record on than a. Weve got a little bit of fog in some scattered depends on where you are john i was telling yesterday i was walking into the station from the garage theres a massive coyote right in front the station saw that guy to tell the coyote well that was just i saw him a week ago yeah, falling the neighborhood, yeah, at least its not i want that one but yeah wild animals, this morning, a little bit of fog thats what she could watch out for mostly the but yes there is definitely some of it sitting are right across the east bay here berkeley looking at a blanket of fog sitting right across the. East bay hills. Well as you head your way into work watch out for areas like one oh one to 80 even 90 to robins been talking a fog advisory on that bridge. These areas right here have seen the densest a fog settling right down now its not super widespread just a few bands of it that will be clearing pretty quickly futurecast shows you ample sunshine late morning and afternoon skies a little bit clear tonight leading into another clear start to the morning tomorrow. This forecast is not offering up a lot of changes in fact does the opposite it is steady hardly changing it all dry sunny High Pressure in place and setting up shop with us all the way through your first week of december. Likely in your second week of the month to so in the meantime, its back to 50s and 60s we go coastal areas as you would expect a little bit cooler than the rest of the bay because the rest of the bay actually works are way up just a couple of degrees compared to yesterday. That means more daytime highs today in the mid to upper 60s for the south bay, san jose youll be at 66 cupertino also right there east bay temperatures solid 60s areas like oakland right at 65 conquered one of your warmer spots at 68, sharing that number with both napa and sonoma not far behind in fairfield nor vacaville at 67. Santa rosa also at 68 for the daytime high making for a comfortably cool afternoon, especially once you factor in the fact youve got all that sunshine to enjoy. Tomorrow a few clouds in the afternoon but aside from that we do remain dry and comfortable 30s remain fear inland evening lows. Well, 40s fear, bayside and coastal lows over to you robin all right, thank you job are checking in on the traffic, some spots are great others, not so much. Our biggest problem that im tracking right now is this fatal crash and brentwood this is vasco road which is blocked here between highway for and won that theyre investigating a headon collision that resulted in a fatality, so theyre just asking folks to avoid this stretch if you can theres no estimated time of clearing that theyve issued a special Traffic Alert for this once again vasco road closed between highway 4 and checking in on 92, the fog is definitely rolled in chp issued a dense fog advisory in now we see why the fog here pretty visible across the 70 oh bridge so take it easy headlights and wipers may be needed distance yourself you know dont follow too closely, but at least we dont have any crashes in the 12 minutes off to the peninsula leaving with a look at the bay bridge toll plaza 80 west doing fine into San Francisco. It is wide open very quiet so come on in 8 minutes for your drive off to fremont street will check more bridges and more drive times coming up a little bit later back to you thanks a lot. Its 5. 17 a new lawsuit challenges, california has promised to provide a free basic education to students, the lawsuit. Was filed yesterday in Alameda County superior court. It claims the state has failed to do its job in providing necessary resources for children in underserved communities in the pandemic there are concerns as students in those communities are falling further behind in the education gap, one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit says this is all sure that their voices are heard and things are done to help students. Babies are already behind. We cant afford we will not stand for this to continue. And theres no reason that we cant do better where kids that things are are getting that basic right of education when they cant. Even if its remote when they cant access that remote education they dont have computers they dont other device that they dont have connectivity. The lawsuit claims that for years black brown and latino students have been underserved by the Education System and they also say that students in these groups dont have access to the devices that they need computers to close the digital divide. Well teenage parties over the thanksgiving break may have exposed a number of High School Students in pleasanton at least 2 students have tested positive for covid but its unclear exactly how many more students were exposed. The pleasanton unified School District is now temporarily suspending in Person Learning programs that it was operating at its 3 high schools. That includes Amador Valley foothill and village high schools. The district says this is a reminder that we need to take this virus seriously. These programs continue to be affected. And and its our students that well. There are a lot unfortunately bear the brunt of that and they desperately need these programs can we. Theres nothing more we want to do then provide that for them. But its its really up to our community and and the choices that they make. The district is asking all students who are at those parties to follow the guidelines from the Alameda CountyHealth Department and isolate for 14 days. And keep an eye out for symptoms. Marin county by the way is continuing to reopen schools for in Person Instruction as of right now the north bay county remains the only bay area county in the red tier of the states covid19 watchlist students Strawberry PointElementary School return to classrooms for the first time in months yesterday. Thats in the mill valley School District for the time being the district will only keep students at school for a few hours each day. Students also have to wear masks practice socia
