I mean this halloween was shaping up to be an epic halloween right is on a saturday theres going to be a full moon, its in San Francisco. I mean its really a beloved holiday here with kids and adults with dressing up getting out partying. But and its also the mayors favorite holiday. She says she was really looking forward to celebrating this year. But youve got coronavirus now so weve really got to. Let me show you some video she was out today touring in the excelsior district today. Talking to businesses many of those had halloween decorations up. The mayor says were starting to see a rise in hospitalizations as peace earned also number of new coronavirus cases. She doesnt want people to think just because we are in the yellow tear that we can go and celebrate like we used to. And so what im concerned about right now is that as we go into the whole halloween weekend and people may feel good San Franciscos in a good place but were not and its going to put us in a situation where we may have to make some adjustments and as much as halloween is like my favorite holiday ever to celebrate even i have to take a step back from what i traditionally would want to do to do what is in the best interest of the people of the city because if wed all and were talking about future holidays where we wont be able to celebrate in the ways that we enjoy. So look at here is a decoration right on a house now the mayor house decorations are encouraged. Costumes are encouraged there pushing virtual costume contest is an idea. But theyre discouraging trick or treating the department of Public Health has a list of ideas if you have kids create a Haunted House inside but for just your household have a Scavenger Hunt in outside heading the treats like their easter eggs, but again just or your household and do have people over to celebrate keep it outdoors limited to 3 households and up to 25 people max, and thats it theres no food involved. And the Coronavirus Health officials are calling it a co infection at this point officials are not releasing any information on the patient except to say that they are under the age of 65 flu and coronavirus symptoms are similar. So if you have symptoms Health Officials are encouraging you to get tested for covid. In San Francisco, 5 people has tested positive for covid at Ucsf Medical Center. The her nasas heights campus. And staff are not sure how this happened. 2 patients sharing a room and the 3 employees who cared for them have tested positive. Both patients tested negative for coronavirus before being admitted to the hospital later one tested positive. On the routine discharge test. The employees are reported to have mild symptoms while the patients appear to be asymptomatic the hospital is now working with the state and Health Department to figure out more about this outbreak. And well turn now to the very fast approaching election day which is 5 days away voters are registering and voting early in Record Numbers in Santa Clara County. This election is already one for the record books more than a Million People are registered to vote here in Santa Clara County and more than half of the ballots that one out of already come back in its happening as we speak in the mail and then to drop boxes like this one right here outside the Registrars Office where this gentleman is dropping off his ballot. And its going to be that way right on through monday and tuesday. Heres more. Again. Yeah youre good can i just make sure you owner shannon spent part of the day thursday helping men a ballot box where a steady stream of voters were adding to the already Record Number of ballots received we have already received over 478,000 ballots back. So its been great were processing those on a daily basis, an army of workers are already processing and counting. The first returned ballots from the record one millionplus registered voters. So far 238,000 ballots have been returned more than 2 times as many ballots and we returned this time 4 years ago. People are invested in this election like never before says the registrar it tells us that people are listening to the message that we have been putting out and actually they think the whole nations been putting out about. Voting early. And you know weve been talking to a lot of voters about if youre even worried about the post after skip the post office drop it off and there dropbox or to vote center. It means there will be that much less scouting to do on Election Night but that doesnt mean well know all of the winners and losers right away. The return and counting of ballots will continue long after the polls have closed and the huge numbers mean the counters have their work cut out for them we need to process provisional ballots conditional Voter Registration and their ballots. And we do many audits, including a one percent manual recount so were counting for like even the ballot paper that went out to a vote center how many ballots did they cast and how many papers the paper vote papery is so we have a system of system without checks and balances that were going to for the 30 days after to get to the final results. And still thousands more people have actually voted in person already here at the registrars beginning on saturday about a 100 Voting Centers will open across the county and will stay open through tuesday. The hours are 09 00am to 05 00pm but on election day they expand it from 07 00am until 08 00pm and it is one of 100 Voting Centers throughout Santa Clara County that will be open parking is free at the Great America parking lots. Meanwhile, secretary of state alex padilla says there are many security measures in place now to make sure that the next few days leading up to the election goes smoothly. After sending a memo to Election Officials about the laws and consequences of voter intimidation and harassment. He says Law Enforcement is on standby. But as a last resort. He says so far there have been no concerning incidents with early voting underway. Folks are there to observe can not in any way interfere with the administration of elections. Its really cant cross the line try to harass or intimidate somebody was trying to exercise their right to vote. Election supervisors are trained to make sure that the election goes smoothly, havent been trained on how to de escalate maybe some tense situation that there are questions. Well yeah right now, im standing a kind of the bottom of sine hill. This is the hill that has that big south San Francisco, the Industrial City sign on it and the city says that theyre going to close down all trails you can see some of tape in closure signs they have behind me here and thats because of what happened at that big fire about 2 weeks ago, lets go and take a look at some video now that blaze broke out on this hill back on october 16th i quickly became a floor for alarm fires fire swept across this hillside, it is bone dry out here. Fortunately crews were able to bring that fire under control in a couple of hours. But the city is now saying that some of the trails the infrastructure, the steps some of the signage eye on this trail were damaged and so theyre going to close it down for the foreseeable future if we come back live here at this point they dont have an eta for when that work might be completed again, its very dry out they need to come up with a plan make sure that everything safe. All 4 people are walking on the trail and that safe or you know doing the best they can to prevent fires. Also as far as that fire goes 2 teenagers a 14 yearold a 16 yearold confessed to starting that fire. No word yet on what if any punishment they might be facing. Since june first 14 shootings have been reported in the city of alameda. What troubles interim police chief randy fan is that number accounts for the total number of shootings all year long there were 9 for the first 5 months of the year and only 10 reported citywide the previous 2 years combined fortunately, no lives have been lost this year to gun violence, but there have been injuries or arrests have been made in 5 of the 14 shootings investigations, though these cases have resulted in an increased workload for a department that is also trying to adapt to the pandemic watching whats happening with more folks not staying in jail when theyre arrested because of covid people being released because of covid. In the north by now the city of samara fell is being sued after a black male man was detained by police in august the federal civil rights lawsuit claims the police. Wrongfully detained karl bracy for being a person suspected in a carjacking bracey has worked for the post office for 21 years and says he was on his way home in his mail carrier uniform when he was stopped the lawsuit says bracy drove a different car than the one that was described in the carjacking alerts and the south bay, San Jose City leaders partnered with the community to raise a black lives matter banner at city hall today. Mayor sam liccardo was joined by members of the Community Organization you type to celebrate the unveiling of the new banners.
