Theres the shot from temper on just to give you a quick idea of that theres more that to come for today was some of those scattered clouds working here. But ultimately it will be the dry air thats going to kick in here, lets check out those temperatures will quickly this 50s over most of the region got a cool 48 up to santa rosa looking pretty good at that 46 for napa also cool up there. Yes, you know were at record numbers more democrats and republicans are pressing ballots therefore more democrats returning those ballots continually telling us that theyre going to vote late on election day there and. But looking at number thats 50 million plus 51 52 million with 85 million ballots requested nose or record setting numbers these are numbers that maybe dont hit 19 oh 8 6464 and a half percent but they get much closer above 60 in to that 60 low 60s. A category 4 participation that is a number that benefits the challengers not the incumbent. So as turnout grows as the early vote continues to come in. That is coming in at a higher rate for joe biden then for donald trump so anythings going to happen the last 8. 10 or 11 days. It has to be substantial dramatic. But its a gloomy vision where about the American Dream all about the American Dream greatest country in the world. Meanwhile meantime a biden attacked the president s handling of the pandemic also President Trumps claim that a vaccine is right around the corner. We focus on developing safe and effective treatments and distribute a safe and effective vaccine. President trump. Trump claims he found a cure. Let me tell you that we have 1000 people die each day. All for today were talking about mild temperatures going on there look at the board there 60s and 70s dont be fooled just by that imagery there because were looking at dry air building across the bay area red flag warning as we finish off the wee good morning welcome back were getting some mixed messages first we have this red flag fire warning which we expect in the summer time but starting to feel like fall. Yeah were finally getting that a tumble feel a little bit were getting flavor of it this morning and even some fog going on to so lets just soak it up in absorb. However, as we start to get into the end of the weekend watch out because a red flag warning means weve got strong offshore winds temperatures right now weve got the 50s over most of the region for right now 48 at the santa rosa. And those upper 50s grabbing the east bay shoreline driving all of this. Our 2 major weather systems. Were on the backside of the low when the front side of a high. Windy conditions, they work like yours that in this particular scenario. It provides an offshore wind coming in strongly out of the north and the northeast. But the other issue with this is to very very bone dry air that we have even though temperatures are not to be that lofty with this but lets just run through these winds yet much start stop them here about sunday at about 11 00am were going to see skies also clear out much better tomorrow, but theres that pocket of some heavier stronger winds notice theyre all coming from the northerly direction notice the arrows here they continue that way is those winds still out the entire bay. Here you have it all arrows are either coming into north or there from the northeast as you will notice. This takes us out to monday morning. And then into the afternoon they finally subside a little bit so its not a real long time period for the red flag warning going on, but its a big thrust of dry air and when this is all said and done by Tuesday Morning for the rest of the week. This dry air kind of lumbers around the bay area afterwards just a quick note about rain we had seen so much rain for so long, its been dry as we talked about. Now were getting to extreme drought category this covering parts of napa county Solano County hasnt yet filled out the whole bay yet but that again being extreme of course exceptionals the high level and we saw some of that just a few years ago, what a run through this with you real quick that the weekday long forecast theres the dry air you can see it spills out of the pacific very far and then theres a little hope and maybe a shower as we get into next friday saturday. Were teased by this by this system coming over right about now. So hopefully in the back side of that will give us those real strong dry offshore winds your 4 zone forecast 65 for San Francisco, lets do the lower 60s along the bay side peninsula, im sorry the coastal peninsula bayside upper 60s at that heading down further south. Hey lets try some lower 70s, 73 palo alto redwood city at 72. Down the south bay, 71 jose 72 going on for sonny bill, no p to 72. Los gatos comes at 73 east bay shoreline to the south upper 60s got 73 going on for pleasanton 74 for livermore and jumping up the Contra Costa County 73 for concord 68 for open 64 for richmond. And the Solano County, those readings in the lower 70s today, inland getting up to the at 6566 benicia 65 for napa 71 for santa rosa again the lower 70s take us down south the southern moran was 67 for no valley check it out the 7 day forecast here lower 70s at first forget those winds are kicking in here by sunday high fire danger but temperatures cool relatively speaking but bone dry little bit of a warmup we expect as we get into the middle portion of the week in the upper 70s and we even have dont you know it looks like about an 81 or so by the time we finish off the week so mardy that is the game plan as we look ahead for the week ahead, it is great see those 70s but id like to see a little rain drops. All right. Thank you dave. Well, San Francisco remains the only bay area county in the least restrictive yellow tier. That means that bars they dont serve food can start pouring drinks again in about a month or so, but it doesnt mean that theyre all going to reopen including this the saloon in north beach is the citys oldest bar kron fours Maureen Kelly talked to some of the owners who say if they can only serve drinking drinks outside its not making a whole lot of sense of them to welcome back customers. Myron new is measuring the parklet outside the saloon currently being used by the restaurant next door to see how drinkers he can legally serve in what is essentially the one parking space hes allowed to do business and and i think. I could maybe get 8 people in there. And so the legal means social distancing established in 1861 the north beach watering hole lays claim to the title of being the oldest continuously operating bar in the city. News station youre watching and a red flag warning has been issued for the entire bay area as the strongest winds of the year are expected this weekend. Its the latest threat and whats already been a destructive and historic fire season. Good morning, everybody welcome to the kron 00 04am morning news at saturday october 24th hope youre having a good day on Marty Gonzales well that red flag warning were talking about goes into Effect Tomorrow night and will last until monday want to get right kron 4 meteorologist dave spahr hes in the Weather Center with more on what we what we can expect with that red flag warning i dave good morning. Well good morning marty good morning, everybody and obviously were going to have dry offshore winds in our future as a result red flag warning for the entire bay area all colored in red there. And the other issue too with this is going to be when we say dry air on talking bone dry air on talking dew point values at the coast that are below freezing, so you dont even have a coke and thats whats fresh out of the fridge. So this is why this is being posted because of that going to getting into some of that in just a bit right counterintuitive as we take a look at things we got humidity going on yeah fog as we can see the shot from timber on way off to the distance the golden gate is there we can see it too well. Temperatures pretty much a lower 60s cover the east bay shoreline, some chilly upper 40s up there the north bay or for a fall like 40s up north. Were a little bit warmer across mid bay than we were this time from yesterday elsewhere we are trailing. Temperatures will be a bit on the mild side though for today were looking at temperatures in the 50s by high noon will be into the middle to approaching the lower 60s and then by the afternoon, well have some 70s working and there was some better sunshine to tomorrow, speaking a better sunshine well see more of that however got to watch for the dry air will begin to some of that coming up in just a bit morning. All right dave seen a couple minutes. Thank you lets get back to our top story this morning that red flag warning is prompting pg and e. To warn its customers about the possibility yet again of a Public Safety power shutoff now unfortunately this warning has become all too common here in the bay area kron fours reyna harvey live in berkeley this morning with more on how people there are preparing for the possible shut off this weekend, rain and good we know that theres a strong potential this is going to happen and so we can plan and prepare and get ready to the best of our ability more than a 140,000 customers may be impacted thats a lot of people marty and its across the bay area like dave mentioned you can see right here the areas that are going to be affected by that potential power shut off tomorrow you can see here in Alameda County 39,000 Contra Costa County 20,000 out in the rain 19,000 napa 15. Santa clara county 4,000 out in Solano County 1000 Sonoma County 38,000 San Mateo County 4,000 that totaling up to a 143,000 plus customers that going to be without power potentially now we know that there are 2 red flag warnings that are overlapping so those are hitting areas of the north bay east bay hills also out in Santa Cruz Mountains in the lower valley, so everybody could potentially see some power shutoffs like i mentioned a lot of people in the bay area, not happy about this take a again. Thats my reaction again, its. Inconceivable to me that a company like pg and has been allowed to go on neglecting the infrastructure for so long that now every time the wind blows they have to turn the power off. Right i know a lot of people can relate to her is she saying this is happening again and so now that we know this is happening you can stick around with kron 4 because were going to have those updates especially when things first start to shut off. I know we get over on kron on we have those updates immediately available for you so well be monitoring the situation to help the weekend bringing you the very latest but for now reporting here in Berkeley Brean harvey kron 4 news, yeah, again among other things, thanks a lot for that live report. Well ahead of those strong winds are expected tomorrow there are crews in napa county. Theyre already dealing with a brush fire. Its the pope fire and its part just before 4 oclock friday afternoon. So far its burned about 50 acres. The latest update that we have has the fire at 25 containment this morning. Now the flames broke out just east of saint alina and northeast of like an a c. Now we want to show you a video from earlier its a time lapse of the fire and it shows how it how it moved across the area now it doesnt appear that any homes or businesses are being threatened the cause still under investigation this morning and of course well stay on top of this for you and monitor the poe fire for you both online and on the air. And this is very timely it sees fay Fire Department the showing off a new high tech flying firefly flying high flying firefighting tool its called con air one it was fully certified last month to fight fires from the air. Its equipped with buckets that are capable of carrying and dumping more than half a ton of water. In fact it was used to stop the forward progress of a fire that threatened danville and marotta earlier this month. The chopper can also drop down low enough to lift firefighters and victims who are on the ground and it can do so without landing. We bring is very local response. So if you have a little fire this morning over in mount diablo we can be there in minutes not going to see any cbf aircraft maybe a half an hour they they tend to look at about a half an hour. A spot start recent red flag days. Recent significant fires, a company with tremendous unit draw them. Makes the addition of this aircraft even more useful for the community and for the surround him. This is the. Well the con air chopper will be staffed with a pilot a nurse and a paramedic as well. Some east bay parks will be closed because of high winds that were expecting beginning tomorrow and to the east Bay Regional Park District says that those high winds can cause trees and branches to fall possibly injuring park visitors officials are also worried about the high fire danger so 11 parks will be called will be closed beginning tomorrow and on monday. You can find the full list of those parts on our website at kron 4 dot com. Its been one year since kincade fire burned through Sonoma County that blaze burned more than an hour 80,000 acres destroyed 174 homes, cal fire investigators found the kincade fire was sparked by power lines owned by pg and e. And still ahead this morning, well find out how the city of oakland trying to grapple with its rising murder rate this year. And the disturbing trend theyre seen among offenders. I warning key in washington today. The senate went into a rare closed session cameras were off and the doors were locked as democrats tried to once again delay the nomination of judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. And now we have the latest on our coronavirus coverage. The u. S. Has a grim new record breaking number of covid19 cases, more than 77,000 cases reported across the country in one day alone. And here in california. There are reports of a significant jump in new covid19 cases as well over the last 48 hours more than 6,000 people have reported and the new cases along with 73 deaths thats the largest one day case count in weeks. The total statewide cases reported now is more than 886,000. And there have been more than 17,000 people who have died from the virus. Bringing it back to the bay area the San Francisco Unified School District says it will reopen for in Person Learning beginning in january special ed classes and preschools will reopen early next year. Theyll be followed by kindergarten and first grade looking for a Health Care Provider who can conduct regular covid19 testing. And we have some good news for people in the south a nearly 300 playgrounds and Activity Centers in san jose will be open this weekend. But of course theres a catch. The city says playground equipment will not be sanitized so parents instead are being asked to sanitize equipment before and after they use it. Some of the guidelines for reopening the parks include washing or sanitizing your hands before and after using playground equipment wearing face coverings at all times and keeping 6 feet of distance from those outside of your home. I actually really excited for the fires love my kids weve lived here for 10 years weve become this park. We love it. Yeah the city will be monitoring the parks and facilities to make sure that people are being safe social gatherings there are still prohibited day at just sanitize your hands and you get some hand lotion going on here because we have some serious dry air coming our way too. With all of this red flag warning talk that we have sultry skies coming in here from a walnut creek as you can see a little bit little fog is saying a low this morning checking the forecast called for a morning news. Good morning welcome back its finally starting to feel like fall around the bay area bit chilly this morning as we start this weekend days far as here. Tell us more about the forecast a good morning. Marty good morning, everybody and a little flavor of some fog going on in london let the hazy sunshine making through whats way there through. At walnut were going to see that fog breakup more so and dont expect so much of that into the future all right, lets check things out we got going on temperature wise first most readings are in the 50s we have some lower 60s along the east bay shoreline here, upper 50s you can see well inland kind of some Unfinished Business which is this fog in the Morning Cloud cover will keep some of that in the forecast today you can see that kind of mixing out a little bit into tomorrow morning might have some of that kind lingering around just a little bit far cry from the morning to the afternoon youre going to feel a difference in the air mass as it dries out throughout the day tomorrow looks like and there it is from the sky conditions cleared out and youll see why here are that start with the winds first thats what everybody is going to notice. Heres the uptick we freeze things just before noon. The directions are all set all coming in from the north readings in the teens 20s and some cases were getting up to about 30 or so Coverage Area concentrated in the north bay watch it spread out there its in the east bay peninsula remaining in the north bay as late as monday morning. And then finally starts to subside as we get into monday afternoon. Doesnt mean were out of the woods yet though lets go to the moisture levels this is the relative humidity levels to put this in terms of percentage is even though we like to look at dew points though, because it really tells us how much moisture is in the atmosphere but lets go for to give you general idea. Sunday early afternoon whats the deal weve got most readings in the 30s weve lower than this before going into the overnight recovery. What recovery. What happened here nothing look at this. One percent relative humidity and those actual dew point numbers are subfreezing means you have to get the air to like arctic temperatures 15 degrees to get any moisture out of it thats how dry it is and these are coastal locations looking at very low numbers as well. So whens the recovery will we lose the winds pretty quickly in the monday afternoon, stopping things tuesday overnight very early were still in the 20s over all of the real estate even some upper teens. Take it all the way out to about wednesday. Morning were still looking at numbers in the teens. So the future red flag warnings may be posted beyond this point because were going to be banking off of a dry atmosphere during a good chunk of today we have mild conditions going on San Francisco to get some clouds the when theyre 68 for oakland, 71 meanwhile for san jose as marty was talking about filling quite the wait is highs today, we expect to make it approaching the middle 70s in the far east bay up to the north bay, some 60s and some 70s well check into that extended forecast for you and the 4 zone little bit later on marty. All right dave. Thank will go on for of course your local election headquarters things are really heating up now as were just 10 days from election day today. Millions of americans though have already voted one count shows nearly 52 million americans have already filled out their ballots and Catherine Heenan who is the host of inside bay area politics, talk to one of our analysts about what all of this could mean for the president ial candidates. Yes, you know were at record numbers more democrats and republicans are pressing ballots therefore more democrats returning those ballots continually telling us that theyre going to vote late on election day there and. But looking at number thats 50 million plus 51 52 million with 85 million ballots requested nose or record setting numbers these are numbers that maybe dont hit 19 08 and 6464 and a half percent but they get much closer. Above 60 in to that 60 low 60s. Its a choice between. Optimism patriotic vision for american success. Or joe biden stark dismal gloomy video what he said last night about dark to start is always starts. But its a gloomy vision where about the American Dream all about the American Dream greatest country in the world. Meantime biden attacked the president s handling of the pandemic also President Trumps claim that a vaccine is right around the corner. We focus on developing safe and effective treatments and distribute a safe and effective vaccine. President trump, trump claims he found a cure. Let me tell you that we have 1000 people die each day. More than 40,000 people are in hospitals right now battling the virus. Lifes a 3rd piece should be just available wealthy well connected. We need to make sure theyre available to everybody available and affordable. Abide says if he is elected he would begin carrying out his plan even before hes inaugurated. The senate went into a a rare closed session on friday as democrats once again tried to delay the nominatron of judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. The latest threat and whats already been a destructive and historic fire season for us want to get the latest on the red flag warning and the forecast from dave spahr heidi well good morning marty good morning, everybody dry windy conditions are expected to really descend across the bay area throughout the day tomorrow it looks very different feels very different than that right now were talking about a little bit of fog. Heres kind of that haze going on at walnut creek to give you just an idea what its looking like outside, but that red flag warning entire bay area as a formality kicks in sunday morning at 08 00am the real dry air follows that until 11 00am on monday. Now thats the parameters for the red flag warning as of now that its organic it may be new ones may be issued later on. Temperatures also mild 50s and some 60s you will notice there 60s along the east bay shoreline and its a little warmer this morning than it was yesterday for comparison sake little cooler to the south and to the north and to give you a general idea what you expected this morning kind of the shot from u c berkeley and plenty of 50s going on cant even make out the east bay shoreline and we saw some cloud cover to contend with even as late as noon into the 60s by the afternoon, well scratch into some 70s under mostly sunny skies. Now we do have a change happening tomorrow with some dry air but even after this red flag warning is over. Were going to be banking off of a dry atmosphere through much of the week ahead gonna get into some of that coming up a little bit later on party sounds good dave, thanks. A lot, lets go to these bay this Morning Police in oakland are trying to curb the rise of gun violence. This year homicides there are up 38 compared compared to the same time last year. Well so far this year there have been 80 homicides in oakland, but police Say Community members are coming forward to help officers solve these crimes opd his message is that were all in this together and whatever they will do whatever it takes to protect the community from violence. Well take a look at this scenes like this are becoming less common in San Francisco shattered car windows and glass scattered all over the street and even though car break ins are decreasing in city kron 4 says he quit doing talk to one man who says what he saw one morning in San Francisco is beyond anything hes ever seen. Van ness between france, a scam. Nothing to see here. Nothing other than close to a dozen vehicles with the passenger windows smashed glove box is open ransacked and personal belongings emptied onto the passenger seat, waking up to the side of shattered glass on the ground from an overnight smashandgrab of a burglary is not uncommon in this russian hill neighborhood right by the who was live different 12 years says hes never seen anything like this. Yeah walk my dog to be on formation any every day and think we see one or 2 broken windows across you know through the lock. Thats been going on for more than 10 years, ive never seen an entire block. It like that. In response to the ongoing auto burglary problem, San Francisco police urge residents and visitors to park smart its an Education Campaign on how to limit the chances of a vehicle break it began working that theyre only going to be gone for a couple minutes. And well be back to our so they leave backpacks or cameras, anything visible on the seat on only takes criminals, second sometimes theres just opportunists who are walking down the street. And sometimes we get crews coming in you think about the amount of time that must have taken for all those cars and just absolutely no fear. Clearly is doing a policing this its its pretty frustrating to see us day in and day out he says he would like to see San Francisco police do something about putting a stop to it. I would like to see. It increased Police Presence at night when this stuff happens around here we constantly reassess. All the crime trends. So one district stations notice that theres more crimes happening in a certain area. Now readjust their patrol staffing in San Francisco has it made you kron 4 news. And coming up were going to be talking and lets take a look at our Weather Forecast for this weekend world wild up for a wind of and with the red flag warning and dry air this little snaps good morning, welcome back time talk weather with dave spahr were talking more than whether were also talking about that red flag warning for high winds in the bay area that i will hit us tomorrow. I did yeah good morning marty good morning, everybody, the winds are going to kind of a short burst, but were going to be left with banking off of a dry atmosphere for looks like. The entire week ahead live shot here thats coming in from half moon bay. We have fog everywhere just about even inland locations going on. But that situation is going to be changing as we head on into the future. So lets get a look at our what our temperatures look like kron 4 news true. Weve got mostly the 50s going on for right now over most of the region some 60s here and there along the east bay shoreline 49 meanwhile for santa rosa 53. For san jose. So how did the elements fair out by the time we get to tomorrow were going to have like gear shifts going on here bringing down dry air. We got our low up to the northeast of us the high to the west in tandem wendy, mild temperatures dry air thats get out of those winds now going freeze this here till sunday at high noon. There you can see all the arrows coming in from the north and the northeast. Heres the heavier winds up in the north bay. But they spill out over the east bay as well and cover the peninsula as well theres the burr still active all the way till monday morning. That subsides pretty quickly in the afternoon by tuesday. The wind part of the forecast least the Morning Hours is gone, but well be left with a very much dry air all the way through midweek looks like so that will be another little problem which to deal with as well. A drought situation we havent had much rain as we talk about and its getting worse. Were now going into the extreme category you can see extends up to about central Solano County through napa as well. Elsewhere course its severe. Now you may recall that just a few years ago we were in the exceptional category. So thats the next step along the way this week ahead, heres the dry air excuse me get out of my way it says and upstream little front tries to drop down down here by the end of next week we saw this before and were basically looking at right now basically some of that fog that we have this morning, not to anything in terms of real precipitation with it so maybe well get something out of that well see but anyway it will be a dry week ahead 65 San Francisco to the coast. We see readings at about 60 ish or so so kind of a falllike feel upper 60s lineup, the bay side of the peninsula down south a 72 redwood city palo alto 73 67 Mountain View, Santa Clara Valley lower 70s most readings here milpitas coming in at about 72 east bay shoreline to the south upper 60s Pleasanton Tri valley, youre looking at mid 70s today still got that falllike feel up to Contra Costa County conquered at 7362 berkeley, 64 for richmond up the Solano County of course in the inland areas its lower 70s but out to at 6566 benicia napa 65 71 a rose in the bottle at about 77 day forecast, lets keep it in the 70s all week remember bone dry conditions to be found to the bay will also get you into the middle 70s by the middle of the weekend a little bit cool side. Along the coast. Marty. Well pre covid being parked in front of a computer used to be an option also a form of recreation but today its entirely different. As children are spending hours in front of a computer because they have to we all know the Distance Learning has its share of challenges such as online discipline and constant distractions as well. Our Health Expert killing all on joins me this morning to talk helping your children succeed and improve their grades at the same time and care and this is such a big problem for so many parents, teachers and students across the country. We can definitely use some tips. Its quite challenge it and i feel for the parents that are trying to work well as the be teachers to their children. But what they found is this was a study by the American College of Sports Medicine that when you engage your child in vigorous activity that they increase their up a level of a concentration and also their behavioral problems also improves so all a good thing so karen of just tell us what vigorous means. Still decrease activity would be something where you are expending more Energy Something like basketball soccer are you doing a lot of running youre consuming more oxygen kaylee say that its where you can still talk but you really dont want you ok and youre at least 3 times a week. At least 3 times a week and for 20 segments so that 20 minutes is not that long you know great break in between your day and between your are as dear class sessions, so that that really breaks up the day then if you can if you can get your children or parents to get their children into that type of a routine. That maybe you have class for half an hour Something Like this and then 20 minutes of vigorous activity and you kind of break things up. It really the drudgery so to speak of what theyre having to deal with. It is because even adults trying to sit in front of the computer isnt go through lessons is a little trying so you can imagine for child whose whose Attention Span is not that great that this will this will help and and i think it would be a good solution for some of the parents that are having difficulty. Lets talk about toys because you say the toys are very important as well. Yes, and this is a study done by the university of buffalo and they looked at toy offering toy variety and that increased interest in exercise. So bottom line is you want the child to be and so when they offered them variety and choice maybe 3 to toys they were in the study they are using many basketball, many hockey being even bean bag toss and when they were offered choices and they are offered an activity that they can master yet was a key that in that increased their interest in exercising that increase their motivation and also the time that they spent suing the activity. Well, it sounds like youre talking more about physical activity like balls and things that you mentioned as opposed to traditional toys that the people that parents might be thinking about. Right active game, something that were theyre actually moving which is a good thing when youre sitting all even extra games like that sure yeah, yeah, yeah, and and now one thing to remember is that they may spend more time playing we, but theyre not expanding as much energy as they would if theyre doing the bill game right if you are playing basketball you east expend energy just chasing the ball if it goes at around so right so not as much as you would at the other bullet point we have on the list circuit training. Right so circuit training thats another way you can make it into you know set up stations of exercises body weight exercises yeah and make it into an Obstacle Course make it kind of fun, let them even choose what they would like to do have in their little circuit or their Obstacle Course to give them some choice and then make it really fun. Not only does great for kids it sounds great for parents as well could use a little saying its raining. It doesnt and where youre offered something that you can master a for adults to that thats motivation when you say i you know i little better than it was last week so thats motivation. I think bought one of the bottom lines here. Karen is that we all no matter what age we are but especially trolled children need to be active in the day. Yes active during the day because thats good for your cognitive wellbeing as well as your physical wellbeing yeah. And and when when kids are feeling, good. Theyre going to perform better in does just follows doesnt. Only does it get there theyre going to perform better so make sure you also feed them. They too dont have really good snacks. Theyre not going to be able to perform well to they go hand in hand i always say nutrition Good Nutrition and exercise. Are like 2 wheels on a bicycle both me to function well and theres really connection not only between between good food and the physical activity. But also the fact its going to help them learn as well. It isnt anything that we could help the child at this time. And help the parents at this time. Everyone will be happy. Yeah also if you can make exercise a Family Activity to so on the weekends hike something that you can do as a family and then that will also make them like exercise for and it will be tough and you can see scavenger hunts to earth theres a theres a lot of ways that you can you can blend exercise into your activities, karen. Thank you so much welcome sure to get in my so we have to get 12,000 at least thanks a lot karen have you see next week get you lets talk about floors. Floors for toddlers. Floors for toys. And coming up this morning on the kron 4 morning news the disturbing trend, the city of oakland is seen as it tries to grapple with the rising murder rates. But first millions of ballots have been cast in this years election already our political analysts explains the move benefits most from this early voting. Good morning, welcome back now to our coronavirus coverage of the u. S. Has a grim new record breaking number of covid19 cases, more than 77,000 cases reported across the country in just one day. Welcome back to 9. 14 was looking to be a really nice saturday morning. Its really nice and cool outside, but on us little chris, but i do know weve got a pretty some high fire danger that is coming for us. The rest of this weekend dave spahr standing by in the Weather Center with a yeah morning guys, good morning, feels great to start things off live shot from timber on or can we ask for more with this you Cool Temperatures with all of this going forward, but things are going to be changing. Going forward. Well start with first things first in terms of those future cast winds just give you a quick idea whats going on here. It starts up in the north bay very typical fashion. Theres the coverage you can see there Solano County heaviest winds in the north bay we havent frozen here about sunday newish as we get into the afternoon hours east bay covered peninsula, everybodys involved in this sunday afternoon overnight too monday morning. And the winds look like they will remain in place until we get to maybe Tuesday Morning or so but when all that said and done will be banking off of a dry atmosphere started things off right now. Most readings into the 20s you will notice or going in that direction even though we do have some fog going on. At least the surface here. But much happens as we go out to sunday afternoon. Whats all the fuss as you see what happens by sunday night into monday morning. You have no moisture at all. Its like were continent in terms of the middle of the continent terms were location. Okay, these are one percent relative humidity levels but look at some of the dew point numbers, their sub freezing so thats air that had its origins from the arctic which tends to be buried right warmed up by the time it gets down here. But its not real real hot air is just very very dry. Now the wind event does finally finish in lets go up to tuesdays youll notice. And these numbers really dont recover all the way up to about wednesday morning well past all the red flag warning talk and well after the wind event is over. Were still bone dry. So thats something well have to deal with as we go forward 65 San Francisco 68 for oakland, 71 meanwhile for san jose across the greater real estate numbers coming in like this. 60s weve got the middle 70s you can see in the far east bay got rosa 74 the bottle coming up a little bit well check into that 4 zone forecast for you back to you sounds good day. Thanks. A lot. Kron 4 for your local election headquarters and things are really heating up as were now just 10 days from the election. Hard to believe right millions of americans have already voted though one count shows nearly 52 million americans have already filled out their ballots and that is a record breaking number kron fours Catherine Heenan. Who is host of inside bay area politics times when our analysts about what that might mean for the president ial candidates. Yes, you know were at record numbers more democrats and republicans are pressing ballots therefore more democrats returning those ballots continually telling us that theyre going to vote late on election day there and. But looking at number thats 50 million plus 51 52 million with 85 million ballots requested. Nose or record setting numbers these are numbers that maybe dont hit 19 oh 8 6464 and a half percent but they get much closer above 60 in to that 60 low 60s. It led to whats called negative mobilization where all of these republicans plus a few swing voters come out for donald trump. Were not seeing that were not seeing that because this early vote is so historically huge. We have a warning for you before you mail your ballot. The u. S. Postal records are showing that delivery delays across the country are happening and thats raising the possibility of ballots being rejected because they arrived too late Postal Service data through october 9 shows nearly all of the agencies delivery regions missing its target of having at least 95 , a first class mail arrive within 5 days. Now these delays are a worrisome sign for voters who have still not mailed in their absentee ballots. Thats especially true in states such as michigan where ballots must be received by election day. Other states require postmarked by november 6. Kron 4 of course committed to making sure that you get your ballot counted if youre experiencing prop up problem casting your ballot. All you have do is let us know and well investigate you can email us at voting kron 4 dot com noel. President trumps going to be voting in person and his home state of florida today he will then continue on the campaign trail by heading to wisconsin for a rally on friday, he made 2 stops in florida. Where polls are showing the race is even the president held rallies there and accused joe biden of wanting to shut down the country over covid19 todays rally is going to be held at the Waukesha County airport. The Trump Campaign originally tried to hold this event at Mitchell Airport in milwaukee. But due to covid19 safety concerns and city guidelines, their airport authorities denied that request. Meantime joe biden attacked the president s handling of the pandemic and also President Trumps claim that the vaccine is right around the corner. We focus on developing safe and effective treatments and distribute a safe and effective vaccine. President trump. Trump claims he found a cure. Let me tell you that we have 1000 people die each day. More than 40,000 people are in hospitals right now battling the virus. Lifes a 3rd piece should be just available wealthy well connected. We need to make sure theyre available to everybody available and affordable. Still ahead on the kron 4 weekend morning news black robes what the Supreme Court justices wear on the bench, but wasnt always the case taking a look at the history. Taking a look at the history. Yeah, right its a tradition carried over from the british courts centuries ago reporter julie ann rugg takes a closer look. I apply lot follow the law you make the policy. Judges are not partisan gave you committed to the president or anyone else that you will vote to repeal the Affordable Care act if confirmed to the cork absolutely not i was never asked if i hadnt been that would have in a short conversation among the many topics, senators grill judge barrett about the Affordable Care act racial bias in the courts and then came the hardhitting question. About the history of the justices black robes and the beginning. Justice is used to wear colorful roads that identified them with the schools that they graduated from the Supreme Court nominee went on to say chief Justice John Marshall back in 18 oh one changed all that he decided all justices should simply wear black. To her today, the robe symbolizes this the black road shows that justice is blind most if not all justices would likely agree. Chris schmidt has made a career it can college of law studying the u. S. Supreme court one thing about the court. Its very proud of its traditions. Chief Justice John Marshall setting the tone with the black colorless road still relevant today, a unified front you might say despite the score on the board. He felt like the court to be more powerful need to speak in a single borders. So he was the one who really pressured the just the justices to issue whenever possible a single unanimous opinion and that of most of the cases he would actually write it himself so the idea of having the all black robes having things beavis personalized is very much in line with his larger agenda for the court. Poll myers, the Chicago Federal Court first female chief judge she remembers slipping on her black robe for the very first time it is such rush. And it is i think its kind of sobering you put on the face of what you hope will be. What will be decency dignity and justice and then there are the judges who couple dignity and justice with some flair. In the midnineties u. S. Supreme court chief Justice William rehnquist and its a bold stripes to his sleeves modeled after a character in a gilbert and sullivan production at least thats how the story goes. They were on display during the clinton impeachment hearings. On this vote. The yeas are 59. The nays are 41. When women were finally welcome to the high court Sandra Day Oconnor gave a feminine touch. She added a lace the year was 1981 12 years later oconnor encourage Ruth Bader Ginsburg to do the same as you can see by looking at the road thats on display. She petite but but mighty so only a for late justice ginsburg, most other justices get their roads made at this factory in salem virginia. And her collars as weve all come to know had meaning like the sparkly one area wanting or is wearing from the illinois holocaust museum. She thought the black color and the shining this and almost the spiking us of it was appropriate for dissent it came from the store banana republic. If you can believe it. Still a woman of purpose. Justice ginsburg was going to make even her robe and its successor ease count, sending a message each time she wore them i am still a woman and you are going to respect me in the role in the same way as those males who are the only ones on the court until 1981 for men and women alike a uniform representing neutrality humility and unity it shows that once we put it on. We are standing united symbolically speaking in the name of the law not speaking of ai speaking for ourselves as individuals. That was Julian Robert porting for us this morning, the black robes or tradition only they are not required a tire. It was established way back in 1861. But like many other businesses in the bay area they continue to struggle to make ends meet and keep the place open all due to the pandemic even though they are allowed to operate again, they say it still may not be enough to make up for all the business they lose because of covid19 restrictions. The reason why were on the fence because its not very Cost Effective and you open up a business to guess border see to you know one parking space. Well for now theyre making do with what they can and they hope that continued easing of restrictions in San Francisco. Well give them just enough to stay afloat heres a live shot of what our breakdown looks like 50s in the morning. Well see some 60s by high noon, some scattered clouds early on but opening up the skies been getting dry by the time we finish off the weekend and looking at that your 4 zone forecast kron 00 04am morning news. Its i 44 were back on the kron 00 04am morning news time talk a little weather. It is and we have high fire danger coming up and i didnt realize this is going to be the worst that weve seen this whole fire season dave whats going on. Well were getting also very much dry air. Its not so much that its hot and dry but its just its very very dry. Coming forward, im gonna get into that in just a bit. Right now were take a look at our temperatures here in off the kind of a cool start, you know its fall and its feeling like that, but the dry stuff, not too far from home we had 59 going on for concord at this hour lower 60s line of the east bay shoreline with 50s you can see up north driving all of this are 2 weather systems, theres a low off towards our east a High Pressure to the west pumping down that dry air from the north east so this air mass had its origins up there and central canada going on continent. Al of the week all the business so its very dry doesnt have much ocean influence and its going to a coastal location future cast winds sent us all the way till sunday afternoon things start happening look at the winds up here in the north bay Coverage Area, teens and the 20 spreading out to the east bay down the peninsula as you can see this is kind of when they hit theres enough or late on sunday night through monday morning. And then by tuesday early or into the afternoon you can see the winds really start tapering off. But well be left with dry air in its wake. Checking on our Drought Monitor here conditions got little worse up a county napa county as well exceptionally dry her extreme dry. Skews me exceptional we were that of couple years ago when all the real estate was covered by that, but its extreme as you can see Solano County napa Sonoma County but mostly in solano in northern out the countys for that as it stands now dry air playing push away stay away from me as we can see the big change thats happened in upstream, another front maybe by next weekend, hopefully that might deliver maybe a raindrop or 2, 4, zone forecast check and your saturday, 65 San Francisco to the coast. That yeah we can definitely use some tips. Its quite challenge it and i feel for the parents that are trying to work well as the be teachers to their children. But what they found is this was a study by the American College of Sports Medicine that when you engage your child in vigorous activity that they increase their up a level of a concentration and also their behavioral problems also improves so all a good thing. So karen of just tell us what vigorous means. Still vigorous activity would be something where you are expending more Energy Something like basketball soccer are you doing a lot of running youre consuming more oxygen okay only say that its where you can still talk but you really dont want you ok and youre at least 3 times a week. At least 3 times a week and for 20 segments so that 20 minutes is not that long you know great break in between your day and between your are as dear class sessions, so that that really breaks up the day then if you can if you can get your children or parents and get their children into that type of a routine. Yes and this was a study done by the university of buffalo and they looked at toy offering toy variety and that increased interest in exercise. So bottom line is you want the child to be and so when they offered them variety and choice maybe 3 to toys they were in the study they are using many basketball, many hockey jai being even bean bag toss and when they were offered choices and they are offered an activity that they can master yet was a key that in that increased their interest in exercising that increase their motivation and also the time that they spent suing the activity. Well, it sounds like youre talking more about physical activity like balls and things that you mentioned as opposed to traditional toys that the people that parents might be thinking about. Right active game so seeing that were there actually moving which is a good thing when youre sitting all even extra games like that sure yeah, yeah, yeah, and and now one thing to remember is that they may spend more time playing we, but theyre not expanding as much energy as they would if theyre doing the bill game right if you are playing basketball you east expend energy just chasing the ball if it goes at around so right so not as much as you would at the other bullet point we have on the list circuit training. Right so circuit training thats another way you can make it into you know set up stations of exercises body weight exercises, yeah and make it into an Obstacle Course make it kind of fun, let them even choose what they would like to do have in their little circuit or their Obstacle Course to give them some choice and then make it really fun. Not only does this sound great for kids it sounds great for parents as well could use a little saying its raining. It doesnt and where youre offered something that you can master a for adults to that thats motivation when you say yeah, you know i little better than it was last week so thats motivation. I think about that one of the bottom lines here. Karen is that we all no matter what age we are but especially trolled children need to be active in the day. Yes active during the day because thats good for your cognitive wellbeing as well as your physical wellbeing yeah. And and when when kids are feeling, good. Theyre going to perform better in is just follows doesnt. Only does it get there theyre going to perform better so make sure you also feed them. They too dont have really good snacks. Theyre not going to be able to perform well to they go hand in hand i always say nutrition Good Nutrition and exercise. Are like 2 wheels on a bicycle both need to function. Well and theres really connection not only between between good food and the physical activity. Thank you so much welcome sure to get in my so we have to get 12,000 at my so we have to get 12,000 at least thanks a lot karen have im jerome gage. Im a fulltime lyft driver.
