And this morning now were going to take a look at how people around the bay area are remembering the loma prieta earthquake. Some 31 years later. Good morning welcome back its been 31 years since the powerful and deadly loma prieta earthquake hit the bay area. A day that many people in the bay area will never forget more than 60 people died thousands more were injured. Damages when into the hundreds of millions of dollars the nimitz freeway bay bridge experience collapses and
San Franciscos
Marina District sustain some heavy damage. Now what many of the images youve been seen have been focused on what happened in
San Francisco and oakland. There was also distractions and in
Santa Cruz County as well and thats was closer to the epicenter. Kron fours gayle ong reports now on that from santa cruz. The shake it you see santa cruz and across the bay area lasted 15 seconds followed by a path of destruction 31 years ago mike jolson of santa cruz remembers he was on a bus took abrio college when the loma prieta earthquake hit just seeing these glass big windows break and then you know we pulled over. Again in places like walnut creek that youre seeing here will be one of those places to see the midnineties going on today were seeing some minor lifo little closer to the bay bay bridge toll plaza to see the sun join us up over the east bay hills going on here. Then tonight tomorrow morning hey get some green around the immediate bay, this is a little bit closer to normalcy for still not quite there but were getting a little closer course well have a normal drying out during the afternoon as is typical. This is right before this offshore wind has to happen. Were expecting it sometime on tuesday lingering into wednesday a little bit so theres that little 48 hour window, where there could be some problems again and then we go into an earnest cooling phase putting it all together for us still popping about 90 theyre hanging on in some locations, inland. For this week, minor cooling. Then some issues happen by mid week with another offshore event then we get to the latter portion of the week and lets get some onshore winds going here and lets reduce those inland temperatures. Below 80 thats right some areas and looking at lower 90s today maybe into the upper 70s, 78
San Francisco, though for today. 82 for open 89 meanwhile for san jose there they are still the 90s far east bay up to the north bay tool that were seeing more 80s this go around places like delay hope for example not getting that onshore wind to help keep temperatures corrected. 89 meanwhile for san jose coming up in a bit well check of the 4 zone forecast and also your extended party. The president focusing on the suburbs and small towns where he told supporters that a vote for him is a vote to protect their communities. Rescue countless millions all around the world from poverty and built the most exceptional republic in human history. Theres never been anything close. And you know what i have a little secret just in this group this small group of thousands of people. Were

President Trump

Darren Lindell at
Clemson University start seeing an unusual spike in twitter traffic recently of black republicans supporting
President Donald Trump clearly fake accounts using a lot of common language a lot of common messaging spreading a message and in support of trump and all of these accounts were whats called
Digital Black face they were stealing the images from real black americans. From you know news and from other places on the web and using those images to represent themselves in authentic his team have been doing this type of
Digital Forensics has 2016 when foreign interference disrupted the peaceful election process. In this case he tracked some 30 fake accounts or trolls back to the source what i could tell there are a couple signals that these accounts were coming out of turkey here or somewhere in eastern europe. I dont believe that they were russian ive been studying russian disinformation for a long time and. And lets just say these werent that good these these werent the a team of this information like voters currently support democratic candidate joe biden by a huge margin over trump. 83 . Swaying any amount to trump through social influence is a win for republicans. But little cautions this new frontier of social media brainwashing is a dangerous political game, large number. People within 2 particular political silos especially on the right re tweeted these accounts believing them to be authentic believing them to be who they said they were and so that really just inherent dishonesty and an inherent lie through social media and its really important conversations about about culture about politics. In this country be authentic. Well that was

Justice System specifically. Illegal sarahs sterilizations in womens when was the last time your property tax bill went down . What . Never. Are you kidding me . For years, the residential burden has gone up. While the corporate burden has gone down. Prop 15 reverses that. It closes corporate loopholes and invests in schools, small business, and firefighters. And when the big corporations pay more, your tax bill goes down. Thats right. A savings of a hundred twentyone dollars a year for the average home. Give homeowners a break. Vote yes on 15. We welcome back. Theres a shocking new documentary thats taking a look at human rights abuses within the california criminal
Justice System that film is called belly of the beast. It was directed by barry a filmmaker erica cone she uses the story of a former inmate to highlight a pattern of illegal sterilizations happen inside womens prisons. Cohen says that more anything she hopes that the film brings awareness to the fact that these are not isolated incidents. Their own reporting we found out that between 1997 in that 1400 people were sterilized in california as womens prisons, so kelly story although she is really the catalyst that exposed the rest of the sterilizations in centers around her story. She is not the only one and so this film really calls attention to the legacy of forced sterilization also in california right now theres a
Reparations Movement going on in california and you can sign the petition on our website billion the beast film dot com to support the the movement of holding our institutions and stay actors accountable, so that these abuses dont continue to happen. But why perspective of things you know were getting into the winter months so we like to show this map to show you the next shot of rain coming our way unfortunately for the week ahead. It doesnt look like its in the cards but what we can show you is these little whispers of systems that combine of the first things first we have minor cooling early in the week little bit of an offshore wind around here and then these little waves come by and get some scattered clouds the big issue for us is colder temperatures associated with them it looks like all the way into the following week looks to be dry at least in this perspective, well see if anything changes but these waves to help cool us off a little bit throw some clouds in there in the mixture as well today in the 4 zone forecast
San Francisco comes in 7874 daly city pacifica 71 74

In the southern moore and 71 for stenson beach 70 forecast again we have offshore winds working here by tuesday. Thats a short event and they start off as a red flag warning or potentially may be under fire weather watch is going to be and then we get some are schooling as we finish off the week into next eyes are going to my sweater. Well the 80th anniversary of john lennons birth took place earlier this month. And in december the world will again more in on the 40 years that have passed since john lennon was murdered in front of his home in new york city. Theres a brand new book that looks at john lennon in 1980 the year that he died the title is john lennon in 1980 play list. Team english is the author attorney joins me this morning, tim thanks a lot for joining us this morning. What made you want to focus on what made you want to focus on the music that affected john in the final year of his life. I guess i try to write a book that i would want to read i thought it was a good way of bringing out some new information about someone said so much written about him want to try to do is booking by looking at the music. He was listening to every year some new insights into what was going on and his wife died year. What was john listening to in the late 1970s and into disco and punk were starting to become huge. What did john think about that. Eli jobs, a big fan of blondie in fact he wrote a note to ring go at one time saying that he do a song sort of like blondies heart of glass. He also won blondies 1980 song of the tide is high. Found out its gone actually went to see the bow. New york club even before they had an album out probably 1977. Yeah he was a was a big fan of disco he like donna summer a lot he was interviewed in 1975 about what you see in the back and that he liked the first thing he said which okay, i think a lot of people would find that tim o what was the inspiration between behind jons creative as he had just recorded double fantasy. Well we win when you turn in the queen song crazy little thing called love was a number one hit few all that spring it was a very unclean want song as part of a rockabilly song don heard them doing elvis and thats on. He was a lifelong elvis and he said hey maybe its time for me to come back to my music its its pile later that spring years
Paul Mccartneys coming up on the radio by 2 separate accounts of people that were driving a car with someone that song came on sunday, thats pretty good and you know i was that the songwriting competition between john paul and mccartney was starts. I have a great invention of the beatles so that may been a factor to compelling him to get back in the studio. Well, you know talking talking about paul since the breakup of the beatles john and paul had been waging this so battle between them both on vinyl and also in print. You know what you mention that john light one of pauls songs that he heard coming up. What was that what was the feeling between john and on this last year of johns life. Its it gets complicated if you would listen to their interviews. They were always kind of sniping back and forth each other. By i found a couple of folks from of all. What about fall by
Robert Hilburn from the
Los Angeles Times said interviewed him in october and it talking about coming up john like the studio version is supposed to go live version of the way on said in open said you we support these we surprised that song so good, he said no how can you be surprised by your brother and then they got these final after his final interview right into the limousine with the people on the afternoon of over you on the night of december 8. They asked about all of you know families fight but were like brothers, you know, we love each other we do anything for other i think that was beneath it all. Its a great love and respect for each other. And for folks who dont have
Single Center 8th was the day that john was shot and killed that that evening in front dakota. Tell us a little bit about the influence of the bay areas doobie brothers had on john i think a lot of people would be surprised by that. Well i i interact with a lot of thought you know maniacs online you know understandably a lot of people think theyve heard it all in red at all, i actually found john had a copy of their album of minute by minute from 1978 is huge album that contained what a fool believes. And another song on there dont stop to watch the wheels and you know i speculate that i think is pretty accurate to john may have caught that title watching the wheels of 4. His own song watching wields he had been working on that song for a year or more and the title of that changed in 1979 that was originally called emotional wreck and then it morphed into watching we also speculate, but i think probably the case john got idol watching the wheels from that well be brothers song. What surprised you most about john lennon in 1980 is youre doing research for the book. I would say 2 things one was his love for yoccos music. I i kind of discovered the reason why was he why he was back in the studio just over 2 weeks after double fantasy that im out is back in the studio finishing this track. It started for yoko in the summer. Jiang and heard that permit allows club that plane joko stumble fantasy song kiss kiss kiss at the disco and john this fuss, real that did it. People in new york in the disco deejays were fined for song sydney said we got to put out a song of parts, especially for those guys, especially for disco market and thats why watching the wheels wants. The another thing i would mention is just yet. There are several times and walking on thin ice is one of cases the song songs working on the gold coast when he when he was killed. To repeat this several times in 1980 had songs that were kind of foreboding that may be impending doom yet the in vote a song called living on borrowed time that summer it was inspired by bob marley yet another song called gone from this place another one called help me to help myself which in clay and put the line i trying to so hard to stay alive, but enjoy destruction by my side. So even jaco said maybe he had a sense you something ominous was going will tend it is a fascinating read the title of the book again is john lennon in 1980 playlist him english is the author and tim. Well more and more businesses are reopening in california but theme parks are being left behind this weekend demonstrators marched outside of disneyland calling for state leaders to give the green light to reopen the park after 7 months as erin myers reports former employees say the park can safely reopen with proper precautions. Dozens of employees and disneyland supporters rallied outside of the
Amusement Park this morning urging governor
Gavin Newsome to allow the park to open and get people back to work and hoping we can generate awareness so maybe the governor can see we are humans like cast members guess the city peoples lives matter and people that cant work cant make money and they have businesses across the street closed disneyland and california adventure have been closed since march and recently the company said that 20,000 employees would be laid off im hoping. Im hoping that. Maybe this event can shake. The governor to allow us to open that the closure of the park not only affects disney employees, but others in the surrounding area, its not just to the people that work here its to the people that work that work everywhere we all have families like the governor is not allowed in the park to open but hes not supporting anybody either you like he cant have it both ways many think the park open safely and provide much needed fun during a difficult time every time you go down the street every 10 feet is new people every 10 feet is a new opportunity to like make a connection with someone that they for remember for the rest of their lives on state officials recently visited, but so far

But
Senate Majority leader
Mitch Mcconnell says the senate will take up a 500 billion dollars stimulus bill on wednesday, this socalled skinny relief bill is well short of the more than a 2 trillion dollars that
House Speaker nancy pelosi is supporting. And its the same bill that was rejected by democrats last month. Its expected to fail
Speaker Pelosi and treasury secretary
Steve Mnuchin are expected to continue negotiations over the weekend. Senator mcconnell says in addition to a vote on the skinny released bill the senate will also vote tuesday for more money for the paycheck protection program. But a similar ppp increase bill was previously dismissed by the house. Our sister station in michigan asked
President Trump if there is a possibility of
Senate Republicans
House Democrats and the white house coming up with an agreement on another
Coronavirus Relief package. I think there is a chance i think is chance it can nancy pelosi does not want to do it. She thinks its good to the election. But i think theres a chance it can happen and if it ill be leading that charge has i think it should happen. Is there a chance that that happens in the short term you think or is this something that happens after the id like it to happen and how about this afternoon maybe all delay my gym for 2 hours. Ok is frankly i could do it, but you know they they want i think
Everyone Wants it. Nancy pelosi is the one holding it up. Senator mcconnell estimates the cost of the proposed ppp program at 257 billion dollars. The ceos of

Mitch Mcconnell i dont see any way that mcconnell so far as his movable unfortunately. That was joe khalil reporting for us this morning. I did well we all know that halloween is right around the corner, but a lot of parents are still struggling to find safe ways to celebrate and also avoid covid one doctor doesnt support traditional trick or treating this year instead she is recommending small gatherings or trick or treating at home. I certainly want kids to be able to go out and have a good time and have fun with trick or treating, but i think the fact that exposing your kids to a whole neighborhood of folks who may or may not be following precautions is really a risky proposition. Well doctor strand also wants to remind parents that children under the age of 2 should not wear a mask because of concerns about suffocation
Health Officials also cloth masks and using hand yer sanitizer after visiting every house and then wearing a mask when answering the door for trick or treaters. Lets turn now to our wildfire coverage, the glass fire is now the only major fire thats burning in the bay area in remains at 97 containment and cal fire says it expects to have the fire fully contained by tuesday. Last fire has burned more than 67,000 acres in napa and sonoma counties destroying more than 800 homes. A shocking new documentary is taking a look at human rights abuses within the california criminal
Justice System the documentary is called belly of the beast and it was directed by bay area so maker erica cone she is the story of a former inmate to highlight a pattern of illegal sterilizations happening in womens prisons, come says more than anything she hopes the film brings awareness to the fact that these are not isolated incidents reporting we found out that between 1997 in 2013. That 1400 people were sterilized in california as womens prisons, so kelly story although she is really the catalyst that exposed the rest of the sterilizations in centers around her story she is not the only one. And so this film really calls attention to the legacy of forced sterilization also in california right now theres a
Reparations Movement going on in california and you can sign the petition our website billion the beast film dot com to support the movement of holding our institutions and stay actors accountable, so that these abuses dont continue to happen. Los Angeles Times said interviewed him in october and it talking about coming up john like the studio version as opposed to a live version of the way by haan said in open said you we support these we surprised that song is so good, he said no how can you be surprised by your brother and then they got these final after his final interview right into the limousine with the people on the afternoon of rk already on the night of december 8. They asked about all he said well, you know families fight but were like brothers, you know, we love each other we do anything for other i think that was beneath it all. Its a great love and respect for each other. And for folks who dont have single senator 8th was the day that john was shot and killed that that evening in front dakota. Tell us a little bit about the influence of the bay areas doobie brothers had on john i think a lot of people would be surprised by that. Well i i interact with a lot of thought you know maniacs online you know understandably a lot of people think theyve heard it all in red at all, i actually found john had a copy of their album minute by minute from 1978 is huge album that contained wonderful bullies. And another song on there dont stop to watch the wheels and you know i speculate that i think is pretty accurate to john may have caught that title by watching the wheels of 4. His own song watching wields he had been working on that song for a year more and the title of that changed in 1979 that was originally called emotional wrecks and then it morphed into watching we also speculate, but i think probably the case john got idol watching the wheels from that well be brothers song. What surprised you most about john lennon in 1980 is youre doing research for the book. I would say 2 things one was his love for yoccos music. I kind of discovered the reason why was he why he was back in the studio just over 2 weeks after double fantasy that im out is back in the studio finishing this track. It started for yoko in the summer. John and heard that
Midlands Club that plane joko stumble fantasy song kiss kiss kiss at the disco and john mistress rell that did it people in new york in disco deejays were fined songs he said we got to put out a song of parts, especially for those guys, especially from disco market and thats why watching the wheels for the another thing i would mention is just yet. There are several times and walking on thin ice is one of cases the song songs working on the go pills when he when he was killed. To repeat this several times in 1980 had songs that were kind of foreboding that may be impending doom yet the in vote a song called im living on borrowed time that summer it was inspired by bob marley he added on a song called gone from this place another one called help me to help myself which in clay and put the line i tried so hard to stay alive, but enjoy destruction by my side. So even jaco said maybe he had sense you something ominous was going will tend it is a fascinating read the title of the book again as john lennon in 1980 playlist him english is the author and tim.
