This wednesday and we will begin in kentucky were grand jury has chosen not to charge the 3 Louisville Police officers for their role in the death of brianna taylor. Taylor was shot multiple times by officers who burst into her home on march 13th while conducting a no knock warrant in a narcotics investigation. Prosecutors say 2 of the officers who fired their weapons were justified in using force because they were protecting themselves. However, former officer seen here Brett Hankinson who was fired earlier this year for his role in the shooting was charged with 3 counts of wanton endangerment which means extreme indifference to the value of human life. But this was for firing into the apartments of taylors neighbors. These long awaited charges were immediately met with frustration and disappointment. As for months protesters have pressured kentuckys attorney general Daniel Cameron to arrest the 3 officers and now none of them are facing criminal charges in taylors death. And this team, members of the representatives, the attorney generals taken a lot of criticism and scrutiny. But that screen in many ways was misplaced because there was not a day. The people in this office didnt go to sleep thinking about this case and it wasnt a day with the first thing on our minds. It is getting to the truth in this case. Now to our coronavirus coverage here in the Bay Area Health workers in santa rosa are demanding better testing and Infection Control measures amid a covid19 outbreak at multiple hospitals. Kron fours Charles Clifford has the story here in Santa Rosa Group of employees at santa rosa Memorial Hospital held a rally outside of the hospital saying that the hospital has not done enough recently. To contain an outbreak of coronavirus now back in august. The hospital says that 26 employees here and possibly 4. Patients contracted coronavirus the hospital says they did Contact Tracing and testing to try to isolate the outbreak but the employees say management here did not do enough they didnt do enough testing. They have not provided enough ppe for employees and they want more the only workers. Right, not just. A top public. And happening in parkland hospital. The Hospital Management defended their handling of the situation saying that they have tested employees they have done Contact Tracing and that their primary focus is on the health and safety of everyone here at the hospital we contact trace. We make sure that that are caregivers are taking care of wheat asked and we ensure that that there isolated go home and get better were interested in their wellbeing and making sure that they can come back and take care of our patients and our community. Now folks rallying outside the hospital today said they would like to see some changes moving forward they want that testing to be available to everyone as needed they also want a new patients to remain isolated until theyve been tested for coronavirus and they wa eryone is getting the p that they need. County Officials Say that money will go directly to landlords and that will give struggling renters more time to catch up on their rent payments tenants have until the end of january to pay 25 back of their rent and that to the east bay and Contra Costa County is extending its protections for people who cannot afford to pay rent because of the pandemic the new rent and eviction moratoriums are now extended through the end of january. The measure does offer some relief for landlords as well it converts back rent payments into consumer debt, allowing landlords to start going after that money in small claims courts, beginning in march. We do have some good news from cal fire this afternoon. The czu lightning complex fires are now fully contained this complex fire started back on august 16th and scorched nearly 87,000 acres in san mateo and santa cruz counties. One person died and another was injured in these places and 925 homes were destroyed. Lower temperatures higher humidity and less when the past 2 weeks has led to a break in the fire season in Contra Costa County. The Contra Costa CountyFire Protection district says the fire season started in early may and that the first 2 months were historically busy the Fire Protection district saw a 400 increase in grass and vegetation fires during that time period. A sign of things to come so far this year the Fire Protection district has responded to 1131 grass and vegetation fires compared to 756 fires during the same period last year, a 50 jump. Fire district spokesperson, steve hill says we have not even reached the height of the fire season which is expected next month and this year he says the season. Will likely not end until december when the rains arrive at the moment, the Fire Protection district has 4 crews which amounts to 16 firefighters providing mutual aid to other departments outside of the county. He announced today that hell stop the sales of new gasoline powered passenger cars and trucks by the year 2035. And he says the move will cut Greenhouse Gas emissions by 35 order directs the California Air resources to develop and approve regulations to meet the 2035 deadline. The agency will also have to make a rule requiring all medium and heavy duty trucks be 100 0 emission cars by the year 2045 where feasible. The governor also directed state agencies to speed up development of charging stations across the state and calls on the legislature to eliminate new fracking licenses by the year 2024. Now as the countrys most populous state california along with roughly a dozen other states make up a significant part of the u. S. Auto market so moves like this has a huge potential impact not only on pollution and Climate Change but also on the automobile industry.
