Now at 3 President Trump visits california today amid the states deadly and historic wildfires, several fires have burned more than 3 million acres. So far this year at least 20 people have died in the devastating fires up and down the state. Thank you for joining us at 3 today im Sanaz Tahernia on the campaign trail President Trump made a pit stop in california for a briefing on the states historic wildfire season. Capitol Bureau ReporterAshley Zavala explains how the briefing went up between the president and the governor actually. Its not yet. This was a very quick trip here to sacramento for the president he was only here for about 2 hours and the primary reason for his visit was to get a briefing from state Emergency Management officials on this wildfire situation here now the president approved 14 federal firefighting grant an emergency disaster declaration along with that so far this season. Trump told reporters just before the briefing he has serious concerns about californias Forest Management issues, but the federal government does own the majority of that land now in their meeting the governor agreed to agreed more work needs to be done in that Forest Management space. But he also tried to make the case for Climate Change to the president you might not expect this exchange between the 2 you should take a listen. We obviously feel very strongly that the hots are getting hotter. The drives are getting drier. When were having he dons likes of which weve never seen in our history. Hottest august ever history of the the ferocity these fires that are out 5 plus years losing 163 Million Trees to that drought, somethings happened. The plumbing of the world and we come from a perspective on glee. Where we submit the science in and observed evidence is self that Climate Change is real and that is exacerbating this and so i think theres an area of at least commonality and vegetation force management. But please respect and i know you do. The difference of opinion out here as it relates to this fundamental issue on the issue of Climate Change absolutely appreciate that. Another exchanges were very much like the one you just watched essentially the governor and the president agreed to double down on force management but the president still not making any notions toward Climate Change at least in that space now the president also went to the National Guard to give some remarks of gratitude toward the servicemen and working on the front lines and in this space here the president is now in phoenix for a Campaign Event that is expected to happen later tonight, reporting live in sacramento, Ashley Zavala kron 4 news all right ashley, thank you so much and during his own speech in delaware today. Democratic president ial nominee, joe biden has said the destruction and mounting death toll in the western United States. Will require stronger president ial leadership. It requires leadership not scapegoating. Requires a president to meet the threshold duty of the office to care to care for everyone. To defend us from every attack seen on see always without exception. Now throughout his remarks biden sought to tie together the president s response to coronavirus the pandemic and Climate Change criticizing trump for quote his disdain for science and facts. And while the hazy skies from wildfire smoke is in impacting us negatively here. Its actually helping firefighters as they fight the wildfires currently burning. Officials say smoke from fires around the state blocked the sun reducing temperatures and raising humidity. Now these changes in the weather are helping firefighters contain these fires but despite the progress. Theres concern the death toll may rise as crews reach devastated areas. And nearly 17,000 firefighters across california are working to contain 29 major wildfires burning right now in our state. So far more than 3 million acres have burned during our fire season, at least 20 people are dead. From california to Washington State dozens of wildfires have destroyed neighborhoods leaving nothing but charred rubble and burntout cars, forcing 10s of thousands of people to evacuate. The uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic weighs heavily on both of you know because we worked hard to keep in the shot queen. And making sure everything is organized and you know who knows. Tomorrow we may not be here. Im nervous a little bit that it gets pulled back again but im hopeful. All right back live now there are some restrictions on salons and barbershops stylus can only have one person one client at a time Everyone Needs to wear masks, they need to social distance they about 6 feet apart as much as possible that means you can have people in the waiting room waiting to get their hair cut and also they have to really focus on clinton us Wealth Health checks make sure everyone this feeling okay, but for now in San FranciscoCharles Clifford kron 4 news. San jose is declaring war on the blight in the wake of an explosion of trash and Illegal Dumping the mayors announcing a proposal to tribble triple the budget directed cleaning up the mess. Kron fours rob fladeboe joins us with more details hes live in San Francisco tear up. Actually here in san jose sanaas a slip of the tongue take a look behind me this painting a picture of whats going on here in san jose this is near and all that in road. This is one of trash hot spots identified across san jose, lets take a look at some video here. Crews around town this give you an idea just how bad it is 200 hot spots now a lot of this trash of course is associated with homeless camps which have gotten since the coronavirus pandemic it is but its not just a homeless camps Illegal Dumping is really up in San Jose Cruz have picked up some 45 tons of trash per month in the last several months the Illegal Dumping appliances up 160 . So the solution of this is more money more crews more dumpsters, san jose mayor sam liccardo and some of his colleagues in the city council proposing tripling the budget right now to help do something about what the mayor says is a perfect storm of trash, heres more from there. Something of a perfect all the the co impacts from covid certainly of the recession that were all challenged with their been many many factors that have led to this and quite recently fact that were not able to place many people outdoors because the Health Impacts being outside theres a lot were grappling with but what we know is that theres more we can do. And theres more were going to do in the weeks ahead. No Olympia Williams who heads up a beautiful i san jose on the mayors webinar this talk about what she called covid cleaning a lot of the stuff is the result of covid cleaning people have been home for months have a lot of time on their hands of the cleaning out the garage other doing some remodeling and then when they find out what it cost to dispose of a mattress a or no washing machine. Well, its too much for them, so they just take it out at night and dump it on the side of the street here. So part of this new plan will be to step up enforcement. Theres an illegal dump like this if you get rid of it right away then the chances are somebody else will come along and add to it so this will be a tripling of the budget up from a Million Dollars to 3 Million Dollars. The city council will consider this next week this could begin by the end of a september and so Million Dollars for october November December could go a long way to cleaning up the mess if this is approved live in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news. Although the Previous Health order allowed outdoor vehicle base Church Services lifting the 200 vehicle limit restriction is more than welcome news as Bishop Bob Jackson and thats will Gospel Church in oakland weve been on the parking lot weve been having Holy Communion services on for sunday. And it works out pretty well we have the and by then the music with the cars people in the cars and all they led the praise like we always do what were just outside according to the health order occupants of the vehicle must be from the same household and must remain in the vehicle during the event they stay in the cause and for the most part they have the windows down they have to have their masks on. Although the updated order does not allow acts full gospel to return to Indoor Church Service looking on the bright side Bishop Jackson says now that neighborhood it involved with the services with this because the pa system that we is so powerful that pumps. I guess you can hear probably 2 or 3 blocks down the street, so now everybody sing in church on sunday morning and the whole neighborhood and thats the has it made you kron 4 news. Down in the south bay Santa Clara County has moved it to the red tier on the states covid19 monitoring list but Small Business owners and faith leaders say county officials are holding them back when it comes to reopening kron fours noelle bellow listened in todays press conference and she joins us live with what they are asking for noel. Yeah fun as these Business Owners and faith leaders say they just want a fighting chance to survive this pandemic and the failing economy. They say theyre seeing huge discrepancies between which businesses are allowed to reopen at the state level versus the county level and theyre asking Santa Clara County leaders to consider a fivepoint plan towards reopening first theyre asking for the Silicon Valley coalition of chambers of commerce to be able to participate in reopening discussions with county health leaders. Second they want the county to communicate more clearly what businesses can do to allow Indoor Dining and worship to restart 3rd they want the county to clearly articulate what needs to happen within county infrastructure to support reopening. They also want the county to identify their goals and objectives without then moving those targets once theyre hit. And finally if the county is going to be more restrictive than the state requires them. They need to consider providing funding for grants for businesses. The state and the county have 2 different for safely reopening your car. Our are caught in the cross as a result. The economic problem is its huge d and getting worse every day. It now the county must clearly communicate how we can find solutions to safely reopen using evidencebased approach to limit the spread of covid19. Some of the Business Owners say theyve heard of businesses going rogue and just reopening without county approval. And theyre actually urging county officials to spend time creating more reopening protocols versus spending their time trying to find or close those rogue businesses now again, the biggest frustration is what seems to be the in consistencies in whats allowed and whats not allowed to reopen. Theyre urging the county to get on the same page with the state im going to have more on this coming up on kron 4 news at 5 as well as on our streaming service kron on you can download that for free in your app store now thank you for that.
