Is our berkeley cam one of my favorite games to share with you so you guys know what this one looks like usually it definitely doesnt usually look like this a definite orange glow to it from the city lights down below now with conditions as i mentioned not having changed much since yesterday at this time we still do have that marine layer which is shielding or lower elevations in the bay for some of the worst of air quality. Well our inland areas are looking at very poor conditions. So that smoke is still sitting right above us and you have those water droplets in the atmosphere that are going to be refracting light in a pretty similar way to yesterday so theres likely to be orange pockets and if not orange at least grey and smoky so not a good day to plan a whole lot of outdoor activities. 50s and 60s for current temperatures, we remain cool day yesterday and today with lighter winds that smoke really hasnt gone anywhere. Its going to still sit across the bay area still a very dense layer of it too and its all transported our direction from those fires up north. Now that winds have relaxed you can see this faint glow across stormtracker 4 indicating both smoke and marine layer that is just settled both across the state as well as hundreds of miles off the coast. So any sort of marine layer that pushes through is likely to be embedded in it. Some of that smoke that is settled down in the pacific as well as were not going to have a lot of relief in this forecast from the smoky conditions unfortunately. Today and tomorrow are likely to be some of our cooler days and some of our smoke, your ones too. Barely reaching the 80s for only a a couple of inland cities today. Most of us are going to remain in the 60s to 70s thats your forecast weve got robin with a look at your thursday morning traffic i nt thank you john its picking up out there we have some crowding here on 92 are checking in on the san mateo bridge which of course started backing up in the 4 oclock hour and now that were in the 5 oclock hour its getting heavier, no major trouble spots though just a little busy west of the pay gates so were averaging 12 minutes for west 92 from the nimitz over to one o one, heres your bay bridge toll plaza and the trip into San Francisco is just fine under 15 minutes from the bottom of the maze to fremont street. And no major crashes but we do have roadwork in the same spot that we had yesterday causing a slowdown along the same stretch as yesterday. This is a to the south between 9. 80 and fruitvale crews are out there blocking. Yesterday picked up at 6 oclock so we may have to deal with this another hour, its only going south the northbound direction looks fine you can definitely takes 5. 80 instead and 5. 80 to the Richmond Sandra fell right on time at 7 minutes to the north bay darya james all right, lets get to our Team Coverage this morning head first to the east bay and see if things are going to be dark again. Yeah crawfords reyna harvey live for us out in Alameda County with a look at the skies for now though we cant see too much just yet reyna. Yeah, you know i actually found a nice spot to show you guys pretty much what the sky looks like from the roof top of here. But another day of that air i got my mask or not taking no chances soaring ahead and show you here for the most part across the east bay. In the area here. All across the map. Purple air is a 100. More than a 100 a hue i for air quality we know that its going to be really bad. Today throughout the east bay and the cvb about the air quality this morning as i was driving throughout the east bay to hey were you know silly and roll fremont all the different areas as you cant really see too much is very its really clear were going to show you yesterday what it looked like go you can see here. Gray read skies also times of asked falling in the air so what can you do about it today right dont be deceived. If you wake up this morning and it doesnt look quite like it did yesterday. The air quality is a really awful and it looks like were going to stay this pattern for the next few days so if youre out today make sure you minimize your Time Outdoors also make sure that dont do any exercising for any strenuous work outside if you can. Also most important thing if you can youre out and about make sure you wear a mask james, and i am a sure i put mine on today because i have not been able to breathe out of my nose since i allergies yeah, it just exacerbates things you now and is that its just regular allergies is what you normally how. And it says back yes a lot. Right i regularly allergies and you know with the the smoke it. You know how they were talking about the small particles here in the day and you think that youre not in lead it because you does it look like you or or i lost just be careful so do you take anything for that you have an air cleaner, i know airplanes are all selling out right now. Yes, so i dont have an air filter thats a really good suggestion. Darya thats also all the list of things you can do that hey if youre watching this and maybe youre like hey. It air filter is in my budget. The calls the plug of the just lay low for today. Okay well i would say you too but youre working to get the mask and go in the car research may be to try and buy some really of rain and thank you. Yes, thank you so much. Right now not the only one out there by the way we have another live shot from san jose where you can see not much just yet obviously but were keeping our eye on the skies and the air quality in the south bay just as bad as it was there in Alameda County where rain was and heres a look at the air quality map and you can see down in Santa Clara County down around san jose looks like weve got all the indicators there in red. With those scores above a 100 which is rain explained his not that great for you so if youre an allergy sufferer seasonal allergies all the particles in the air could of to make things a bit difficult for you today so do what you can to trying to keep your airways clear stay indoors and is a very suggestive you can find them those air purifiers apparently going a long way for a lot of folks. Yeah and we heard the suggestion yesterday was keep it in one room that could be your quote a cult clean room right because you cant really use one of these portable units for the whole house, at least one room could be your you know relief room to go gets back again weve got relief from the heat not going to hot day or anything them and we should all have to open the windows to get it cooled off yeah. And dont forget to get a lot more information on our web site including a slideshow there with all the pictures of people in setting and wow look at all these. Some photographs that were taken by you thank you so much for sending those in and if this morning turns out to be the same. Well keep them coming in kron 4 dot coms and putting together this fantastic slideshow featuring your photos so send it in and well include it as part of our coverage. 5 07 is the time and still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news. The reason for all the smoke and those are the wildfires and resources are stretched thin as more fires have now broken out along the west coast where tell you where the state stands this morning. And the smoky skies causing delays at sfo and some confusion. Were going hear from travelers who are like. And after the break again like i said its all because of the wildfires were going to have the latest on the bear fire, thats the one in butte county. And that their fire did give us some of the wildfire smoke that we experienced yesterday and will continue to see today on into tomorrow too likely to see just bids the sunshine through what will be overall 5. 10 and lets continue our Team Coverage of whether or not were going to ever see the day today, or how well were going to breach today they are called been so bad kron fours will tran live on Treasure Island for us this morning. And well while Treasure Island if the if its another orange day that will be some pretty neat views from there. Yes, i actually tweeted out some pictures yesterday from Treasure Island we will find out james and area maybe in about an hour and a half from now once the sun comes up. You can see this city behind me theres the bay bridge. It is still dark so you might make out some lights again the test is when sunrise happens. Breathing not so bad, i dont smell the smoky conditions but is all that ash that was floating around throughout california in fact i think we have some video of that it turned day into night it turned just what should be what have been a hot day. I think im meteorologist were talking about it being another warm day instead it dropped about 30 degrees. All that. Sunlight was spread by the ash and it turned it, orange, it was. Kind of funny scary mysterious looking all the same time it obviously made International News as far as the breathing its not so bad the ash i dont see floating around at this time. But again we will find out just like when we were caught off guard yesterday i was outside you might recall doing San Francisco gyms reopening and it was still dark but once the sun came up everybody saw it go. All my goodness l looked like the end of days so fingers crossed it wont be as bad, but reportedly might be just a mirror image of what we saw yesterday. Ill let know, but the bottom line is. Its a funny time to be alive thats all i can say about is that really what you want to call it funny interesting and you have a lot of these games. Lets or knows todays letter knows that what im talking about its i do want to use a colorful met okay same letter yes, use you have allergies will and i think you have like me kind of like asthma. I didnt really smell smoke all day i was fine how are you doing because rain is not doing very well. I had some breathing problems i stayed indoors mostly and i got to tell you i went jogging yesterday but i really dont job with a mask. Yeah i had a mask on. So i had my mask on i went jogging and it wasnt so bad so hopefully i dont have to use the mass today, it was my workout day and almost like surfers. Dairy, you know the surfers, nothing keeps him from the waters iran yesterday and my mask on but the bottom line is i was terrified, i was careful with myself i never wear the Hannibal Lecter mask and i did yesterday hopefully it wont be so bad all that you know oh this is a great Vantage Point as far as the sunrise. I think all we need right now again to use another pop culture reference and just need 2 humpback whales from the the city of us also that star trek reference for a scifi nerds out there thank you very helpful alright, lets see if well ever are going to get any time today john you know whats interesting john and i dont know for you notices to daryn that because there was so much you know obviously smoking, whatever there. It never got up above it never got even to 70 degrees out of my yesterday it felt cool son got blocked, kind of weird byproduct john its crazy so a lot of models yesterday were showing that were going to reach the 90s inland in those models are pretty consistent based on past weather events. But what we saw yesterday was unprecedented it was something that bay area hasnt quite gotten before. So those models busted by like 30 degrees. So yet temperatures 6070s for warmest yesterday. And it looks like today isnt going to be much factors really havent changed from the same time yesterday winds remains still overnight which means that smoke remained overhead and we have just enough marine layer settled into the bay to keep that smoke just right above the bay itself. So if youre above the bay youre smelling it if youre right next to the bay youre not perceiving it as much when you are definitely getting though is an orange glow from the Berkeley Hills this morning as well just showed you air quality is less than ideal even for areas with marine layer where youre not necessarily smelling it doesnt mean that those fine particulates are in the air and that youre not breathing them in some gladwell ran with this mask on if you are heading outside for any sort of work out make sure youre doing the same as him. A High Pressure ridge to our north starting to weekend thats the same highpressure ridge that brought us the strong northerly winds that pushed in the smoke yesterday. A second one is building in now know low in here lows would lift the smoke out a second High Pressure is going to keep it with us we will see just a very weak on shore flow. Nothing major so fog is only going to intrude right along into the bay meaning that we are likely going to have an orange glow for some bayside areas. Well im anticipating for a lot of a more inland spots its going to have more of a grey look to it we are still dealing with a very dense layer smoke on top of us, so that means like yesterday not going to get a whole lot of sunshine nor heating passing through that smoke, so again most of us are going to be hanging out in the 60s to 70s for daytime highs today which is quite the contrast from where we were to start the week at a 110 degrees and above for some of our inland areas so from day to night it feels like just very different forecast to be closing out this week. Most of our cities as i mentioned in the 70s. I left a couple of 80s on the map only for for this inland spots where we are likely to at least see some maybe just a touch of sunshine at times passing through those clouds not expecting much of it though this is like going to be a very dark day yet again as will tomorrow fog and sun haze in just a mix of orange and gray that youre going to be seeing as you look outside saturday sunday come along with some modest improvements, its going to be a slow go which is little improvements as we make our way into next week were likely to see a little bit more sunshine into next week. Daytime highs will remain cool in the 70s near the bay. A little bit warmer as far as temperatures go into the start of next week. Thats a look at your forecast some slow changes out there, but it looks like we could have some minor improvements into next week over to you robin all right, thank you john, the traffic is picking up around the bay area this morning, the bridges are getting a little busy but still not bad, you have plenty of time to beat the rush which is on the way its got to get heavier for sure we have the bay bridge toll plaza 80 west coming in. Our cars rolling up to the pay gates but no problem so under 20 minutes now to make it off to fremont street, heres the Richmond Sandra fell west bound 5. 80 no problems here at the pay gates, an easy trip of 7 minutes to the north bay and we do have roadwork in oakland, we have the same problem yesterday. The some late construction at until maybe 6 oclock thats when he finally picked it up. So this morning, its back you up again 80 south from 9 ad of 2 about. 23rd or so they are still blocking so thats why you have that back up but as i zoom out the rest of the trip looks great the opposite side looks great and you can definitely take 5. 80 and use that as an alternate well check more slow downs coming up in a bit shapes. All right. Thank you very much robin time now is 5. 18 lets get back to our wildfire coverage. The reason for all the smoke now skies weve been seeing. Yesterday and today 3 people understand now dead and several others hurt in butte county after a wildfire there quickly spread. The bear fire is what theyre battling against as part of the north complex fires that began back on august 17th. Were Bridgette Bjorlo with the very latest. A lively neighborhoods now deserted all thats left wildlife wandering the empty roads, its scary just over 24 hours. The bear fire has already left its mark on butte county charring cause downing power lines and leaving homes destroyed and one 30 this morning, our foes blow up. This is you become deal, yeah, somebody all saying you need to evacuate now. And her former volunteer firefighter, peter ling didnt hes not taking any chances at all the strangers traders or loan was so its a matter of you know a lot going on the horses and in getting our time. Hes one of thousands of youth county homeowners ordered to evacuate. Feeling suffocated by anxiety of not knowing if i have a home to return to you know you get to live pins and needles this you know is this far for season, the farmers are getting worse. Some families waiting out the flames in the u. S. Center fairgrounds a big blow in the you know behind the mountain when he introduced and wade, so we got out. I have kids i have animals like to come out taking with them all that they can carry and not leaving any life behind once. Hoping to get back to their new normal soon i want to get back home like everybody else. Theres no such thing as normal in 2020 is there. Doesnt seem like it doesnt. Now to the creek fire burning in fresno county. Its now close to a 167,000 acres in size and still 0 contained and forget it broke out last week friday nights were almost a week into this and its still 0 contained. Fire Officials Say its destroyed now 360 structures so far. Lets take a look at the containment numbers on all of the fires that are burning around the bay area, the lnu lightning complex fire. Thats the one of the north bay 93 contained right now burning more than 360,000 acres, the s c you complex fires the city in the east bay and the south bay, 96 containment burned almost 400,000 acres the czu lightning complex for san mateo and santa cruz counties, those are 83 contained right now and theyve burned about 86,000 acres and the woodward fire at the Point Reyes National seashore marin county is 95 contained. It has choose through almost 5,000 acres. In california firefighters are asking nearly every state in the country to help them battle the flames, cal oh, yes says that even a few weeks ago the state could not get all of the out of state fire engines that it requested through federal programs now california is competing with the resources as other west coast states also have their foal with fire and try to deal with that the fire season is just beginning. Its going to be more houses destroyed more people impacted. As we go into that fall fire season. We have great concerns. To be able meet the demand that we have here in california. Chief marshal says that crews from idaho, new mexico, texas and utah are helping state leaders have asked for help from as far away as canada. Well windblown wildfires are now responsible for at least 2 deaths in oregon. A 12 yearold and his grandmother died an
