Well now we know that castro originally was being booked into jail and as they arrived here. He what manage while he was still in his hand cost to climb into the cargo area while still handcuffed to get access to the rear storage area where the deputy stored as weapons once he had the weapons several rounds were fired by castro. Thankfully, no one was hit. We also know that the deputies did not return fire. Now the deputy was able to get away to safety and call for backup. Thats when the gel was placed on lockdown the area near the lower ramps were evacuated here at the jail. Now the Sheriffs Office says the deputies gun was properly store take a listen. Normal. Standard protocol for any officers or deputies that are bringing someone into custody is to a drive down the ramp into the secure facility. Secure the weapon firearms ammunition and tools inside of their patrol vehicle either in the trunk or the back in a safe location and then proceed to bring the suspect into the actual facility. So this we the officers handgun what was taken thoughts are. Did follow all the proper protocol and Safety Measures to secure his weapon. And this is just an example of a very determined suspect does thats willing to do anything to get out of now they also have hostage in crisis negotiators on sina even sent a robot with a camera on it to help them see the suspect they had to break a window out of that patrol vehicle that that suspect was in the back of to be able to get him out of the vehicle. First well start with you know talking to a person educating them and most of her time in the cases that we see the people that weve talked to here, its just some simple that they forgot to put it on. And in cases where they absolutely refuse we do have options of giving them a citation its i think if we do this. And more aggressive more aggressive. In terms following this i think we can get off the watch list and then its up to the governor to lift the restrictions. Well the start of the new school year is just weeks away, but many teachers and parents in the bay area say they still dont know exactly what school days will look like teachers and parents gathered outside the Mill Valley School district yesterday demanding a more concrete plan. The district is preparing for 3 possibilities that include distancelearning in Person Learning and a hybrid model for now the school year well start off fully remote but parents and teachers say the bays are still waiting for answers as they need to prepare. Everybody agrees we want kids and educators to return to schools when its safe we just dont all agree much safe looks like. What i understand what im hearing about what the district is offering is not satisfying everybody thats going to be safe. Im concerned that has principals return on janitors return on site secretaries return on site teachers return on site kids return on site that they spread the transmission and then they go back out the community and next thing you know were getting infected by people were shopping with a whole foods. Well for now teachers will be teaching the online classes from the classroom and it still. Not clear how long the Distance Learning phase will last the Mill Valley School district is waiting for a green light from the county the one students are allowed back into those classrooms. They will be provided protective gear, including disposable face mask and touchless the monitors high grade air filters are also being installed in the classroom and handwashing will be a priority. Well to the south bay now many teachers in san jose are angry about the School Districts decision to require teachers to actually teach from the classrooms. Instead of from home. Now its part of the districts plan for the new school year and it says said by being in classroom, teachers will have better resources like strong wi fi in tech support. The teachers say returning to schools could put them at risk of exposure to the coronavirus. Ive looked at all the reasons for. Teaching from chances, and none of them seem to be enough to risk Staff Members and their family members. Well the School District says that schools have improved cleaning procedures and teachers are returning to work, well need to follow social distancing requirements. Now to the east bay were Contra Costa County says it will not allow employee Elementary Schools to apply for waivers for in person classes. Now this comes one of the states largest teachers unions calls reopening schools, reckless kron 4 Sarah Stinson live in Contra Costa County she has more on this era. Marty Contra Costa County Health Department saying its just too risky to go back to in Person Education and sat on the exact same day that the state release all the information about the waiver application process and so theyre saying were not in support of that and well be doing that quite yet and this goes for Public Private charter schools, they all have to go through a an extensive process before they even submit their waiver application if to make a thorough plan and they have to follow strict guidelines set by the state even schools and counties on the governors watch list can apply, but they have to go through more steps to get approved however until daily case rates. Decrease in hospitalizations are stable or declining for at least 2 weeks Health Officials here in Contra Costa County say they will not be reviewing any waiver requests looks like Health Officials are already working on their own guidelines on top of the states guidelines, including frequent testing for teachers and Contact Tracing know, i talked to a lot of people this morning here in lafayette and one woman told me why she agrees with what the Health Department has decided. We think its appropriate i think this intelligent until we get this under control why should we ask for more problems we dont have the vaccine yet and i think its just putting our stated risk. One of the states most powerful teachers unions is also saying it would be reckless to reopen schools meanwhile, the California Association of private School Organization says its seen considerable interest in applying for these waivers of reopening now its up to each countys Health Officer to look over the waiver application and then submitted to the state Contra Costa County Health Department saying that theyre going to continue to monitor the coronavirus cases and theyll let the office of education know when its time to start submitting those applications for now im live in lafayette Sarah Stinson kron 4 news all right sara thanks a lot for that live update robin. Even if they still have symptoms, lets check in with kron fours will tran who is live in Sullivan County with an update. Well. And robin even if they continue to test positive for several weeks after the initial positive results because they believe according to a lot of county Health Officials that that people who catch covid19 after 10 days of self quarantine that theyre actually safe to their fellow employees the customers the community and that they should be allowed to return to work and they should continue to try to get that income that they lost because of covid19 now they claim after 10 days to self quarantine yes, you will still have particles of covid19 that if you continue to get tested. For weeks on our the you more than likely will have a positive result, but it doesnt mean that youre a danger that the infectious part of that is over and theyre telling employers not to ask the employee who came down with covid19 to get a written note from their doctor clearing them that they are safe that they should be allowed to return home and that theyre also telling people dont continuously get retested because it will just clog up the system for people who need to get tests for the very first time and also not to go to the hospital to continue. Getting doctors note are talking to your doctor because they have other things involving covid19 that need their attention. A lot of people robin they reached out to me on social media, they cant believe it they dont feel safe to have a coworker come back after 10 days of self quarantine of course were talking about cases where people are making a recovery and that theyre not deathly ill and those particular cases of course and weve seen them across the country and across the world. Those people obviously are in the hospital. Back to you. All right, well trend reporting live. Thank you all. We do have some good news this morning about covid19 some key Coronavirus Health indicators in San Francisco show that did slightly improving over the last 2 weeks the number of new cases has dropped from an average of 125 down to 88 and covid19 hospitalizations have also dropped in the past week from 109 to 92. But Health Officials say that in june the number of those hospitalized was about a quarter of that. Even as we see some. Of our numbers just some of our members improving slightly we must stay vigilant. We will continue to pause are reopening. That is one likely reason for the slight slowdown in cases. Well city oicials are also focusing on feeding an ever increasing pin number of people during this pandemic combined the various agencies in San Francisco are providing an equivalent of 1 million meals a week. And now the city has announced it will be extending its great play to Meal Delivery program for at risk seniors. Through september 9th. Garcia presided over a rebound from low morale a chronic under staffing amid budget cuts and pension reform. Mayor sam liccardo and others praise chief garcia has a dynamic exuberant leader. But you know its a personal decision for everybody and then for me i feel this is the right time for me. You know is going to the police chief our most valuable resource here are men and women that do this job and so the police chief that comes in here definitely needs to balance both better communities importance and the importance of the men and women that actually put their lives on the line every single day for this job. Well, no names were mentioned, but garcia says the best person to succeed him and deal with when its ahead should be someone from within the department as for his future plans. When the pandemic is drastically changing the landscape of San Franciscos Fort Mason Center. Its virtually a ghost town kron fours taylor, the sacking reports. What was once a cultural destination prepandemic is now deserted where basically a ghost town because theres just nothing going on here inside San Franciscos Fort Mason Center. You can usually find Live Performances Art Galleries food and drinks in addition to weekly events and conventions but since the pandemic the arts schools here were forced to close their doors now at the school. Were just quote so theres no activity at all. But before we start with the activities for the toddlers in the morning. Then the school would open for less from Group Classes of one of the afternoon and go all the way till 11 at night. Overall we probably had anywhere from 700 to 800 students, each quarter dennis critter is the Program Director of Blueberry School of music which has been at the Fort Mason Center since 1978 instead of doing in person classes theyre now doing lessons on life struggling on the financial front were also doing things that we can do there are expenses wherever we can. I wont say or. Probably running at about 2 thirds. Our usual. Revenue meanwhile bats improv which provided Live Performances every weekend is now down to 20 of its typical revenue, according to its managing director in some schools wont come back at all city college of San Francisco is closing its decades old art campus here, the friends of the San Francisco Public Library also permanently close its bookstore and the San Francisco Art Institute will sublease its space the closures in canceled events have had a trickle down effect in the few neighboring businesses still open lack of conventions and renegade the craft fairs. Have really the foot traffic here despite all the closures in canceled events the businesses here remain hopeful schools like blueberry getting creative. And theyll soon begin doing socially distant Music Lessons in good morning, welcome back theres a brand new prime time newscast coming to cable on wgn america. Its going to be powered by stories from next our news stations across the country and that includes right here at kron 4. Its called news it will premiere on september first and joining us now from chicago in their brandnew studio are the anchors rob nelson and albert ramon good morning guys how you doing. And marty good morning to you good to see you tell us a little bit about the big change in news nation compared to other cable newscast viewers might be used to. I think we all know that you know you watch cable news in prime time and so much of what you get is opinion driven news, the anchor kind of give you his or her. Take on the world were staying out of that lane were kind of going back to a very basic what im calling it just the facts, maam approach to news and to do a balanced. Journalism here and not get into the other lanes of of opinion driven. More talk show format news. So thats one thing to were based here in chicago, not new york not d c were bringing this to the country from the heartland which i think is a different perspective and a chance to kind of maybe shine a light on stories otherwise would be forgotten or or overlooked so those are 2 things i think we really will make a stand apart and its a much more of a local news format on a National Stage great weather coverage from mister ramon here yes, so the Weather Center is right behind us actually want to take a look at this beautiful studio this issue 3 here. At wgn tv in chicago, this set floats around theres about 5 different positions that we can use it telling that the big stories of the day and if the big story like we saw the last couple of days is weather related like hurricane isaias thats what were going to focus in on you should see the first 20 minutes of the newscast. Theres so much news and theres a lot of news out there thats getting lost on a daily basis by by the other guys that are really honestly only focusing on a handful of stories expect salute very very different and broadcast for sure one other thing thats different about this is that youre going to be using reporters from across the country. Absolutely nexstars blast in a couple of ways number one, a 110 news rooms local tv stations across the country at 5400 journalists across america. So that is a huge.
