Protests in cities all across the nation including here in the bay area this is video we received from a viewer just an hour ago this is in emeryville you can see dozens of people running towards a best buy store there. We are also hearing that there are protesters at a target store in the same area in emeryville we are working to confirm with Police Exactly what is going on there, but you can see there is a lot of Movement Activity were not seeing any looting at this point. But nonetheless were waiting to get in touch with police thank you for joining us at 9, im pam moore and im ken wayne, the protests are in this response of course to the death of george floyd. The black man who died in minneapolis after a Disturbing Police arrest was captured on video. This is the video at the center of the National Outrage and shows nowfired Police Officer Derek Shaaban with his knee on floyds neck for almost 9 minutes. Shaaban has been arrested and is now charged with 3rd degree murder. And manslaughter. Violent protests have rocked america from coast to coast even as cities which are not really known as hotspots of civil unrest. You look at the protests that are happening now there are still crowds out tonight weve seen demonstrators clashed with police all day long darryl forges a standing by live in minneapolis which is the epicenter where all of this started where mister floyd was killed of daryl, we understand that the Minnesota National guard is now expected to send in 10,800 troops to tackle protests just yesterday friday there were 700 of those troops are you starting to see an influx of those National Guard yet. Yeah and we we saw the east really felt that we saw those National Guard troops come in there was a lot of them when they came earlier behind me at this site theres a curfew those implemented at 8 oclock and because people are not abiding by the 8 oclock rules. Thats when the National Guard on top of Law Enforcement k behind to the spot and started pepper spray as well as tear gas out into the area just get people to disperse from the area. If you look really closely right there thats the National Guard a Law Enforcement action exiting that area now as we speak they have completely clean up this area. Protesters and pam i want to show you what we been seeing for the aftermath since then this area over here was actually a medical tent right there was a medical tent getting for providing food for people you can see some of the food down here. Offense you can see bottle of water. Thats been unused and so. This will be even seeing a its been mostly a peaceful protest. Pam people not really. Getting confrontational policing see the sign no justice, no peace but overall. The Law Enforcement wanted to implement and enforce at 8 oclock curfew mainly because of what weve been seeing. For the past few days overnight. A lot of looting and a lot of fire to certain places and Law Enforcement basically said they did not want to tolerate that anymore thats why theyre really force in the 8 oclock curfew and weve seeing it not only here but all across the country but he was seeing right behind me people are cleaning up and also protesters coming back because they say that they are still going to continue to protest until all 4 of those Police Officers are put in jail tarot can wait here i want to ask you about that the mindset and i know you cant talk a group as a whole because there are so many different individuals with different kinds of thoughts about all of this but just the general prison pervasive mood of the people there tonight. How do you think they feel about whats happened. Over the last few days in and where theyre moving from here. As you know one of the officers, the main office of the had his knee on the neck of a of george floyd is in custody facing 3rd degree murder charge as well as a manslaughter charge. But the Committee Says that is just not enough in fact they believe he should serve. Be charged with a seconddegree murder charge in the first degree murder charge and when it comes to the 3 other officers who are still running free. They believe they need to be in custody. And held accountable as well so the people here say theyre going to continue to protest continued to have their voices heard, lets all 4 officers are in jail because they think that its important to get justice for george floyd darryl forges live for us in minneapolis tonight, george daryl thank you very much for that report. Former democratic president ial candidate and minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar is pleading for people to stay home. She says many of the protesters causing destruction in minneapolis. Dont even live in the state of minnesota and that theyre coming for quote bad reasons. Theyre not part of our state and theyre coming from the outside. So what we are asking today is that people of goodwill. People who believe in justice. People of faith of all face in our community that they stand together and these actually stay at home but stand together in that way weve been through a period of isolation already through this pandemic and we know that we cant gather like we once did. But today and tonight, the gatherings and some of those people that are part of it. It is not for goodwill. Klobuchar has been considered a possible pick is joe bidens running mates but that prospect now seems bleak because of the death of george floyd the incident has renewed scrutiny of her record as the top prosecutor in minnesotas largest county including how she did not prosecute a number of minneapolis Police Officers involved in shootings. Many democrats say they will question bidens judgment and commitment to black voters if he picks klobuchar as his running mate california senator Kamala Harris says unfortunately there is nothing new about the recent protests. She says people are in pain because they are not getting the justice they deserve. She talked with cnn today specifically about the unrest in los angeles where demonstrations quickly became violent. Look this is what happens when whole communities of people have not received justice and the pain is real and its legitimate you know in district of los angeles 30 years ago. Look the same way in terms of the protest around rodney king and not much has happened since then to really the circumstances and is still a fact in america that we have 2 systems of justice, you know when you look at michael flynn, our roger stone who won pleaded guilty. The other was convicted, but yet they they basically let all and but yet you have a george floyd or arbery our brianna taylor. Not receiving and their families not receiving justice to the outrage of the pain thats real and its legitimate and we need to acknowledge that. A curfew went into effect in los angeles an hour ago at 8 oclock originally that kirby was only for the downtown area, but the mayor expanded it for the entire city and the mayor Just Announced the National Guard will be deployed overnight. Senator harris says she was among the protesters who were outside the white house today. President trump was not in washington for most of the day he was in florida for the first astronaut launched by space x and nasa. There the president said law abiding citizens have a right to be heard. But he will not tolerate quote, angry mobs. In america justices never achieved at the hands of an angry mob. But apparently there have been confrontations with 12 officers injured so far tonight in las vegas again this on or near fremont street. In downtown las vegas. And we also have video is that right we still have some pictures from los angeles to show all right this is in los angeles where fire crews are trying to put out of massive fire were not given an address on where this is happening most of the streets are empty except for the emergency crews on the scene there as we told you earlier there was an 8 oclock pma curfew in los angeles that was centered in the downtown area at first but then mayor Eric Garcetti expanded it for the entire city of los angeles under and 8 oclock curfew and this is happening in the grove at the Fairfax District of los angeles kind of the midtown area can was referencing the e there were many. Demonstrators out on the street earlier again the streets pretty much clear but the city has called and the National Guard, they will be coming into la overnight to this area seems to be clear protesters as the fire crews try and put out this blaze burning were not sure what that building is it does appear to be commercial and not residential. We want to move now to bakersfield another place it has been seeing a lot of the activity today in yesterday a man was arrested for driving his car through a crowd of protesters, injuring a 15 yearold girl. Tonight you can the top middle of your screen and officer inside an Armored Vehicle as the hatch open. The cameras start man on that area right there and it looks like theres some kind of a standoff right now with the face to face with police in the middle of the street in bakersfield again another city that were not used to hearing about a lot of civil unrest. Yeah, we were just talking about that is this murder this killing of george floyd really has struck a nerve in communities where we dont see unrest. We. So earlier some pictures from Salt Lake City of buffalo new york places where kansas city even las vegas is not known as a hotbed of civil unrest up when these kinds of things happen. Nonetheless of people are pouring out into the street all over the nation taking a stand about what happened to george floyd and many cases risking their own safety to defy police and make a statement about how they feel this was handled were going to continue covering developments across the country and in the bay ar our breaking news continues. We want to take you back to los angeles where fire crews are trying to douse a major fire in a commercial district this is happening in the grove Business District on long on melrose avenue. Thats a retail and restaurant area kind of in the fairfax area of la kind of a midtown if you have any familiarity with. Los angeles you can see most of the protest at least as we see in this shot the protesters have been cleared away as the fire crews try to battle this blaze. We can see exactly what this business is that this is a commercial building. It appears and that there does not appear to be any buildings in this particular area. Were going to continue to monitor this situation as well as other locations around the country cities across the country that are seeing the demonstrations tonight, a call for justice turns violent in the bay area want to show you video of yesterdays protest ins downtown san jose. Where demonstrators clashed with police those demonstrators much like others across the country. Were expressing anchor toward the killing of george floyd a black man in minnesota who died after a Police Officer put a knee on his neck for almost 9 minutes lloyd was unarmed the protesters also damaged several built businesses in san jose.
