Were also seeing of course the very latest who with the efforts there to keep everything safe at the refinery itself where we saw a huge explosion yesterday fact we have some video to share with you this morning look at this fireball and right there is though top of o refinery tanks literally getting blown off other 2 big tanks of ethanol. That exploded in a do were destroyed in this fire. Forced to shelter in place thats over 80 is open againright now were given very latest from will tran hes in crockett where a press conference just started lets live that now. You can see the charred hillside here. Steve hill with the Contra Costa CountyFire Departments and he just started the News Conference about 30 seconds ago that will open in the next hour. You may be able to see in the background yours may be able to see that we have a team in the facility now assessing it we got in first light and theyre assessing the situation in daylight. So here are the details. We have 6 fire apparatus on scene right now. 2 of them are being provided by p a thats the petrochemical. A mutual aid organization. And theyre writing to chief officers. Theyre from a marathon and our industry partners. In this incident, the other 4 engines. Fire engines and kreis our from Crockett Park keane is fired. Department and the rodeo hercules Fire Protection district. They will remain on scene the. The situation is completely mitigated and theres no threat of a occurrence of the fires. We dont know exactly when that will be jobs throughout the day today. Keep those foam blanket, so we talked a lot about yesterday on top of the of the tanks that were destroyed. In those to ensure we dont have a rekindle of those fires. One of the things the team thats the Assessment Team thats in the facility right now is doing is there looking at a solution to mitigating the paper emissions that are coming off of goth of both of where the tank locationsorkers as you describe that whats happened is the tanks where does the 2 tanks that burned. Were. More or less destroyed in the in the fall ayers you can see them actually behind. And the secondary containment facilities which are earthen berm around those things are now holding the remainders of the materials that are in. Teary uls ethanol in both cases. Were keeping foam both of former tank sites to ensure we dont get to rekindle and thats what those firefighters are doing there today there is no longer need to call the adjacent tanks which doing all day yesterday. Another thing that this Assessment Team is doing is and a new stars part of is determining how to remove the materials in both of those containment structures down there. Which will then completely mitigate the risk of fire. Were also examining the infrastructure see what the possibilities are in terms of removing those materials because so that infrastructure, the pipes and valves and that sort of thing work damaged in the fire worse. There is one we talk a lot of yesterday adjacent tanks that were were concerned about that. Particular we have some concerns about the Structural Integrity believe that is safe. We want to make absolutely sure that Assessment Team was in there looking at that. The rest of the attacks we were concerned about all day yesterday. We determined are. They maintain their structure theyre safe. Cal oshas on scene with that Assessment Team and were making determinations now about next steps. I expect soon after this probably get an update from that Assessment Team and well probably do one more they later this morning. The fire the entire incident is under investigation at this time con fires Fire Investigation unit is leading that investigation. Imagine will be some determination about what other agencies be involved, but its a little bit early. And i anticipate youll probably have questions about the cause fire. Will overnight there was one firefighter who sustained minor injuries. He was treated and he was a chevron firefighter. And he was treated by chevron and released. With that with that i will take questions. I dont know the exact extent of his injuries they were related to the actual feet in the fire. I dont have the specifics with this fire something that. Caught you off guard is not every day you see a refinery fire of this magnitude. Did you prepare for it. Well as couple questions in there. We always plan and prepare for the unexpected. But id be hard pressed say that were were expecting this to happen yesterday. We do plan a and train our industry partners. As your viewers probably know we have a lot well oil related infrastructure and facilies across country costa county. And so we 5 various fire jurisdictions in this case it was in this fire department. They work very closely with those industry to include the scenario of a fire which of course we had yesterday. So i would you know that it was going to explode of us so fortunate that there are no firefighters even near that location, it appears when the explosion happened. Well we had we knew we i talked a little bit but about that yesterday couple we work hard to strike the appropriate balance between restore firefighters outcome that were going to achieve in this case it was pretty much a defensive fire. But we were concerned about the magnitude of about and the possible explosion. Parts of this facility and so firefighters are in the facility when we did have that incident with the one tank. It was a fairly dramatic video. Firefighters worked sufficient distance that they were safe. Well there are concerns that infrastructure not just the tanks, but the piping in the valves that are also should with this facility and moving them. And do it out of tanks and may have been damaged. We havent had a chance to see. Theyre now assessing those and i hope that more of that later i dont have any information on whathe status of all and steve what about the earthquakes. The recent earthquakes that they play a role at all. Its too early to its too early. We estimate from new yesterday e being was that there were approximately 250,000 gallons ethanol. Before the fire together and i dont know the mix between the 2 things. From that i dont i dont have that number. At this point i can say that there is no Ongoing Public Health threat. All thats being assessed right now it depends on the state of that infrastructure. One as the 2 former tanks it that area that they were holding are now being contained by the secondary containment facility, the dikes around where the tanks were and then we have a 3rd tank that a little concerned about the Structural Integrity want to make sure that it wasnt damaged.
