that cold air very dry air behind got all that warm moist air coming up on the south and they combine a really the atmosphere wants to turn itself over all that hot air wants to shoot upward. well that cold air sinking and that's when you generate these big time thunderstorms outside that we're seeing tonight. tornado watches continuing some warnings also you can see. numerous tornadoes on the ground being reported here the south near midland you can see stretching all the way up north of abilene as well and that continues that trend for the north all the way up into oklahoma tornadoes on the ground tonight and they've got a long way to go before this is all done in fact, here's the very latest forecast models we'll see what happens here is just a really slow-moving system because of that the damage in the size of the tornadoes can be tremendous, but look at this next line expected to move across into tomorrow morning. see it all away and arkansas that strong line of storms moving on by certainly capable of producing will likely produce more tornadoes overnight tonight and into tomorrow we're dealing with an entirely different situation we've got an active weather pattern of course we're just talking showers and some thunderstorms. some of those developing tonight to numerous lightning strikes up in near redding and that will be making its way to the south into the bay area. so tonight certainly a chance of some more rain drops coming our way plan on it overnight with a chance thunderstorms to scattered showers tomorrow and the storm door really has just opened usually the jet stream has moved well to the north as high pressure is built in this year. but that's not the case in fact that jet stream looks like not only is the state of the south for tomorrow. maybe all the way until the end of the month. thank you lawrence. >>in the east bay teachers in union city and parts of hayward walked off the job today, 80% of the students stayed home in support of the teachers and so far the teachers union and the new haven unified school district have failed to reach a contract agreement for charles clifford has details. >>union city on monday 600 teachers are out on strike following the breakdown of contract negotiations between the teachers association and the new haven unified school district. the teachers went on strike at 7 o'clock in the morning on monday at 12 schools in union city and also south hayward the main negotiations appears to ct be wages. this got the teachers association is asking for a 10% wage increase over 2 years. the school district says they don't have that money in it countered offering a one percent raise the one-time 3% bonus. now teachers were here today saying that they're upset with how the school district is handling this is it a slap in the face you know that the percent off the schedule that is basically what a lot of us are looking at >>right it doesn't do anything for us it doesn't do anything for our colleagues in doesn't do anything for our salaries going forward. it doesn't even tie in they wouldn't tie it at 3% it wouldn't tie in to our retirement. >>now the school district says they would like to pay teachers more, but it is really a financial situation that basically they don't have the money we've lost a 1000 students over the last couple years and 3.50 just from last year to this year. each of those kids represents a reduction in funding. so our income every year our revenue every year is decreasing the school district says the classes will be held during the strike. administrators and substitutes will be teaching those classes. students will not be paralyzed that they don't attend class during the strike. there is some concern among students that having a strike this close to the end of the school year could impact there grades also at this point we don't know when the teachers association in the school district will return to the negotiating table. and union city charles
