(grant) in the north bay -- the board of trustees of the dixie elementary school district continued discussions today about possibly changing the district's name... which some find racist. the board discussed existing proposals regarding a name change that include: surveying the community on the issue, selecting a committee to manage the process, selecting a citizens' committee and drafting a resolution that commits the board to change the name of the district and an elementary school. the full cost of the name change would be privately financed. proponents of the name change say the word dixie is associated with segregation, white supremacy and segregation dating back to the civil war era. opponents argue the district was named after mary dixie, a miwok indian woman who had ties to james miller, who built the first schoolhouse in san rafael in 1849. (vicki) in the south bay... the santa clara county district attorney has decided ánot to file charges against the officer who fatally shot a man back in september of 2017. the d-a says that the officer acted to protect himself when he shot jacob dominguez. investigators say that dominguez was a known gang member and had refused orders to keep his hands up. police found a folding knife in his car and investigators say he had methamphetamine and p-c-p in his system when he died.
