(j.r.)pam, catherine this is a story that just breaks your heart. neighbors tell us that one of the kids was just 5 and the other was 7. tonight this is still an active scene. the parking lot is roped off and detectives are busy at work trying to figure out what exactly went down here.the condo where this happened is located upstairs in this building. you see all the lights on. a neighbor who was here before officers arrived was told that the husband came home to find the kids were dead from suffocation. the wife found hanging. officers arrived around 12:30 this afternoon and have been working the case ever since. here is what a neighbor and friend of the family had to say earlier this evening.trt: :17oc: last summer(jr)back out here live officers are still on the scene...two vans that appeared to be with the coroner's office left here within the half hour. live in san jose, j.r. stone kron 4 news. ... (pam) another big story tonight... after sacramento police arrested 84 - people monday night, during a stephon clark demonstration ... including journalists and members of the clergy... many people are now criticizing the police department... questioning if those officers overstepped their authority. many legal experts say, it is unlikely everyone in that group will be prosecuted.. because it will be difficult to prove that anybody did something illegal which they could properly be punished for. although there are allegations that some in the crowd were keying cars... experts say, the majority of those arrested have been charged with refusing to dispurse ... but lawyers say they may not have even heard the order.. the sacramento office of public safety accountability says, it has gotten several complaints from members of the public about monday's mass arrests... and will conduct its own investigation into the incident. and state lawsou after th profile shooting death of stephon clark. since saturday... the sacramento county d-a... and the state attorney general have both said that the police officers who shot the un-armed man... will ánot face charges. and now... in reponse to clark's death... two bills are being discussed... that are designed to reduce police killings. our grant lodes is here to explain what could be changing. (grant) sacramento area assemblyman kevin mccarty is a cosponsor of ab 392, a proposed law inspired by stephon clark. the bill aims to only allow police to use deadly force when there is no other reasonable alternative to prevent serious injury or death and makes it easier than it is now to punish police who don't meet the standard. "i think the attorney general did his job to the independent investigation, but the big takeaway i got from him--he said he did the investigation, he followed the book. well maybe we need to take a look at those rules and the book. (pam) disturbing new details about a stabbing attack ... involving a stanford university admissions officer. (catherine) it happened early sunday morning in san francisco's protrero hill neighborhood. kron 4's dan kerman was at the hall of justice where the suspect made his first court appearance today. james shirvell, an assistant admissions officer at stanford made his first court appearance wednesday accused of attempted murder, assault and domestic violence in the brutal stabbing of his girlfriend. in court it was revealed that shirvell stabbed his girlfriend multiple times in the upper part of her body after the two had taken l.s.d. this was the 4th time they had taken lsd togehter and during the proceedings shirvell's attorney argued this violent attack was completely out of character. sot eric safire/shirvell's attorney :32there is nothing in his history that shows any reason for a pshycotic break, i think it was a bad acid trip shirvell's attorney argued the judge should set a reasonable bail, so he could be released to his family and friends pending trial. in his parents and the victim's parents sat next to one another in court, and the mother of the victim read a letter from her daughter absolving shirvell of any wrongdoing. the letter said"i fell in love with james because of his pure goodness... james was not at all aware during the incident.... he was possessed by another force and had no intent to do me harm.... this was a horrific incident that doesn't reflect his true character.... he is still the best thing that has ever happened to me."but the district attorney's office argued for no bail saying they still don't know what caused this attack, was it drugs, was it a mental break, was it something else. sot alex bastian/asst. district attorney 1:26we want to be safe rather than sorry and at this juncture we dont have sufficient information as to how this incident unfoldeed we want to make sure to do everything we can to preserve the well being of our counorder psychiatric evalucation, in the meantime he remains in the county jail with no bail standup dan kerman /sf 146the suspect is due back in court march 13, the victim remains hospitalized. at the hall of justice in san francisco, dan kerman kron 4 news 4 news (catherine) now to our four zone forecast....taking a live look outside at s-f-o. (catherine) the number of measles cases in the u-s this year continues to rise... the c-d-c says at least 206 cases have been reported since january first. and now - san franciscovis reporting its first casein more than a decade.. kron's sanaz tahernia has more.. the measles virus has made its way to the bay area...there are now 3 confirmed cases of measles... one in san francisco, one in santa clara county and one in santa cruz countyback in february, a passenger - who already had the virus - was on an international flight headed to san francisco. two other passengers on that same flight were exposed and are now sick with the measles - sot - whats happening is internationally people aren't vaccinated and either rpeople here travel to those countries and get exposed or someone from those countries comes here and brings itwhile most people in the u-s are vaccinated, there are some that are not. it's a highly contagious virus - and because measles is prevalent in countries like brazil, israel and much of western europe, getting the vaccine is incredibly important. after you've had the mmr vaccine and mumps measles rubella you're good for life you don't need a booster after thatit takes 3 weeks for measles to develop - and symptoms start off similar to the flusot except youre sicker than with influenza, then usually after three days you break out into this rash and it starts on the chest it spreads to the face and down the arms.and if left untreated, it could be deadly...sot - what happens iwth measles is it causes so much damage in the respiratory tree and lungs and airways that we wind up getting secondary bacterial infections and that's what kills people, pneumonia is the most common thing.while there are 3 confirmed cases of measles, according to the san francisco department of public health, the risk of contracting measles at this point is very low, and if you've ever been vaccinated, you're immune for life. in berkley sanaz tahernia kron4 news coming up at eight ... caught on camera... a man asleep at the wheel while his tesla is in autopilot ... tonight.. witnesses say, this is not the first time this driver has done this ... we'll explain... also - rain in the bay area means snow in the sierra... the damage one person is dealing with.. and up next ... it keeps getting worse for singer r-kelly... he had an outburst today on national television... and he is now back behind bars... why he was arrested this time around... ... < "i didn't do this stuff. this is not me. i'm fighting for my (bleep) life."> (catherine) the beginning of what turned out to be another very bad day for r&b superstar r=kelly.(catherine) just hours after his outburst aired on cbs this morning ... the singer was arrested for failing to pay child support.(pam) kelly was charged last month with 10- counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four women.... three of them reportedly underage at the time of the alleged abuse. grant lodes has the latest on kelly's rapidly mounting legal problems. r. kelly arrived at the cook county courthouse in chicago for a child support hearing. his publicist says he was prepared to pay 50 to 60 thousand dollars ... but the judge told him he had to pay the full amount owed ... 161=thousand dollars.and until he does he'll sit in jail.the publicist said kelly didn't have the money because ha hasn't been able to work.last month he spent a weekend in the cook county jail after his sex abuse arrest.someone paid his 100=thousand dollar bail and he was released.his attorney said at the time that the singer's finances were, quote "a mess."on cbs, kelly exploded. (inaudible yelling). 30 years of my career. y'all trying to kill me. you killing me, man. this is not about music. i'm trying to have a relationship with my kids and i can't do it. y'all just don't want to believe the truth." (catherine) jeopardy host alex trebek says he's been diagnosed withstage 4 pancreatic cancer. in a video posted online today, the 78-year-old told his 'jeopardy!" fans about the illness.. he says it's part of hispolicy of being "open and transparent." trebek said he knowshis prognosis is not good..but says he intends to fight it and keep working. he maintaned his sense of humor...joking that he 'has' to beat the odds - since his jeopardy contract covers another three years. (pam) a couple of residential burglary suspects brought a large handgun to the scene of a break-in ... in the east bay suburbs according to police.(catherine) the two men are suspected of targeting a string of homes... investigators gave kron4's haaziq madyun a closer look at the two men they're looking for. alter o'grodnick/bre ntwood police department: "this suspect here is the one that was observed holding a semi-automatic pistol in his hand while committing the burglary">brentwood police lt. walter o'grodick is showing surveillance images of a pair of men who allegedly committed a series of three residential burglaries monday between 9am & 4pm. one burglary in the deer ridge neighborhood and two here in shadow lake. lt. o'gronick says it has been a while since he has seen burglary spree in brentwood, especially one involving a firearmsot talking about getting firearms themselves">lt. o'grodnick says luckily no one was home during these burglaries. he is asking for the community's help to track these two men down. they are described as either hispanic, asian or pacific island males in their 20's. there is no suspect vehicle information. sot difficult traffic conditions. another round of storms is expected to hit the area again soon.. (catherine) tesla declined to comment on this video.but they've said that autopilot is intended for use only when there's a fully attentive driver with hands on the wheel. (pam) roughly 2,200 lightning strikes lit up the sky over southern california.. the strikes hit areas from santa barbara .... all the way down to los angeles... the lightning storms prompted the national weather service to alert people in the area .... to take precautions... experts say, the surge is likely due to a phenomenon called the "atmospheric river" that is where a jet stream pushes a plume of tropical moisture southward... resulting in heavier rainfall..
