( james ) new this morning a patient is back in custody after escaping a psychiatric hospital in san leandro and carjacking one car before trying to car jack another. last night the man escaped from john george psychiatric hospital on fairmont drive. he then went to the fairmont hospital... got into a car and hit a teenage boy who was in the passenger seat. he then tried to take off but crashed into a garbage can. he then got out and tried to get in another car. police say he bit an elderly man but could not get the keys so he took off running across interstate 580 where he was hit by a car... but he was able to get up and keep running. police eventually caught up with him and he was taken back into custody. ( darya ) happening now... police in gilroy are looking for this man. 20-year-old jay vasquez is a suspect in a homicide investigation. police say jason contreras was shot and killed back on novemebr 29th. an arrest warrant has been issued for vasquez. police say he should be considered armed and dangerous. ( darya ) police in menlo park are looking for man who is wanted for attempted murder. a man was shot last month in menlo park but police have just identified the suspect. he is 24-year-old dagoberto (dag-oh-bear-toe) franco- penaloza. he also goes by the name of gustavo torres. police say he has ties to menlo park and palo alto. an 11-million dollar warrant has been issued for his arrest. police say he should be considered armed and dangerous. ( james ) happening now... investigators are trying to identify a body found in sunnyvale. it was spotted by a bicyclist in the water along the san francisco bay trail. a dive team was able to recover the body. at this point - there's no word on the circumstances leading up to the death. ( james ) a 16-year-old boy is in juvenile hall... accused of bringing a stolen and loaded gun to school in fairfield. it happened wednesday at armijo high school. police say the gun was taken during a burglary in faifield. no threat was made to the highscool. the teen is facing gun charges. he's also accused of bringing marijuana to school. ( james ) some east bay parents are worried their school district will close their school... and transfer their kids as part of a plan to meet next year's budget. bidwell elementary in hayward may be on the chopping block next year. the hayward unified school district may combine a few schools in the area ... which could lead to the possibility of bidwell being shut down. even though the district is just exploring ideas.... parent's here are still on edge. ( darya ) san francisco police release video of a police shooting... in which an áunarmed man was killed. police received a report of a robbery and carjacking on 23rd street last week. they say the suspect -- keita o'neil -- grabbed a set of keys from the victim... and drove off in a california state lottery van. police were able to find o'neil driving on highway 1-0- 1. police say the van exited the freeway in the city...then slowed down. o'neil jumped out... and ran toward a marked s-f-p-d car. the officer sitting in the passenger seat shot o'neil... from the car. o'neil was taken to the hospital where he died from his injury. the officer who fired had activated his body cam. the officer driving did not. the district attorney's investigating the shooting. ( james ) some east bay parents are worried their school district will close their school... and transfer their kids as part of a plan to meet next year's budget. bidwell elementary in hayward may be on the chopping block next year. the hayward unified school district may combine a few schools in the area ... which could lead to the possibility of bidwell being shut down. even though the district is just exploring ideas.... parent's here are still on edge. ( james ) the hayward school district is facing a tough budget next year due to growing retirement contribution rates. there will likely have to be cuts made somewhere. they are looking at all possiblities... including staffing and salaries. no decisions have been made yet. ( darya ) in the north bay... police are trying to identify this man... wanted for snatching a purse from a 92-year-old woman. it happened wednesday in novato -- inside the safeway on diablo avenue. the victim had her purse in the child seat of the shopping cart... and was reaching for an item on the shelf. that's when the man grabbed her purse and took off. the purse was found nearby. but all of the woman's credit cards and her cash were gone. ( darya ) police are looking for a third suspect... after a robbery targeting a priest. the crime happened wednesday at saint mary's college in moraga. one person held a classroom door open while the other person distracted the priest and stole a laptop. the thieves got away. but police were able to trackdown their jeep near the holy shepard lutheran church. police caught two of the people in the car. but one is still on the loose. police were albe to give the laptop back to the priest.
