Reporter Hurricane Nicholas was a rainmaker and there are areas of high water throughout Southeast Texas, but for the most part, damage was minimal, and stormweary communities are breathing a sigh of relief. Nicholas roared ashore along the Texas Coast as a category 1 hurricane overnight with winds gusting to 95 miles an hour. A Path Of Destruction was left behind, damaged buildings and stranded drivers. South of houston, lowlying areas flooded after a nearly fivefoot Storm Surge and heavy rain. But the city itself was spared. This storm could have been a lot worse for the city of houston.
