What dangerous and serious situation. Reporter the Bay Area is home to more than 60,000 afghan immigrants. This is one that is a humanitarian crisis. And we need people to know we are there for them as community cities and leaders. Reporter as they drove from their home in sacramento to san rafael to make a personal plea looking for answers. Tonight he and others are heading east to make a trip to get some answers. We do expect updates later this week. Forces have airlifted more than 25,000 people out of afghanistan in the last few days. The situation remains the attic outside of the kabul airport. They have enlisted commercial airlines to help and efforts including american, delta and united. They are not expected to be in kabul, but they will carry americans and afghan allies already evacuated from the c to undisclosed locations. They are also having southwest during the operations. Our first priority is getting american citizens out of the country as quickly and safely as possible. The new Jersey Governor sent a letter to the white house saying that his state will come afghan refugees and is encouraging america to expedite immigration process for those people. G7 leaders are calling for a virtual meeting this week to discuss what is becoming a humanitarian crisis. Taking a live look outside, and Airquality Alert has been issued for tomorrow. There is still an advisory for tomorrow, but this is more good news than bad news. There is a lot of green and yellow on the map. It is mostly good here. You do see some moderate sprinkled in the East Bay, and then it starts to get unhealthy for sensitive groups. Tomorrow we will still have some moderate areas, thats why we have the advisory. Our reporter spoke with one woman who said she was kicked out of her Hotel Room in order to accommodate someone elses reservation. At this point, what you got is what you got. Reporter Melissa Gustus and is an evacuee staying with family in the Bay Area because she cannot find another Hotel Room closer to the evacuation zone. We are already in the room. Im not understanding. Is there a way we can pay to extend our state . Reporter they were set to leave the best western hotel and the several hundred Dollar Bill from the room was paid for by a woman behind her in line. The woman behind me said she would take care of my bills for me and i was just happy. Because we dont have anything. Reporter on the same day she was forced from the Fire Zone she also saw the first pictures of her destroyed home. It is completely gone. Reporter everything inside appears lost. Hotels in the Pikeville Area are confirming that they are at full capacity. A spokesperson said that up to 90 of guests are evacuees as tourists canceled stays, some opportunities open for more evacuees. The red cross has set up three shelters, and a third in El Dorado hills does have room for evacuees. Not to the latest on the coronavirus and hospitalizations. They are on the rise across the u. S. The cdc says people under 50 make up the majority of those patients and this fourth wave of covid patients are getting sicker quicker. Cases in hospitals have shot up over 240 in the last month and in california alone more than 8300 patients are in the hospital tonight. That is a 210 jump from last time this month. This all comes as the fda is expected to give full approval as early as tomorrow. It would be the first to move past Emergency Authorization and it would also give organizations and official footing to enforce vaccines in the workplace. In this he says that by tomorrow all city employees should have ei submitted proof of vaccination or begin submitting weekly negative test results. City leaders say at some point it will require all city employees to be vaccinated. A community in the East Bay is pleading with City Leaders to take action on the notoriously dangerous intersection at the Street And Mission boulevard in hayward. Witnesses say they witnessed grasses near misses in the crosswalk all the time. And in our own way, the weather back here as well. I want to focus on the Caldor Fire for a second. It is now the newest and most significant fire on the landscape. We will be hearing a lot about it. Its done some pretty impressive runs. I want to show you how close it is to Lake Tahoe. We will use the Satellite Detection which shows up as the yellow and red blocks. The deeper shade of red the more recent the satellite has detected the fire. You could see it moving up the sierra. I also want to show you different labels on here so we can pull out some details. If you ever go to tahoe the chances are you have driven up highway 50. That is where the Caldor Fire is burning. And if we go from highway 50 its moved away from pines and its moved into the tiny community of congress. They have signs they are that say we are the town that refuses to burn. The question is, how close is it getting to tahoe. If you look at the landscape, there is a huge Granite Barrier right now between the leading edge of the Caldor Fire, showing you the most recent Heat Signature and Lake Tahoe. That is a big distance. But youve got the entire Desolation Wilderness over here. So that is a big barrier. Also got Sierra Tahoe over here. That is 10 miles from the front of the fire. But it has slowed its progression. But it would have been easier but in moving in that direction, depending on the wind and how the firefighters can do on the front lines. We will hear a lot about it over the next few days. So its good to become at least a little better acquainted with where it is and where it is burning. Back here at home, the onshore flow is to working in our favor. The problem is that there is so much smoke that has gotten blown out over the coast and that onshore flow was actually pulling that smoke back our way. Recycling all the dirty air. And weve got to get to another day or two before we clear that out. So even though we are not getting a directive from the small, we are pulling all the smoke that had originally gone out to see and we are pulling it back to the onshore flow. It is a good thing but sometimes it doesnt work out perfect. Temperatures out there right now in the low 60s. Tomorrow we start out really great. It will give us a little bit of a Light Mist in the hills. It is keeping the local vegetation pretty damp, which is good news for now.
