Looking live from our exclusive Sales Force Tower camera, a beautiful shot on this friday. Good morning. Its friday december 11. I am len kiese. Thanks for joining us. It is friday. We are very glad to say that. I am anne makovec in for michelle griego. There is a chance of some rain this morning. It looks more impressive than it did yesterday when we were talking about this. The timing is the rain does not get here until late this afternoon, early evening. You can already see it on high def doppler. Thats pretty far away at this point. We will track that on the futurecast in the complete forecast. Today is mainly cloudy and cool. You dont notice showers until we get to the later afternoon just before sun set. Then the best of the rain will come overnight tonight. This is the just the first wave. There is another system that comes in on sunday. We are calling it a rain chance all weekend. Its not going to rain all weekend long. But there are two good systems coming our way with rain. In the meantime, there is the start of your day, taking a look from the top of the Sales Force Tower. The numbers are like yesterday. Grab the jacket. You dont need the umbrella yet but you will want it later today. I will have more on that coming up in a bit. Lets see how the drive is looking. Thanks. Taking a look at the roadways, we have one accident we are starting our friday morning with. Its in the oakland area on 580 east at 106th. Its blocking one lane. The crash happened before 4 00 this morning, a minimal impact to traffic. If you are headed out and taking 580 through oakland east bound, you wont see major issues with the trouble spot. Well keep an eye on that. The bay bridge commute is a light one, fridaylight, as you work out of east bay to San Francisco. So far so good on the Golden Gate Bridge. Thanks. A live look over the east bay as the region prepares for the arrival of first doses of the coronavirus vaccine. According to current plans, california will get about 327,000 doses to start. About 68,000 or one in five of those are designated for the bay area. We are still waiting for numbers from solano and santa cruz. Those shipments will happen after an independent panel give the green light. Food and Drug Administration will weigh in and are expected toolatthe top of the list are hospital employees. There are three tiers. Theory one includes hospital workers and staff at Skilled Nursing facilities. Primary care clinics are tier two. Lab, dental, pharmacy staff are tier 3. The Pfizer Vaccine was nearly 95 effective for adults 18 to 64 and just as effective for people of all ethnicities. Some groups like people with weak immune system, receiver allergic reactions, pregnant women, who were excluded from trials can be restricted from getting the shot. All the data was incredibly compelling in terms of efficacy as well as the in allowing the vaccine to be used at this time. Despite data showing the efficacy, some people who would be first in line to get the vaccine have concerns about how quickly its been developed and pushed through for approval. Some nurses are concerned about the vaccine having adverse side effects. The Fda Advisory Committee members said one of the reasons they moved forward with Pfizer Vaccine is they felt the benefit out weighed risks. In california, another 220 deaths were recorded wednesday, a single day record for the state. Sonoma is less than 24 hours from a new stayathome order. The county has been stuck in the purple tier. Now its joining five other bay area counties voluntarying enacting the Stay Home Order before it is worse. The longer it takes, the more likely we will have more spread in our communities. We thought that was important for our Business Community and we werent seeing the very Alarming Trends really until this last week and a half. While as a region bed capacity sits about 18 , its a fallen under 12 in sonoma and stems from a sharp increase in covid cases. Sonoma is seeing 25 new cases per 100,000 per day. The 14 day case rate is 343 per 100,000, highest number sonoma has seen sore far in the pandemic. After eight months now, your emotions are up and down. Now you just kind of roll with it. Youve really just got to roll with it. Sonoma is expected to get nearly 5,000 doses of the Pfizer Vaccine in the first shipment. In Solano County which is still open, people turned out for outdoor dining. Businesses believe a shut down is imminent. Many are shopping for ingredients every day, say it is too risky to stock up. I said i am Still Holding on. Its about supporting your local businesses and doing it in a safe way. Solano county might not have a choice to stay open longer. Available icu capacity in the bay area continues to slide toward the 15 mark which would make stayathome orders mandatory. A look at the san juaquin valley. If you were thinking of hitting the slopes in tahoe, think again. Available icu capacity is 15 and tahoe is off limits to outside visitors starting today. Reporter for some the order means having to change traveling plans. Its a bummer because we spent four and a half hours driving here. Our trip is getting cut short. My family and i often go to lake tahoe for skiing. Reporter some worry about the future of local businesses. They depend on that part of the year to survive on. Reporter others believe something must be done to get handle on rising numbers. I think its a good thing. We have to get control of the virus. We have people that come here from all over, you know, and a lot of people dont want to wear masks. Reporter new restrictions ask to remain at home as much as possible and avoid nonessential travel. The city of South Lake Tahoe mayor says theyre not close. We are not close because our resorts are open and the governor did encourage that. I think there are nuances to it. Reporter restaurants are open for take out or delivery, hotels open for essential workers. Retail shops will be at 20 capacity and personal care businesses will be closed. To tell people not to come to my community is very difficult. Lake tahoe has struggled to contain a surge in visitors as more in california seek refuge. Who would you choose for person of the year . Time magazine has made its pick. Today it is two people, president elect joe biden and Vice President elect kamala harris. Harris will become the first woman and first black and south asian woman to serve as Vice President. In january when biden is sworn in, he will become the oldest u. S. President in history. Well bracket some of the times. Well take it from 8 00 in the evening where we are seeing good rain bay area wide. We will let that play through the overnight hours. At 11 00 its still good. Past midnight into Early Morning hours of saturday, it starts to fall apart. Watch what happens. Its still cloudy throughout saturday and a few spotty hit and miss showers throughout the day on saturday are possible. Clearly the best rain from the first wave is coming from early evening tonight through the late hours of tonight and early tomorrow. Then there is the second wave which is this one. That one starts early on sunday morning. Lets take this from the predawn hours sunday and watch that line of showers as it works across pretty much the entire bay area. Not passing through south bay until about the afternoon. As that clears the south end of the bay area, another well organized line of rain comes into north bay. Lets not get too caught up in the details of timing with this. The take away is two systems and possibility of rain pretty much for the entire weekend. You will see that in the seven day forecast. We can pick up about a half inch of rain in the north bay and maybe a quarter inch of rain in the south bay. Then once we are passed sunday well be done.
