This is video from the citizen app from earlier this morning. You see the flames shooting out of the window. Thats on the 11th floor of this high rise on davis court. A total of 22 apartments were significantly damaged by this fire and five people were injured, escaping the building. When firefighters got there after 1 00 in the morning, they had to rescue several people. Now there is smoke damage throughout much of the building. There were no sprinklers. Since part of the building is made of concrete, many of the people who left their homes in the middle of the night have already been allowed to return. Whats amazing, the majority of people, they remembered to grab their masks. Even in a emergency situation, everyone is thinking about the coronavirus. That is pretty impressive. Roadways in the area are going to be closed for another couple hours, firefighters still investigating where the fire started and how it started. Well keep you posted on their investigation. Back to you. Thank you. This morning, california is seeing its highest daily case count since late july. More than 11,000 new cases and 106 deaths. Every county in the purple tier is about to be under a new statewide curfew including contra costa, a the me today, sonoma, napa, santa clara, alameda. Lets go to kiet do to break down what you can and cannot do. Reporter good morning. This is basically like the full lock down in march only this applies to the nighttime hours. This is a limited stayathome order and applies to purple tier counties. It goes from 10 00 p. M. To 5 00 am. It will last for one month. You are supposed to avoid gathering with people outside your household within those hours. Essential work is exempt. Restaurants must close at 10 00 p. M. With exception of take out and delivery. Grocery shopping is okay, walking your dog within the nighttime hours is okay. The States Health secretary says a number of factors went into this decision. The Colder Weather is increasing indoor activity and more mixing of households which comes with reopening. People tend to let their guard down within the late hours as they gather with friends and family. Masks come down, maybe additional activities that increase transmission. So a focused targeted effort to really reduce those activities while still allowing other things to occur. Its a serious, serious wake up call. You know, right now we have icu capacity, in patient capacity. That doesnt necessarily last forever. Dr. George rutherford at ucsf, that was him talking, says curfews like this have worked in europe mostly because their bars are open but in california the bars have been closed. This curfew does not come with any kind of guidance about Law Enforcement. In the bottom of the hour, we are going to hear from Law Enforcement agencies to hear what they have to say about that. Kiet do, kpix5. A curfew is ridiculous. Theyre inside anyway. What do we need a curfew for . There is nothing open. I got take out food. There is nothing open. Folks in alameda having strong opinions about the new state order. The county Health Officer Nicholas Moss says it is not intended to hurt businesses. It is a lot for our residents to deal with on top of all the other restrictions. I am hopeful that this will help limit peoples opportunity to get exposed to covid and to pass it to others. Again, the curfew goes into effect saturday night and is expected to last a month. A live look in San Francisco where supervisors are fighting to save a program that leases hotel rooms for Homeless People during the pandemic. Thousands have signed a petition to stop project home key. It is federally funded but money runs out december 30. Hotel owners can elect to Sell Properties to the state to be turned into permanent housing for the homeless. Right now there are 95 projects under consideration statewide and 600 million up for grabs in the use it or lose it scenario. But it has led to a lawsuit. More than 4100 people signed a petition opposing turning extended stay america into permanent housing. This is not how democracy works. We said this before. There is a total lack of transparency, and there is a total lack of representation. We had no voice in any of this. We should go with the volunteer cities first instead of saying hey were the state of california, and duval told you. Some say the faster time line is crucial. There are more than 151,000 homeless. We are in the midst of a pandemic. This is how the state has recommended that we respond to the pandemic, by ensuring that some of the most Vulnerable People in our communities are housed. The residents filed a lawsuit and a temporary restraining order. The restraining order was denied by a judge but the lawsuit is moving forward and is up for a hearing in early december. While the bart board of directors has chosen a building developer, details still need to be sorted out. Bart is making a last ditch effort to avoid massive layoffs. Rider ship has plunged 87 during the pandemic. Now the board is offering early retirement. About 40 of employees are eligible. They would get one week of paper year of service capped at 20 years.
