Livermore 49. 51 San Francisco, 52 san jose and foggy start in santa rosa down to 42 degrees. Check into visibility. You can see that fog along the coast along the bay. Some dense fog in spots. Open for inland locations. As we head through the day cooler compared to yesterday. Still on the mild side. Mid60ss in San Francisco. Low 70s oakland. 80 degrees for concord. We are going see a lot of early results coming from day of votes which will likely give the president an extra bump when those machines start moving, they will be moving about 5,000 ballots an hour all together. Now the reverse is true in states like florida that process early votes ahead of time. Florida and texass. They may show an early lead for joe biden. A huge number of americans have been voting early and in most states officials will be able to set up the ballots and then get the results ott quickly after polls close tonight. Voters in New Hampshire kept their midnight traditiona leave, casting the first in person votes on election day. In some states it may take days to count all the votes. Legal experts are urging patience. What would be a failure would be if we failed to count ballots because of some cut off. Now that its election day experts say the country should be prepared to wait to know who won the presidency or any number of other races. As voters head to the polls today, its becoming more and more uncertain if the country will have a projected winner on november 3rd. If the margin is close, like in any race to get to a final tally it always takes time. Ucla Political Science assistant professor dan thomas said a record surge of mail in votes triggered by the coronavirus pandemic could leave some states needing more time to count their ballots. The rules for processing and counting vary from state to hit and most begin procession those ballots before election day. When it comes to counting the ballots at least 30 states legally cant start until election day. That includes pennsylvania where a handful of counties wont start counting until november 4th. Election administrators have been focused on the issue for months. I think by and large this is they have been preparing for exactly these types of concerns. Mail in ballots in some states after election day could also delay the final results. The question of how late the ballots will be accepted has prompted a number of legal challenges this year. Just last week the Supreme Court said absentee ballots in North Carolina can arrive up to nine days after november 3rd. This after the high court decided ballots wont be accepted in wisconsin if they arrive after the polls close on election day. Those comes are part of a record setting number of elect related lawsuits this year with more than 300 filed in 46 states. Experts believe that we will likely see more legal challenges once the vote tally begins. Chris martinez. In a matter of hours polls open in the bay area. The first were cast last night in New Hampshire though. That happened just after midnight eastern time. Here new early voting numbers out indicate we could see record turn out. Nearly three quarters of registered voters have cast their ballots ahead of election day. That number is nearly 70 in sonoma and around 65 in san mateo, and napa. Over half of registered voters in alameda and santa clara have cast their ballots in a little over half in solano. People took advantage of early voting at sites like the alameda courthouse. Officials and private Health Care Companies have given out a million coronavirus tests. All of it contributing to a 1. 7 positive rate for the county which ultimately leads to better tracing. Santa clara county has won the latest battle between churches and pandemic prothe coles. A court has now granted the county a restraining order against a church preventing from hosting large indoor gatherings. According to the da the church has been hosting weekly Indoor Services for as many as 600 people. Many without masks and little social distancing. The Health Mandate limits capacity to 25 or to 100 people. Church fits 1900 people. They make it seem like the church svices are crowded. They arent crowded. They can fit 1900 people. 600 attend. Theres plenty of room for the 600 people to attend and stay socially distanced. A court will determine whether to maintain the restraining order during a hearing next month. Some parents in newark say they are ready to fight to keep their kids school open. Parents gathered outside Graham Elementary School yesterday. The folks we talked to said they are blind sided and were not given a chance to save their school. Those backing the decision to close the school said graham lacked diversity. Roughly 70 of students are hispanic. If Graham School close itself means the students have to go to three different schools. Are you talking about a community that is already under privileged and disadvantaged. How is that being equal . We reached out to the superintendent and the School Board Member on the Closure Committee and have yet to hear back. They are expected to hear the proposal thursday and then take a vote on november 19th. Two months from now san jose students could be back in the classroom. January 5th is the goal. We have that ridge of High Pressure in control for us and more of that on shore flow today. With it we will see cooler temperatures but still on the mild side as we head through the afternoon. As we go hour by hour you can see that clearing and sunshine inland. Around the bay but that cloud cover still a long the coast for today and future cast winds it show you the westerly winds about five, ten to about 15 miles an hour as we go through the day. For the south bay this afternoon, we are looking at highs in the mid70s. 76 in santa clara, 76 for san jose, also for campbell, 75 in coopertina and sunnyvale. The east bay, 80 degrees in concord and pleasant hill. Upper 70s to low 80s for the tri valley. 80 degrees in livermore and 79 for pleasanton this afternoon. Around the bay, 65 in San Francisco. We are be log at low 70s for the east bayshore line. 72 in oakland. Also for san leandro. For the north bay, in the 70s later today. Looking at 79 for a high in santa rosa. Topping out at 74 for sonoma and for napa and as we look to windsor, 77. Here the extended forecast as we will continue with the mild temperatures tomorrow and thursday as well. We are talking a big drop in temperatures starting on friday. Trackinga cold storm system that will drop our temperatures about 15 degrees on friday. All of us will be down to the 50s and 60s by friday. There is a slight chance to see a few showers but i think for the most part we will stay on the dry side unfortunately. Doesnt look too promising the rain chances friday and into the weekend. Really what we know is that our temperatures will be much cooler friday and into saturday, sunday and early next week.
