They made several rescues overnight because there was major flooding that started to build up and is now on a lot of the roadways here in this area. Hurricane delta blew through making landfall friday as a category 2 storm, drenching with torrents of rain. The storm surge is coming in. Reporter delta winds topped out at 100 Miles Per Hour, knocking out electricity to hundreds of thousands of people. Many of them still reeling after hurricane laura that hit just six weeks ago. That storm followed nearly the same path as delta. And left nearly every building and home in lake charles, louisiana, damaged. It is hitting like probably 15 miles from where it hit originally so were worried about how our house is doing right now. Reporter this morning 2500 members of louisianas National Guard are fanning out to help hard hit areas. I want folks to be hopeful because we know that were going to do everything we can to get them right side up again. It is enormous. If you have driven around and i know you have, you just see fences down, blue tarps on every roof. Some of them unfortunate as us, weve already gotten our house roofed. But it is devastating. Reporter good morning to you. Welcome to my home town, lafayette. We arrived last night we notice this tree blocking this road which is a main access point to the largest hospital in the city. Lafayette general medical center. The lights are on because the hospital still has power. Theyre on backup power. But much like what mireya is seeing 60 miles to the west of here, most of lafayette is without power this morning. Let me tell you about the journey to get here. We left jennings, louisiana, last night, so were about 30 miles to the east of jennings and they took a direct hit from the storm. The eye passed right over us. Wind gusts were close to 100 Miles Per Hour. There are reports of four to five homes which have trees that fell into them. There were no reports of major injuries or deaths. The police chief pulled his cops off the road for most of the night telling people were not going to be able to check on you until saturday morning. As we left jennings and headed east toward lake charles, toward lafayette, most of interstate 10 was open. There was flooding on the sides but nothing blocking the roadway. But when we got into the hub city, which is known, which is now lafayette is known, there are trees all over the place.
