The entire city of calistoga is under a mandatory evacuation order. Take a look at why. Reporter tonight as firefighters douse hotspots, you can still hear the hissing of open gas lines. You can see the danger of downed utility lines. Remnants of a traumatic day in sonoma county. It looked like a big wave coming over the hill. A wave of fire. It was crazy. Reporter the glass fire went sideways overnight. Whipped by high winds, three separate fires became one, now called the glass complex. They combined into a giant blow torch, shooting flames east to west over the hills from napa county. hours. The houses were burned to the ground. Vehicles destroyed. Fences melted. Evacuations forced about 68,000 people from their homes in sonoma county. Theres not as much ash in the air. Officials say theyve got a long way to go getting this fire under control. But these weather conditions are really going to help. Reporter air quality already starting to become a problem again and it could get even worse pretty quickly. Meteorologist paul hagan is tracking the temperatures tonight. The

are resulting in higher humidity levels. That marine layer pushing farther inland. 75 right now around santa rosa. And the winds have also calmed down significantly over the past about 12 hours or so. Gusty this morning but the winds died down this afternoon and now calm winds in a number of locations. The wind really isnt stirring around at all. The wind did shift. Especially around calistoga. But its not going to be that strong. Hopefully the fire crews are going to be able to stop the flames moving into calistoga itself. Just the fact the winds have calmed down is great news. This thing was producing a lot of smoke throughout the day. Thats right. There are two different ways of looking at this. Theres the flames on the front lines which of course were going to prioritize and weve been showing you that in detail for the first part of this newscast. But when it comes to the impacts in your neighborhood, if you dont live in wine country, the smoke now becomes the concern. And the behavior on the glass fire today was quite different from yesterday. Look at the plume of smoke coming off before sunset. Look at the direction thats drifting. That smoke has been drifting down over the rest of the bay area. Thats what it looked like right before sunset. To get an idea on how the forecast looks tomorrow, remember the smoke forecast. The deeper the shade of red, the higher the concentration of smoke. Here we are. Theres the creek fire. Thats still going. As we advance this into tomorrow morning, both start throwing smoke into the sky tomorrow. This is going to become a tricky situation for air quality, especially when you look ahead into wednesday. That could help push some of the smoke out of here. Paul is going to have the complete forecast coming up. Plan on it looking smoky and not being the most healthy to be outside tomorrow. The north complex fire came roaring back to life and is now threatening several towns that were already devastated in 2018, including the community of paradise. Crews are trying to stop the flames before they jump highway 70. Here we go again. These names like paradise, santa rosa, calistoga. Its never ending. Weather keeps warming up. The winds keep blowing. This is something thats repeated itself over and over again in the last few years. Were going to get into the details of how the fires have been behaving in just a second. First an overview around the compless. Temperatures will be in the 80s and 90s. I think the heat is going to be the biggest thing fire crews are going to have to battle. At lowest theyll be between 30 and 45 , which is substantially higher than they were today. Occasionally a gust of 15 miles per hour. Out of a consistent direction southwest. Lets go to the big picture perspective around the glass fire. But of course these fires have a life of their own as they evolve. 48 hours ago this thing hadnt even started yet. Yes, and because of the weathers role last night, we saw a huge advance in the fire. Tonight the weather is giving us a bit of a break. Heres napa valley. St. Helena sits here. Well put the footprint of the glass fire is. When you get into the red boxes, those are the most recent reports. The orange box shows you where its from yesterday. Lets go to calistoga. Theres a difference in today. Were seeing the flames work their way downhill. In andreas story, she showed us the calistoga motor lodge. Lets change our view a little bit. Were right on the eastern edge there of the community of calistoga. You can see the progression in the flames. Now we get a really good idea for how the fire is moving through calistoga. But theres no wind tonight. That means this does not have to be a coffee park situation. It doesnt have to be a paradise situation. Its concerning any time you have flames on the outskirts of your town. But those flames on the east side of calistoga are not being driven right now by intense winds. Good news there. Look what the intense winds did last night. This is why it was so confusing to keep track of all the fires. Last night the glass fire blew from the east side of napa valley. Check out the community of sky hawk where we did lose homes. Thats actually on the

of the sonoma valley. Its also been referred to as the eastern most side of santa rosa. Same thing right here. That was a different story. Thats what strong winds can do in a matter of hours. For calistoga, its going to be a difficult night. At least theres good news in that the wind is not going to be working against you in a significant way. Theres good news there. Well have more on the rest of this coming up later. Lets talk about air quality. The smoke produced by the grass fire is going to spread out. The onshore breeze did item improve things but unhealthy air quality levels for sensitive groups. People with severe asthma or emphysema with the worst air quality in the north bay in the immediate vicinity of the fires. Right now the fog is beginning to spread in. That indicates the marine layer. It tries to make its way farther inland. Its dumped temperatures into the 50s. Mix of 60s and 70s. Those temperatures will drop back down into the neighborhood of 60 degrees. Within five degrees on either side by early tomorrow morning with fog to start the day. Look how far inland it goes. That helps us out in terms of boosting the humidity levels. Upper 50s at coolest. Mostly low to mid 50s. Temperatures tomorrow hot inland. Otherwise a mix of 80s and 90s. Closer to whats normal for this time of yearround the city and east side of the bay. The heat continues inland throughout the rest of the week. The winds keep blowing. This is something thats repeated itself over and over again in the last few years. Were going to get into the details of how the fires have been behaving in just a second. First an overview around the compless. Temperatures will be in the 80s and 90s. I think the heat is going to be the biggest thing fire crews are going to have to battle. At lowest theyll be between 30 and 45 , which is substantially higher than they were today. Occasionally a gust of 15 miles per hour. Out of a consistent direction southwest. Lets go to the big picture perspective around the glass fire. But of course these fires have a life of their own as they evolve. 48 hours ago this thing hadnt even started yet. Yes, and because of the weathers role last night, we saw a huge advance in the fire. Tonight the weather is giving us a bit of a break. Heres napa valley. St. Helena sits here. Well put the footprint of the glass fire is. When you get into the red boxes, those are the most recent reports. The orange box shows you where its from yesterday. Lets go to calistoga. Theres a difference in today. Were seeing the flames work their way downhill. In andreas story, she showed us the calistoga motor lodge. Lets change our view a little bit. Were right on the eastern edge there of the community of calistoga. You can see the progression in the flames. Now we get a really good idea for how the fire is moving through calistoga. But theres no wind tonight. That means this does not have to be a coffee park situation. It doesnt have to be a paradise situation. Its concerning any time you have flames on the outskirts of your town. But those flames on the east side of calistoga are not being driven right now by intense winds. Good news there. Look what the intense winds did last night. This is why it was so confusing to keep track of all the fires. Last night the glass fire blew from the east side of napa valley. Check out the community of sky hawk where we did lose homes. Thats actually on the
Northern Edge<\/a> of the sonoma valley. Its also been referred to as the eastern most side of santa rosa. Same thing right here. That was a different story. Thats what strong winds can do in a matter of hours. For calistoga, its going to be a difficult night. At least theres good news in that the wind is not going to be working against you in a significant way. Theres good news there. Well have more on the rest of this coming up later. Lets talk about air quality. The smoke produced by the grass fire is going to spread out. The onshore breeze did item improve things but unhealthy air quality levels for sensitive groups. People with severe asthma or emphysema with the worst air quality in the north bay in the immediate vicinity of the fires. Right now the fog is beginning to spread in. That indicates the marine layer. It tries to make its way farther inland. Its dumped temperatures into the 50s. Mix of 60s and 70s. Those temperatures will drop back down into the neighborhood of 60 degrees. Within five degrees on either side by early tomorrow morning with fog to start the day. Look how far inland it goes. That helps us out in terms of boosting the humidity levels. Upper 50s at coolest. Mostly low to mid 50s. Temperatures tomorrow hot inland. Otherwise a mix of 80s and 90s. Closer to whats normal for this time of yearround the city and east side of the bay. The heat continues inland throughout the rest of the week.
