Time of year. But we are tracking that haze and that smoke, this is our smoke forecast and those red and purple colors indicate that intense smoke coming from those fires burning across our region. Well talk about what you can expect, taking you through our weekend and details on that coming up. But its a foggy start along the coast and right around the bay. If you plan on taking the Golden Gate Bridge this morning you can see in the live shot its a little murky out there. So limited visibility might be an issue and in fact, chp issued a fog advisory overnight for the portion of marin city down to the Golden Gate Bridge there. So far, things are moving at the limit for the most part. You might see some slightly slower speeds as you head through the waldo grade and on the span itself. But taking a quick look at the Altamont Pass, here westbound 580. You know, things build and the traffic brake lights build so quickly in the area. I kind of have the last sensor situated near Mountain House. Not slow as far as there. But its definitely getting busy connecting on to 580 from 205 to grant line. Anne . They have a big wide sidewalk here so if they want to open for outdoor operations, they can if they want this but yeah, cocoa countys Health Officer has been monitoring these covid numbers for some time now. And they are trending downward and so the county is cautiously optimistic. The pose privity test rate has fallen from 8. 8 to 7. 4 . That means starting today, gyms and Fitness Centers can operate outdoors and also hotels and shortterm rentals can open for recreational travel. Its important to note that hair salons and barbershops have been operating outdoors for some time now and the number is still dropping. The county is also encouraging people to stay indoors because of the smoke and poor air quality and so we have heard from some Business Owners that theyll likely wait until the summer heat cools off and the smoke clears before they spend the money to move operations outdoors. So were cautiously optimistic. Every opportunity we have to see a positive trend and loosen these restrictions we absolutely want to take. Next week the city council will consider fines of 250 to 1,000 for people who violate county Health Orders like mask wearing. And alameda city fills called a proposed fine a last resort. On fire watch now, crews are making more progress on a pair of massive wildfires. The fires burning across the south and east bays now 35 contained. And in the Santa Cruz Mountains, 24 containment. And as for the fires up north, containment remains steady but to the north the fire zone is getting bigger. The lnu fires exploded to more than 11,000 acres in the past day and now the second largest in the states history. Some evacuation orders were lifted yesterday in solano county. But a lot of devastation left behind. This is what it looked like when families returned home along unt vaca. I think were lucky. Lot of people werent as fortunate. I look in the house and then no fire. Oh my god. I cry every day. Some families are counting their blessings but not everyone was so lucky. Driving up mount vaca, charred remains everywhere in sight. Even outline on the dirt of where homes once stood. Happening today, the man accused of stealing from a firefighter and draining his bank account is scheduled to be arraigned in santa cruz. Alleged thief 37yearold Brian Johnson is in jail facing nellny charges and a probation violation. He admitted to using the credit cards after he was caught. Sheriffs were able to track down johnson thanks to the surveillance video. We spoke to his girlfriend and she says he had no idea the wallet belonged to a firefighter and that he didnt find out until he saw himself on the news. He just was like i should just turn myself in. Now and get it over with. He felt terrible. Why didnt he turn himself in now . Fear. You know in nobody wants to go to jail. He has since written a letter of apology to the firefighter. Right now in southern california, a desperate search as police try to find a homeless woman accused of trying to two children a woman watched in horror as a woman tried to kidnap her own 2 yearold son from her own front yard. She started like approaching my baby and i just saw her like trying to grab him. Thats when i ran the grab him and i came inside the house and locked the door. Another woman says the same woman walked inside her gate and tried the same thing. Police say the suspect was recently released from jail where she served time for drug crimes and restraining order violations. Back here in the bay area, a south bay church must pay at least 10,000 in fines for repeatedly violatinghealth orlandos and now the pastor is speaking out. Last month governor gavin newsom shut down Indoor Services at churches and limited the amount of people at gatherings. But pastor jack treber defied the orders and the county fined him twice 5,000 and he was fined again on wednesday. Well, the pastor claims his parishioners are social distancing and wearing masks. Killing at least six people. 14yearold Cynthia Miller was the first confirmed fatality from hurricane laura. Killed by a tree that fell on her familys home. The governor called it the most powerful storm to ever hit the state. By thursday morning, the widespread destruction was in clear view. And those brake lights coming off of 205 out of tracy or start right around Mountain House. All right, some good news. Theres a broken down vehicle on the benicia bridge. However just as you head off the span there. No backup there. Its on the southbound side. But you know, just a headsup you might come across this possible spectator slowing as you head through there. Highway 4 connecting on to 680 and 242, there are overnight closures still in effect kind of that area where you see that purple. Speaking of overnight closures, 101 both directions approaching alemany from thursday from last night all the way through saturday night, from 10 00 until 6 00 a. M. Overnight closures will be in effect. So if you are traveling throughout the bay area during the overnight hours, along 101 stick with 280 instead. We will certainly see a backup through there. And closures continue for the ongoing wildfires. Highway 1 closures there continue along the coast as well as parts of 35 and la honda road as well and highway 9 in the Santa Cruz Mountain area spare the air alert in effect also. Thats right. Tracking that air quality as we go through today and through the weekend. That spare the air alert has been extended now through sunday. Well, this morning, we are tracking the fog as well. And you can see as gianna was talking about, that foggy Golden Gate Bridge camera. Temperatures are running in the mid to upper 50s as we start off our day. So 58 in concord and oakland 57 as well as for san jose. 58 for livermore and 55 in San Francisco and looking at 50 degrees right now for santa rosa. Heres what you can expect. So that foggy start along the coast and right around the bay and we have been watching our air quality deteriorating unfortunately. So the air quality this morning not as great compared to yesterday morning. Temperatures remain near normal and that spare the air alert again extended now through sunday. So lets check the current air quality conditions and what were experiencing right now. So looking at the peninsula and the south bay, unhealthy air from redwood city to Mountain View. Those orange dots unhealthy air for sensitive groups. And also down through san jose and milpitas for the east bay, trivalley, you can see the orange dots indicating unhealthy air for sensitive groups from dublin as well as for fremont. Also concord and walnut creek and danville. Around the bay, San Francisco unhealthy air for you. Unheal theyllair for sensitive groups for the oakland area. And then up to the north you can see the purple dots that indicates very unhealthy air from san rafael up through novato there. Closer to the lnu lightning complex fires. Now because of this unhealthy air that spare the air alert again now extended through sunday. For us. So heres the satellite and radar view. This low pressure system, this weak low is keeping things on the mild side. So seasonal daytime highs for this time of year. Its a reason why we have the foggy conditions along the coast and right around the bay. That onshore flow. As we head through the afternoon, that sea breeze not quite as strong. And temperatures will be a little bit warmer. Were going to see that cloud cover kind of push back to the coast. And then for tomorrow, were looking at temperatures a little bit cooler with that stronger onshore flow for the weekend. Heres what you can expect as we head through the day today. Mid 80s for santa clara and san jose. Also for cupertino. For the east bay, 92 in concord and for Pleasant Hill. Looking at the upper 80s to low 90s for the trivalley. Around the bay, mid to upper 60s to low to mid70s. 68 in San Francisco there. 74 in oakland and upper 70s to low to mid80s for the north bay. Heres the extended forecast and what you can expect.
