Past guidelines said people with exposure to covid19 should be tested even if they are asymptomatic. Uc berkeley started classes yesterday and while courses are taught remotely, some freshmen have opted to live in the dorms to try to make their first year feel somewhat normal. All rooms are single occupancy and students get their meals takeout style and eat in their rooms. You definitely dont see a lot of people because you are not supposed to. Lets get a check on the Early Morning commute with gianna. Hey there. Hey, good morning. And its a bit busy on the nimitz freeway this morning. We have had a couple of accidents slowing you down. South 880 as you head into the fremont area. Theres a crash not too fa dakota road where three cars tangled up. Noninjury. Just waiting on tyou can see theres a line of red. Slow speeds at least from whipple and now the second crash just south of there. So sluggish conditions along 880. Definitely give yourself a few extra minutes as you head out this morning. Other than that 880 is at the limit in the oakland area. Going to 58 o this morning its the usual stuff especially for that supercommuter route coming out of tracy heading into the Altamont Pass. Where its a bit windy this morning. 33 minute drive time now to go from 205 over to 680. Once you can connect on to 680, at the dublin interchange, theres no delays both directions there l you might see a few brake lights though heading into the sunol grade. A quick live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. No metering lights just yet. In the napa county area, you know theres been some positive news on containment for some of the wildfires. However, there are still a lot of road closures that remain in effect. 128 between childs pope valley road adlley road is still shut down. Between rye canyon and the napa county line and 121 between circle oaks and 128 so keep that in mind around that area. Try to avoid it if you can. Len . Looking live from louisiana. Crews looking to survey the damage as hurricane laura made landfall as a category 4 storm overnight. Bringing dangerous wind gusts and rain and storm surges. Lets get straight to Courtney Zubowski who was in galveston, texas with a live look at all of these conditions. Courtney, good morning. Reporter good morning len. Well, here in galveston, texas, we got lucky. We did not take a direct hit. There was some rain and there was some wind. But nothing like what happened about 150 miles east of us in southwest louisiana. Especially in the area known as and cameron about 400 people live there. And they expected many not to evacuate. In fact, 150 people didnt evacuate so you are seeing those conditions right there. Reports of 150mile an hour winds and now were hearing about damage to structures. To buildings. Windows busted out. Buildings shaking all night. The wind howling. In addition to the wind you had the storm surge. The storm surge was predicted to be about 20 feet tall which is going to be over a two story home. And then on top of that, you have waves. So as the sun comes up here in the texas and louisiana area, theyre starting to assess the damage. But heres something thats happening thats very concerning. The people that didnt evacuate right now theyre calling for help to be rescued but the conditions are so bad the flood waters are so high, that at this point, the police cant get to them. So thats the main concern right now. The loss of life and of course on top of that, the structural issue. Len . What is expected in the next few hours and where will the storm hit next . Reporter so the storm is moving its way inland. Fectof wind anth its going to towards arkansas. And then the whole country, move up into the northeast and start feeling the effects of this. Obviously not hurricane status. But wind and rain. But heres Something Else len, to consider. We talked about that storm surge. Well, so big so strong that it went 40 miles inland and flooding 40 miles inland and the water may not recede for days. Wow. And you really worry for the people who chose not to evacuate. All right, Courtney Zubowski, thank you so much for that live report. Weather now. Mary lee standing by with that. Conditions improving here. But you hurricane laura as well. Thats right, len. So keeping a close eye on hurricane laura. Its a category 2 storm and now packing maximum sustained winds of 100 Miles Per Hour. When it made landfall as a category 4 storm, the weather observation site at cameron, texas was measuring wind gusts of 115 Miles Per Hour. And as it continues to move up louisiana just right along the texas and louisiana border there, its still bringing torrential rains and extreme and damaging winds. So watching this closely, and as it continues to move north and then northeast, it will rapidly weaken. So down to a Tropical Storm later today. But really watching this area especially in louisiana right now as it is still bringing flooding rains as well as looking at that onshore flow kicking in. So some good news at least were looking at better air quality this morning. Heres a live look with our south bay san jose camera right now it is 60 degrees. So were in the 50s and 60s this morning. And with foggy conditions along the coast and right around the bay, with that onshore flow, even catching a little bit of drizzle in spots. Even in oakland, you are noticing and catching that drizzle this morning. And the mid 50s. Looking at mid 50s in San Francisco and about 54 in santa rosa. So lets check the air quality. You can see a lot of those green and yellow dots. That does indicate good to moderate air quality to san jose as well as for the east bay. The trivalley. Looking at better air quality for concord and walnut creek and danville. Around the bay. San francisco and oakland. Although to our north, the north bay, you are still looking at some unhealthy air from kent field and san rafael as well as for novato. Closer to the lnu complex fires this morning. Still dealing with that smoky air for you. So were still looking at a air alert that remains in effect today as well as for tomorrow. With that stronger sea breeze, higher relative humidity values that should help firefighters who are getting beater handle on those fires. Now as we head through the die, that cloud cover backs up to the coast. And then tomorrow, less of that onshore flow and temperatures tomrow. Armer looking i head for the south bay, mid 80s for san jose as well as for campbell. For the east bay topping out at 90 degrees for concord and Pleasant Hill. Around the bay, upper 60s to low 70s. And for the north bay, upper 70s to low to mid80s this afternoon. So heres the extended forecast and what you can expect as we warm up a bit friday. Cooling it back down just a bit for the weekend. And then warming back up by next week. Back to you. Happening today, many east Bay Regional Parks not affected by the wildfires could reopen today. Park district Officials Say it will depend on the air quality. There are six parks that will stay closed though even if the air quality is good. They are on your screen here. A couple of them are sunol erndg territory and mission peak and round valley. Orange county off the states covid watch list but what does that mean for disneyland . The theme parks
