the mayor is responding tonight. >> reporter: parts of downtown oakland are a mess today after a protest last night and the aftermath. boardithows the painting over graffiti at police headquarters and u.s. mail trucks. last night's demonstration in oakland has cleanup crews busy today. the demonstration was loud, but peaceful early on last night. the stated purpose of the protest was for oakland to show solidarity with the demonstrators in portland, facing off with federal officers in a demonstration that has lasted nearly 2 months. they also wanted to reiterate that blacklight matter. after it got dark, it got ugly. t county courthouse. >> burn it down. >> reporter: others not down barricades at police headquarters. oakland police reported vandalism in multiple small fires in downtown oakland. several people were arrested. vandalizing our downtown gives donald trump the images he wants and the justification he seeks to send federal troops into american cities. we can't be full and play into his twisted campaign strategy. we celebrate passionate protests, the outlanders need to know if you participate in protests after dark, you may be covering for agitators that are stoking video coming up at 6:00 of two different demonstrators who had a disagreement about that issue. people rally at san jose police to hold police accountable. protesters demanded restorative justice and transparency. activists are pushing for a new public safety model, extending beyond bias training and taking police officers out of schools. now, to the latest on the coronavirus. new numbers out so california's hospitalization rates are slightly going up. nearly 7000 people with covid 19 are being treated at hospitals. that is just a small uptick from friday's numbers. the state reported more than 8200 new cases overnight. the rate of positive tests over the last 14 days is up 7.5%. this just in, santa cruz county has now officially been added to the state watchlist after being flagged for monitoring on thursday. that means closures of indoor salons and jim's jeans could begin as early as next week. >> the free testing site at hayward is moving to the east bay campus, where a lot of people have been in trouble trying to get to the site. chopper 5 was over that campus where they saw people stuck in hours long lines. it will reopen on august 3 at sky with golf course. it will be by appointment only. the oakland zoo is reopening tomorrow. the first few days will be for members only and it will officially be open to the public beginning on wednesday. but, to make sure there is enough social distancing space, guests have to return tickets online. tickinco g a live look at enhanced unemployment benefits don't expire for millions of americans. the federal john davitt jobless benefits approved in april, $600 per person per week are about to expire at the end of the week. house democrats passed a bill two weeks ago to extend the relief through january. but, republicans want to make sure no one is making more on unemployment then they did at work. >> i think workers and americans understand the concept that you shouldn't be paid more to stay home than to work. the fair thing is to replace wages. it just wouldn't be fair to use taxpayer dollars to pay more people to sit home then they would get working. >> republicans and the white house are saying they want to keep some money going, but bring it down to aboug can accept? >> let me just say this. the reason we had $600 figuring out 70% of somebody's wages, people make wages, not a salary. and, sometimes it varies. why don't we just keep it simple? >> the trump administration is working right now to finalize a $1 trillion relief bill that is expected to be brought forward tomorrow. speaker pelosi said congress will stay in session until there is a deal. u.s. representative, john lewis made history again today. as a procession of warmers, alabama state troopers and hundreds of others guided his horse-drawn casket across the edmund pettis bridge in selma. michelle miller is there. >> reporter: applause and cheers broke out as a horse- drawn carriage brought john lewis his casket over the edmund pettis bridge for a final crossing. lewis, an advocate for nonviolent protests returned to the bridge annually. sometimes with u.s. presidents to remind the world that the search for racial justice is not finished. >> today we will walk arm in arm across this bridge and no one will be as. >> reporter: in march 1965, it was on this bridge named after a confederate army general and ku klux klan leader that lewis suffered a concussion and fractured skull the hands of state troopers and others. but, lewis came out of that conflict more determined than ever to make change. on this crossing, members of lewis's family wore t-shirts saying, good trouble. the phrase guided the congressman and those he mentored throughout his decades long career on capitol hill, and his years at the forefront of the civil rights movement. >> he has laid out the blueprint for us to pick up the baton and continue his march. for voting rights, for civil rights, for human rights. >> reporter: and, in sharp contrast to that day 55 years ago, alabama state troopers saluted lewis's flag draped etped load it onto the hearse that traveled to montgomery for lewis with delight in state sunday at the election, voters in three key battleground states are now swinging toward joe biden. he is leading by a narrow margin in florida and arizona. by 12 points in michigan. president trump carried all three of those states in 2016. meanwhile, a new poll finds just 32% of americans approve of how president trump is handling the covid 19 crisis. and, 8-10 say the country is going in the wrong direction. this tuesday will mark a sobering anniversary for the city of gilroy. it will be a year since the mass shooting at the garlic festival left four people dead and several others injured. devin fehely has more on the memorial to honor the victims. >> reporter: each box can be decorated and personalized. they are known as soul boxes, handcrafted pieces of origami each symbolizing life that has been lost or scarred by gun violence. in gilroy, they have a message, that even one life lost to gun violence is one too many. >> we wanted to just do something that recognizes that we see the pain and the hurt that has been caused due to gun violence. >> reporter: last year, on july 28 the gunman snuck into the festival on its final day and started shooting. he was met almost immediately by law enforcement officers as security. they still managed to kill three people before turning the gun on himself. the group says the memorial is meant to honor the dead. they honor the living by fighting to enact tougher gun laws that will help prevent the next shooting. >> more than 100 people die every day from gun violence and hundreds more are injured. we work on this on a daily basis. what we are trying to do is pass legislation that makes gun laws safer. coming up, hidden gem in northern california is now being overrun by tourists. how park officials are cracking down. bait area actress who gained with the immortality in gone with the wind has died at the age of 104. olivia de haviland died peacefully today of natural causes in her paris home. the last surviving major performer from gone with the wind. she also won oscars for starring in to each his own and the heiress. de haviland moved to saratoga as a child, along with her sister, joan fontaine. their former home still stands. she attended the high school where she debated for her school and wrote for her newspaper and yearbook and acted in drama club performances. park officials shutdown access to a popular swimming hole. it has apparently been very excited crowded lately. it is about 35 miles west of lake tahoe. there are only 12 parking spots at the access point, but officials say they were about 300 cars there last weekend. officials are worried about coronavirus cases possibly spiking, so they closed the lot. in san francisco, hardly, strictly is going virtual. the bluegrass festivalll there will be performances and recorded interviews and footage from the past 20 years. the group also launched a relief fund in hopes of raising $1.5 million to help the bay area during the pandemic. on the storm watch, new drone video from south texas showing the aftermath of hurricane hanna with car stuck in floodwaters and homes and businesses have been taking on water. hanna we can quickly into a tropical storm. although most areas were spared heavy flooding, the most damage came from the powerful winds brought in by the slow-moving storm. the winds ripped down signs and even toppled that semi truck. meanwhile, people across hawaii are hunkering down with hurricane douglas heading close to the islands. it could be the third hurricane in modern history to make landfall in hawaii. at the moment, the winds, for instance in honolulu are only up to 25 miles an hour. >> i want to show you the wind field. it is on the south side in a lucky spot. let me show you what douglas looks like on the regular satellite. you can see the spinning fight mess. this is not the kind of storm where we have a really developed donut hole right in the center. if we look at the storm in a different way, instead of the visual you can pickup the clouds easily. when we look at it in the infrared, which reads how high the clouds are, you get a sense for how much bigger the storm actually is. if we look at where the national hurricane center has it picked right now, it is north of maui. you can see the track. hawaii does often times seemed almost blessed with the potential to have these things dodge them. this is far too close for comfort. before i show you the forecast track, i want to show you the wind field. this is the chance of who is going to experience tropical storm force winds. when you get into the shades of orange to red that is a high degree of confidence that the northern edge of all of these islands, from a wahoo to hawaii will experience that. if we look at the chance of experiencing hurricane force winds, this is still something to contend with. even if the i eye stage right off the coast, it can come loose enough that you still have to deal with the brunt of the strongest winds. that is the potential for 74 mile an hour sustained winds. luckily, most of it stays off the coast. here is the way we are used for looking at this. there is the forecast track. by tonight at 8:00, it is really going across the north shore of a wahoo. then, it does the same thing and perhaps with better aim for kawai. it is between 8:00 tonight and 8:00 tomorrow morning when it will pass by those two islands. let's come back home. we have plenty of clouds out here. if you are at the coast, this has been an exact repeat of yesterday. that is thsame as yesterday. san jose, here is where you are. we will do this again tomorrow. yesterday, today and tomorrow all very similar. here is where we sit now with temperatures from 1-2 degrees difference for most of us. here comes the marine layer. we will build it back in again overnight. it will overtake the entire bay and burn right back to the coast by the time we get into late morning with plenty of blue sky. let put some numbers on this. morning lowe's tomorrow and the daytime highs for tomorrow, as well. let's walk through that in detail. morning lowe's tomorrow, exactly what you are used to in the mid to upper 50s. daytime highs mid-80s for the south bay. santa clara 84, redwood city 80. we will see temperatures around 93 for much of the inland areas. oakland, you will get a date in the low 70s tomorrow. santa rosa goes to 82. those numbers are right on the mark for average for this time of year. it feels wonderful and late july to be there. 97 for the daytime high in length. the temperatures are going to kill down a bit as we go into the middle of the week, but they don't stay down long. they will warm back up in time for next week. mid-90s by next weekend. i and dennis ramirez also tested positive. they both played the previous two nights, but will now quarantine in philadelphia while the team returns home to miami tomorrow. the giant will play later tonight in los angeles. they have a chance to split that series to two games apiece, despite being out scarred outscored so far, 21-7. the rookie reliever had an impressive big leg debut on saturday tossing two
