Yes, vlad, let me know how that works for you. Let me know. Good to see you guys. Were going to begin with this. The coronavirus and the new concerns that the surge in cases could lead to critical shortages of urgently needed medical supplies. Pictures from across the country tell the story in the hardest hit states people are lined up for blocks waiting for the testing. Many of them will wait for several hours and even then, some will be told that the results could take up to a week. In washington, the Trump Administration is insisting schools fully reopen in the fall, even though many have not met cdc safety guidelines. During yesterdays Coronavirus Task force briefing, Vice President pence announced the cdc will now change its guidance raising questions about independence. Well have more on that shortly. We want to begin in miami with our lead National Correspondent david begnaud. Good morning. Cases are spiking there. The question on everyones mind, is florida going to shut down again. Not that we know of. Listen, all the rollbacks have been somewhat spontaneous and theyve happened at the local county level. Not at the state level because, remember, the Governor Ron Desantis said were not rolling back anything. We are moving forward. And to that point, today in orlando, disney world is reopening, but only for pass holders so they can get a preview of what the new park will be like in the middle of a pandemic. And then on saturday, under very strict Public Safety rules were told, the park will reopen to everyone, even as the state of florida continues to be a redhot epicenter of this pandemic. Were seeing patient comes in on the hour. Reporter thats dr. Randy katz, an e. R. Physician in hollywood, florida. On an average day, they would see 250 patients. And now some First Responders are losing access to the addresses of confirmed and suspected infections. If a firefighter or ems or deputy officer had responded to that address, they could take the steps to protect that individual. Did they tell you why theyd stop giving you the numbers . They told us in an email it had become too onerous. Reporter florida is one of four states the white house Coronavirus Task force says is in a red zone on its risk scale. At a Task Force Briefing wednesday, dr. Deborah birx asked the americans in those red zones to do this. Not only use the face coverings, not going to bars, not going to Indoor Dining but really not gathering in homes either and decreasing those gatherings back down to our phase one recommendation which was ten or less. Reporter in texas, another red zone, state officials ordered the immediate evacuation of more than 60 residents at the lake worth nursing home near dallas. 25 residents there tested positive for the virus. Arizona is another red zone. There are less than 150 icu beds available statewide. Phoenix Fire Department captain rob mccabe said covid calls are off the charts in some parts of the city. And at close to 100 firefighters have likely been infected. It was humbling to our department to see so many of our members get it so quickly. Any and all situations that are dangerous, this is different. Reporter that risk of infection is the same reason sheriff chitwood here in volusia county, florida, north of orlando, says its unconscionable that his local Health Department stop giving him addresses in the county where infected cases are. What hed do is tell his Police Officers, hey, before you get to 123 main street for the 911 call, know theres an infected person there and you should dress accord league. We called the Health Department to say, why did you stop sending them the information . They told us its a statewide directive. Vlad. David, ill note back on march 31st, President Trump was asked about Governor Desantis and his resistance to athome orders. President trump said the governor knows exactly what hes doing. Around 220,000 cases have been reported across the state. Hospitalizations have more than doubled in the last two weeks. Mireya villareal is outside south Texas Health System in mcallen texas in the hardhit rio grande valley. Whats the situation there . Good morning, vlad. Never seen parents as sick as patients with covid that end up in intensive care. Reporter new cases are up 70 from two weeks ago. They work in the hospitals emergency room which is also full. The reality is its getting bad. Its starting to affect every one of us. Was there a point you guys were worried, we cant handle this . Yes. Theres too much to do and not enough hands. And all you want is to make sure that everybody is okay. And now we can really stop and think about whats happening. And its terrifying. Were losing friends. And it just becomes too much. Mireya, must be very hard for you to know that area so well and see what the people are going through. Just another reminder that wearing a mask makes a difference. We all want to avoid being in that situation. Were pulling for that family. Thank you very, very much. Tulsas Health Director says President Trumps recent political rally there, more than likely, contributed to oklahomas surge in coronavirus cases. As you recall, you can tell looking at that picture, many people did not wear a mask that day. The president is now pushing for schools across the country to reopen. His education secretary says its not a matter of if kids head back to the class, but how. Paula reid reports on the administrations effort to override the expert advice. We want the schools to be open and going in the fall. Reporter the president tweeted wednesday that he disagrees with his own cdcs very tough and expensive guidelines for opening schools. The current guidelines encourage the use of cloth face coverings, social distancing, staggered scheduling and no communal space. After the president s criticism, Vice President mike pence announced new cdc guidelines will be released next week. We just dont want the guidance to be too tough. What is not the intent of cdcs guidelines is to be used as a rationale to keep schools closed. Reporter but dr. Deborah birx admits the data on children and covid is incomplete because not enough testing has been done. The portion thats been the lowest tested portion is the under 10yearolds. So were putting into place other ways to get testing results from them. Reporter President Trump ignored questions from cbs news about the lack of data. How can you say its safe to send them back to school . Reporter the administrations push to send them back to school has prompted backlash from some governors who say the president is putting politics over science. Im not sending kids and our Education Workforce into our schools unless its safe. Its that simple. Reporter and notably absent from wednesdays Task Force Briefing was dr. Anthony fauci who earlier this week contra dicted President Trump on the severity of the pandemic. Does the president still have confidence in dr. Fauci . Its up to him to determine what to do with that information. Reporter until now, the administration has largely deferred to local leaders on how to reopen communities, but when it comes to schools, a white house adviser said the president is especially interested in getting kids back to class because it means getting parents back to work which could prompt an economic resurgence ahead of the november election. Even as his top experts cant really say its safe. Tony . Parents want school but not at the cost of their childrens safety. Thank you. We want to shift gears and tell you about two tornadoes that hit rural minnesota killing at least one person and causing widespread damage. It destroyed at least four residential buildings. Officials are still assessing the damage but the wind could have been at least 140 miles an hour. George floyd told Police Officers he could not breathe more than 20 times before he died. Thats according to new evidence from one of the fired officers accused in floyds killing. Thomas lanes lawyer gave a judge transcripts recorded by lanes body cam. They show that Derek Chauvin who held his knee on floyds neck for nearly nine minutes, 8 46 exactly, told him, stop yelling. It takes a heck of a lot of oxygen to talk. When lane asked if floyd should be turned onto his side, chauvin said, no, hes staying put where we got him. And lane said floyd might be in disstrerks chauvin said, well, thats why weve got an ambulance coming. Lanes attorney argues there is evidence of his clients innocence and he believes charges of aiding and abetting should be dismissed. Prosecutors have until august 10th to respond. Its tough to hear this transcript because it seems the audio matches the callousness of what we saw in the video. Heartbreaking when you see the details up close like that. Shifting gears back to a 15yearold boy in california who is telling us how his father was shot and killed in front of him on a fourth of july trip. Ari and Jack Gershman asked a man for directions around two hours north of sacramento and then with no warning, the man opened fire and ari was hit. That was just the beginning of jacks ordeal.
