Lafayette has been fighting over what to do. But the Planning Commission made its decision. Not because they wanted to but state law forced their hand. Mr. Majio. You could tell by the sound of their voices, they werent thrilled about it. Aye. Zeke so the motion carries. After a seven hour meeting the Planning Commission approved the terraces of lafayette. A 315 unit apartment complex situated on this land over looking highway 24. Neighbors complain the project will increase traffic and pollution and hinder evacuation in case of a wildfire. So its become a poster child for nimbism and stuff its not its a project in a difficult location with challenges. The project has had multiit will hearings a court case, a failed redesign and a public vote. But a recent state law called the housing accountability act or haa makes it harder for cities to reject developments. Especially ones that include affordable units. Following the vote, the developers attorney wrote after nine long years and every form of legal and political challenge, the commission recognized that the housing accountability act required approval of the terraces. Commissioners were warned that if they didnt approve the project, the city could be forced to pay more than 15 million in legal costs. Theyre sort of blaming the housing crisis on small local cities forcing them to do something about it. The matter will almost surely be appealed to the city council for a final decision. With the haa on their side, the developers are now confident the project will go through but the Homeowners Group opposing it doesnt seem ready to throw in the towel. We should push it farther offshore as we head into the weekend. A shift in the over all weather pattern will allow temperes warm up as we head i of july on saturday. Inland in the santa clara valley. Low to mid 80s. Normal for july. Low to mid 80s. Warm spots where you expect them to be on the east side of the diablo range. Temperatures around the bay itself reaching up into the mid to upper 60s. East bay low 70s. Mostly 70s for the north bay. The warmest spots in the north bay up to around 80 degrees. And toastier for lake and mendocino counties again. Instead of the 90s. Youre in the 80s. Temperatures retreat as well. We warm up into the weekend, 70 degrees around the bay on the 4th and on sunday with high temperatures inland getting toasty around 90 degrees. She created the piece as part of the Service Project she began while shettering in place. Shes painting portraits at a fifth of the normal rate and donating money to pe ed the professional artist who is also a math teacher spread the word through social media. My husband and i and my kids are all lucky to have a place to stay, we have money groceries and were able to pay our bills. It broke my heart to see so many people struggling. Gina painted 55 portraits. And made more than 11,000 since mid march. She says shes given all the funds to 55 families. Families like adama and her fiveyearold son, jeremiah of oakland who received 400 in donations for food. Adama, also helped direct her donations to other cash strapped households. I think shes awesome. She just cared and was willing to take care of people ha that she doesnt know. It says how jeb Ronald Mcdonald house she is. And talented.
