New this morning, the San FranciscoUnified School District will no longer partner with or help fund the San FranciscoPolice Department. Eight hours into a marathon meeting, and the City School Board voted unanimously on the resolution to remove the armed officers from School Campuses to revised protocols when staff calls police, and it calls on the superintendent and labor groups to Work Together to develop racial bias screening tools for new hires. The Oakland School board is set to vote on a similar resolution today. If its approved, it would phase out the osud police force by the end of the year. Kiet do with more in the next half hour. Developing news this morning, a petition to defund the San Jose State UniversityPolice Department is picking up steam. We are following that as ten black faculty and Staff Members at san jose state, with the help of nonblack allies authored a petition, calling to defund the University Police department. Among the cases they are citing, the brutal beating of philip chong at a library that led to the firing of officer jonathan silva. They are also calling for disarming police to create a review board to implement the eight cant wait guidelines to reduce the Police Budget by 50 and reinvest into the college, especially for students who are struggling with food and housing. One assistant professor at the University Said its a call to start a community dialogue. We never have enough money, and if we are to invest in the police t needs to go back to us. Saying defund police, we are not saying abolish the police. Ann jose state said they are working on creating an Advisory Board right now, and in the next 30 days , it should be finished. A Contra Costa CountySchool District under fire this morning with parents questioning how the school board is spending its money. Parents, teachers, and some students protested after being asked to donate nearly 600 per student to make up for the budget deficit even though top administrators were given raises. If we are threatened with our kids going to school two days a week, im not sure what we are paying for. Wrap me in bubble wrap. I just want to go back to school. The district is looking at an around 8 million deficit, regardless of whether or not the state makes cuts to education. Developing this morning, as california has seen a Record Number of new coronavirus cases over the last couple of days, theres calls to fine people who dont wear a mask. David canapa believes they are not taking virus seriously and he sent a letter to governor newsom. What we asked the governor to do on a statewide level, and maybe what we could do on a pilot basis in san mateo county, if he chooses, is to give us the authority within the road map to have the ability to fine people. Under the proposal, the first offense is a warning. 100 fine for the second offense, and the third offense would have a 500 fine. Theres mixed reactions for the proposal. Im all for masks. We have also learned 10 of the prison population at san quintin has tested positive. Its important to note they didnt have any cases until a prisoner transfer late last month. We are looking at body camera video related to a shooting in the east bay. It shows the chaotic Moments Police shot and killed a kidnapping suspect. Several oakland officers and a richmond officer were involve in the shooting. Police said they released the video to show how it unfolded. The officers fired their guns when the suspect made a uturn and aimed at their patrol cars. All of this happened back in april when police got a call about a missing 29yearold. The kidnapping victim was found in a wooded area and was able to give a description of the suspects van. Police spotted the van and went on a 20mile chase into richmond. The body camera video showing the end of the chase. The suspect died and the kidnapping victim has been in critical condition. A hate Crime Investigation into union city this morning. A car with a black lives matter sign in the window was spray painted with racist graffiti and had its windshields smashed. It was on sunday. An officer got cleaning supplies and removed the graffiti himself. Morning the fbi says Bubba Wallace was not the victim of a hate crime. The fbi said the rope had been there for months, but as Laura Podesta reports, the nascar driver insists it was a noose, whether it was directed at him or not. Reporter it was not a hate crime. According to the fbi, the noose found on sunday hanging inside of Bubba Wallaces garage stall in talladega had been there since last fall. I got evidence of what it was hanging over my car to confirm it was a noose, and never seen anything like it. Reporter wallace, the only fulltime black nascar driver spoke last night on cnn saying he went over what was found at length with his crew chief to make sure they were not jumping the gun.
