Joining us. Im brian hackney. And im juliette goodrich. We do begin with lightning, thunder, rain, even hail. Lets check in with darren again on this impressive thunderstorm. It hit us at noontime today across the bay area. Right about between 2 00 and 4 00, 680 and 580 lrp downpours. All four sweeps are going around. The last three hours. Now you see why there was a flood advisory issued this afternoon that was allowed to expire just about an hour ago now for 680, 580, all of the areas there with the brightest colors on your screen and the flashes of lightning. Well put this into the futurecast. It picks up on that complex of thunderstorms, the leftovers of what was moving through the east bay. Well still see showers down here through the hills of the south bay. Im going to be back with the rest of the forecast in a few minutes to show you what comes next. Back to you. Darren, thanks so much. We want to show you some protests going on in san francisco. Chopper 5 over the scene right now as protesters denounce the killing of george floyd. He is the africanamerican man who was killed by a Police Officer earlier this week in minnesota. As you can see, theyre walking down peacefully right now. Within the past hour, protesters marched from civic center to fourth and bryant where they tried to walk on to the bay bridge, but they were met by a line of police. Kpix 5s john ramos spoke to demonstrators about how to bring an end to these racially charged police shootings. Reporter the message here, of course, is black lives matter u for that to happen people here say its going to take white voices. They feel angry when we gather, when we march, when we protest peacefully or not. They feel that angry. But one thing they wont ever feel is the fear of having a target on your back. Reporter the killing of george floyd is only the latest, but one by one, the deaths of black people at the hands of police have had their effect. We dont forget. Were always remembering. As a black man, im always on edge every time i get pulled over. I think this could be, i dont know whos pulling me over. This could be my last night. And its just its been building. Reporter but look out at the crowd and youre struck by a curious fact, most of the protesters today were white, and while it may be true that they cannot understand what it feels like to be black, a man named mark says they actually hold the key to genuine change. Thats going to be the difference is the white voice. It really is. Because im not going to play theyre not going to pay black peoples voices any mind. They dont. Its wrong. But they dont. Its that crowd right there, okay, White America that makes a difference, because its starting to hit home to them. Reporter but as the group took to the streets for a march to city hall, frank perry was worried as he watched workers board up the windows of his building. I can understand their anger about it. But it gets to a point where it goes beyond that and other people suffer as well. But maybe thats what theyre trying to express. But on the other hand, it affects me. Reporter the feeling for many is thats what needs to happen, people who may not agree with Racial Injustice have been willing to live with it, and those who are the victims of it say until everyone feels the pain, it will likely continue. Wheres the missing piece . The missing piece is the good white peoples voice. I think we just need to come together, and white people need to start taking responsibility. We cant be like im against this but not take any action. Reporter the san francisco, john ramos, kpix 5. In less than an hour, protesters are expected to gather outside of the Alameda County Sheriffs Department substation in san leandro. They are calling for justice for george floyd. Da lin is there now. And da, whats going on . Reporter yeah, juliette, very quiet. Just one protester standing in front of this location now. The planned protest is supposed to happen between 6 00 and 7 00, right here in this parking lot of the Alameda County Sheriffs Department substation here in san leandro. Now, organizers are encouraging protesters to bring signs, wear masks and remain peaceful for this demonstration, but the Sheriffs Department is not taking any chances, not after the riots in oakland last night. Also some of the deputies were hurt in that confrontation last night, and of course, the minneapolis precinct that was burned down, they want to make sure that doesnt happen at this location. Now, they have dozens of deputies and chp officers behind that large gate right there to make sure if things do get out of hand they can respond very quickly. Now, this substation is located right next to the 580 freeway. In fact, the westbound 580 onramp is right there. Thats where these cars are going right now. So the chp is very concerned that the protesters could actually get to that onramp and actually try to block traffic 580. The hope is that it will be a peaceful demonstration, and organizers have also called for a peaceful demonstration, and lets hope it remains that way. For now, live in san leandro, im da lin, kpix 5. The search is on for a driver of a white suv that barrelled through a crowd of demonstrators in the middle of protests in san jose last night. Take a look. The scene was captured on a cellphone. Car drove toward a group of protesters and then backed into the crowd, hitting at least two people before it sped off. Witnesses say the driver made a uturn, drove toward the crowd, stepped on the gas and then reversed into the victims. She rolled down the window and she said, i have a baby, let me through. And then she just went all of a sudden. People were telling her to slow down because she was going really quickly. Ran over two people. I saw the wheel go over the person. It was awful to watch. The female driver reportedly turned on to santa clara street as protesters yelled and threw bottles at the car. The sheriffs deputies fired shot as suv, but the driver sped off. Well, more protests took place across the nation today following a night of destruction. Reporter protesters ignored an 8 00 km curfew, prompting Governor Tim Walz to enact the minnesota National Guard for the first time in state history. Last night is a mockery of pretipding this is about George Floyds death. Reporter as the National Guard rolled into minneapolis, President Trump urged minnesota officials to get tougher with protesters. Theyve got to be tough. Theyve got to be smart. We have our military ready, willing and able if they ever want to call our military. But we can have troops on the ground very quickly. Reporter talking with people on this block, a lot of folks told us they support the protests, but seeing this destruction of their community breaks their hearts. If its not broken or burnt down, its tagged with graffiti. Reporter anger ignited protests in dozens of u. S. Cities. Protesters in atlanta set fires and smashed the windows of the cnn center, set fire to Police Vehicles in new york and police held back an angry mob at the white house. People poured into the streets again today from philadelphia to los angeles. I need to be out here. I feel like, you know, its time to take a stand. You know, united we stand, divided we fall. We got rain from other parts of the bay area today, fwlu real show that got everyones attention for sure happened from the trivalley into the llavo valley. And now things have begun to quiet down. If we look at the futurecast for where its going to rain now where you can measure it, its not going to. If any rain does fall, itll probably be an isolated shower. It looks like the majority of this excitement is over. Cant rule out a shower or isolated thunderstorm, but its looking less and less likely as that last wave clears out of the area. Under cloudy skies tonight, down to the mid50s. Tomorrow still going to be cloudy, and we rebound in the low and mid70s inland. Temperatures in the low 70s to upper 60s for much of the bay. Now, in the sevenday forecast, there are two things here that start to get a little interesting. First of all, once we clear out the clouds from this leftover system, look at tuesday and wednesday. Back in the low and mid90s for inland locations. Its going to get hot in the middle of the week, but not as hot as last week. You see the increasing clouds for saturday. Its early on this, but there is 2 possibility for another shot at rain by the time we get to saturday and sunday of next week. Much more on that as we get closer to it.
