Tomorrow will be a bit cooler for inland spots compared to today. The heat advisory remains in effect. Not because temperatures will be as bad but we are talking about upper 80s and low to mid90s further inland. It is the effect of day after day of the extreme heat inland. Noting that the number of Coronavirus Infections is still going up in california, governor gavin newsom is announcing plans to ease restrictions on the stay at home order particularly daily. Those were statewide orders put out over the last few days and you should expect more of those directives and guidelines to be put out over the course of the next few days. However the governor is leaving it to the counties to do their own guidelines. In Santa Clara County, the Health Officer is not using up. The pace at which the state has made these modifications is concerning. Speaking offcamera, the doctor made her strongest critique yet on the governors approach and how the pace of reopening could be endangered and wives. The state modifications are being made without a real understanding of the consequences. They say clent Santa Clara County will remain one of the most restricted in california and argues that each new phase of reopening should be at least two weeks and preferably three after the previous phase began, to gauge whether the loosening is causing infections to spike. It is a very measured approach supported by Infectious Disease specialists. He is under a tremendous amount of pressure not just economically but people just chomping at the bit to have more in their lives. It is that perfect balance we are looking for. It may be an increasingly hardsell in many parts of the state and county where people want to get back to at least nearnormal. Im reflecting on a comment one of my constituents made to me recently which was, the reason this is so confusing is because it is so confusing. Reporter one of the reasons for the confusion is these two rules. You have the state rules and the county rules. It is believed that the more strict rule is the one that people must follow and the more strict rules occur here in Santa Clara County. Live in san jose, kpix5. Santa clara county is putting out a call for contact tracers to track coronavirus cases. The county signed up as many as 100 volunteers but is looking for as many as 800 more. And they want the public to know that it is not dangerous. It is not something that puts you at risk of getting the disease at all. It is really something related to collecting information and spreading information and not spreading virus. Dr. Smith said the work is done by phone and without contact tracy, the community could be stuck in a longer period of sheltering and social distancing. Specially trained firefighter aromatics have been administering the free tests to take pressure off hospitals and healthcare workers. Guidelines for reopening california schools will be released in early june and today, the state superintendent gave some clues as to what to expect. The state will recommend that all students and teachers wear face coverings and get their temperatures checked. In some cases, parents might be required to take their childrens temperatures ahead of time. And there will be physical distancing of at least 6 feet between kids. That would mean smaller class sizes. The superintendent also called on companies to help the state come up with 500 million to get kids Internet Access at home. Where we are headed in terms of getting schools reopened, we are going to need californias companies to come and support californias kids. The other place that does not cooldown is the second floor of my house. And a contra costa citys new plan to make space on the streets for the return of restaurants and retail. Bart stations and trains looking empty but the agency is planning for the walnut creek taking steps to help struggling retailers rebound from the lock down. Over the next few weeks, the city will close off certain streets to allow for more outdoor space for businesses to operate. That will create space for outdoor dining, outdoor retail displays along with Curbside Pickup for people visiting downtown walnut creek today seemed to welcome the idea. It is a great idea. We need to get the economy moving and back. It is sad to see downtown walnut creek is a great idea. It get people out of their homes and into the community. And a lot of folks have their eyes on us as a country starts to open back up again. Among them, the ladies of the cbs show the tal. I got to sit down with them and they asked how San Francisco and the bay area is doing as we adjust to new ways of life. I have to tell you that im so incredibly inspired by these restaurant workers and these Small Business owners with their grit and their tenacity. A lot of them are having to completely change their Business Models to accommodate this new reality. You talk to a lot of them and they say, we dont know if we are going to make it but we are going to try and we are going to fight. We are going to try to make this work. I think that is so inspiring and i think it is sort of a theme coming out of the pandemic. It was interesting. It was my third time cohosting with the ladies. The last three times i was there, we were at this table on the set in los angeles and this time it was all in the living rooms. We joked about, what slippers are we bearing, and he was wearing yoga pants. It was a very surreal experience. Also wonderful. They are so nice. They have been doing this show for two months from home. So much of the show is chemistry. It is harder and im sure it is a challenge. It is a challenge. Similar challenges that we are having as many of us are anchoring from home as well. There are technical challenges. They really pride themselves on not stepping on each other when they talk to one another and that is a hard to. It is hard to do when you cannot feel the person next to you.
