Make sure that for example the Western Addition did not have a location for those kids to access food. Were working with them to make sure the school is clean and prepared and available right now so kids will have access to food. What ever we can do, we are definitely going to work with the School District to be as supportive as we can to provide resources to the children of San Francisco and that has to be a priority. [ inaudible question ] i think, just being out there and paying attention to what i see on the streets, the streets are fairly empty. There are less cars on the street. There is still people who were walking. More people are walking, walking their dogs and walking at distances from one another. I noticed that more people seem to be getting out and just leisurely enjoying the out doors probably just to get some fresh air. I have noticed a lot of businesses that are close. Some restaurants for example, there is a Windows Service in hayes valley and the coffee shops have been open and the members of the public have been following the social distance requirements that we have enforced. I think for the most part, san franciscans have been great citizens. They have really stepped up to the plate and have listened to our orders and have done a lot to help educate others on what that would mean and so far, it has been okay. This is day one and we have three weeks to go. Maybe even longer. I think it is important that people understand that we probably need to be prepared for the long run. Also, we want to make sure that we make it clear that essential City Services will continue to be open and available. The pickups in the deliveries can happen. We have been listening to the mayors press conference and we heard from the director from the department of Public Health as well as the police chief. The mayor is putting in for businesses, a moratorium on evictions and a relief fund to help the Small Businesses that have been forced to close. We also heard from the police chief talking about compliance with the shelter in place. They did not want people in restaurants and bars. They went out and checked the bars and he was very pleased to report that compliance was good. People are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Also they will be hiring 100 nurses. Our top story tonight on kpix 5 and streaming on cbsn bay area, day one of the coronavirus crackdown with the shelter in place first seven San Francisco counties. s trees were taking a look at the financial district which is usually a bumper to bumper commute. The majority of people are working from home today. And it is a similar seen at the bay bridge toll plaza. There were very few cars out there. A lot of folks are staying home. A similar seen on the san mateo bridge. Do not anticipate that the schools will open up in one week. Please dont anticipate in a few weeks. I would assume it is unlikely that many of these schools, few if any will open before the summer break. Here is a list of businesses that will continue to stay open. They include Grocery Stores, you can purchase food and dont hoard it. Pharmacies, banks, but bars and gems will be close. Restaurants are doing takeout and delivery only and coffee orders will need to be to go. There are other businesses that are open right now. We are live in san jose with more. Reporter a lot of the businesses that you just mentioned the police, fire, Grocery Stores will not be shutting down because of the shutdown order. There are a few other businesses, in fact a lot on the list of essential businesses you might not have considered. Reporter the marco polo laundromat in san jose is keeping the lights on in the water flowing during these times of crisis i checked with the Health Department and they said stay open as it is a necessity for people to wash their clothing. They have staff that disinfect the washing machines and dryers and is giving out gloves and Hand Sanitizer plus this. We have turned up our water temperature to 150 degrees to make sure that the heat will kill any virus or bacteria in the clothing. Reporter other essential businesses are auto repair stations and gas stations. Open even though there is not much business. And Hardware Stores are allowed to stay open. This Ace Hardware Store stock supplies and tools people need will sheltering at home. Of someones toilet breaks are they have problems with their faucet they need to get it fixed. Many sitdown restaurants are closed or have switched the takeout and delivery. Fast food places allow people to get food and keep their distance. Places like this stay open and it is appreciated. We spoke to two different Law Enforcement agencies about how theyre handling this. If people are not complying with this mandatory shelter in place order, they will deliver some additional direction to Law Enforcement on what enforcement looks like.
