Paul, we saw some triple digit wind too. We got gusty winds in the mountains, triple digit heat inland. The forecast verified with the hot and windy weather we were telling you about yesterday. Its going to be with us for one more day tomorrow. The red flag warning expires around 11 00 tomorrow morning. A very windy night tonight in the hills, not in the cities. Thats where the red flag warning is in effect in the north bay and east bay. Triple digit heat. Fairfield, 101. Pittsburgh, 102. We will likely be equally as hot tomorrow. The coast being the exception, under a heat advisory during the Daylight Hours tomorrow. Temperatures outside, in the 80s and 90s. Livermore, currently 91. Santa rosa 94. Concord 97. San francisco, 82. So tomorrow, what about the highs . Well likely hit 100 again in concord. Thats 17 degrees above average. Mid90s in san jose. Right around the 9 degree mark in oakland. And a hoot of 87 warm degrees in san francisco. Then the wind direction changes and all that i just talked about goes away. Well talk about how much cooler we get coming up. As that weather kicks up the fire danger, three counties are bracing to lose power at any moment. A pg e safety shut off could hit the napa wine harvest at the worst possible time. Reporter well, its sort of the second day of uncertainty up here in napa sonoma counties. About if the power will stay on tonight and into the next day. Well, yesterday we were showing you people going out talking about grabbing generators from the Neighborhood Hardware stores. Today, power shut offs, really the talk of the Wine Industry grapevine. Were right in the thick of things. Were maybe about 40, 50 through harvest. Were picking grapes around the clock. Reporter for tom and everyone else at the winery, this really is crunch time. A 24 hour a day operation that requires multiple power systems. To use our crushing equipment, our pressing equipment, our sorting tables, on and on and on. Reporter perhaps even more important, keeping wine cool. You can see these temperatures here. Were fermenting at about 49 degrees. Reporter its the chill that allows the wine to ferment slowly, thus saving the precious flavors. So now powers critical. And especially because we have so many whites in fermentation right now. Reporter the he has looked into renting a generator. They wanted 59,000 to have the generator on stand by for two months. Reporter after this week, he says he may consider a down sized version for everything that is mission critical. Its a new world for us. You know, weve never had power outages. Maybe once in a while during a big storm in the middle of winter. Reporter okay, i want to talk about the weather. And everything really comes down to timing and weather with wine. We were in this very field back in may and we were talking about the weather then too. It was unseasonable rain. Have a listen. So if we get some heavy rains, those rains will interfere with the pollennation. These are self pollenating. Reporter remember, it was the concern that the late season rain there would damage those young sort of grapes in the making and disrupt part of part of that wine crop. Well, we got a report card on that today. It turns out the rain did affect the chardonnay grapes in this field. Im told about 20 of the crop was lost because of rain that fell. That was around the 17th of may. But that was when it happened. And sure enough, weather then of course affecting just sort of how the wine gets made. But the power thing, of course, now a discussion in this industry. Thats part of what goes on here in october, your winery better have a plan b for how to keep things going during fermentation and the harvest if the power gets shut off. We are monitoring the latest on the possible power cut offs and the high fire danger. We have you covered on air and online. Also in the news tonight, House Speaker nancy pelosi making an historic announcement earlier today. The bay area democrat opening an impeachment inquiry into President Trump. The president must be held accountable. No one is above the law. Kpix 5 on the House Speakers decision and why the bay area republicans think it could back fire. Reporter well, ken, it all comes down to time and we are headed into primary season here in california and across the country and republicans warn that this could have elector consequences. In front of american flag, speaker of the house nancy pelosi announced the house of representatives will open a formal impeachment inquiry against President Trump. I can say with authority the trump administrations actions undermine both our National Security and our intelligence and protections reporter the announcement investigations that have been going in the House Oversight and intelligence committees. The apparent own us for the announcement, the the president of the ukraine. This week, the president has admitted to asking the president of the ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically. Reporter matt kohls is what we have here at the moment is a whistle blower complaint that we know part of that complaint is about a phone call with the president of ukraine. And that phone call at least as far as the president has acknowledged it, raises really serious issues about abuse of power. Reporter while democrats have been pushing for impeachment for some time, some bay area republicans, including the california chair for the gop, warn it could back fire. In the course of a failed impeachment effort, the democrats are going to kill the chances of their frontrunner, joe biden, whose actions are what precipitated this entire dispute. Reporter an inquiry in the house doesnt necessarily mean an impeachment. If the house votes an impeachment, its like charging somebody with a crime. It doesnt convict him. It doesnt remove him from office. Reporter of course the articles of impeachment are brought by the house it requires a two thirds majority for the articles of impeachment to remove the president from office, from the senate. The last time it was tried was with bill clinton. They got a majority of the votes, but not the two thirds required. Well, peak of the flu season still months away, but already two people under the age of 65 have died this month in santa clara county. One was an adult with a chronic illness. That means rvs campers and trailers on streets 40 feet wide or less, which is the typical residential street. Nigh projects are in limbo which would bring over 3,000 Housing Units to the city. I recognize if we dont get any projects built, we dont get fees. Should we not just be giving away these incentives and not really getting anything back in return. Reporter the issue is going back and forth at city hall.
