16th and mission where it is overrun with homeless people. it's an open air drug market. >> reporter: he was one of hundreds who showed up for a community meeting with san francisco police, homeless outreach services and city supervisor asha who proposed the pilot program. >> these individuals already live here. they are living in their vehicles now. and, this is a particular tailored response for our neighborhood. >> reporter: supervisor safai says the last few years the number of homeless in the neighborhood has increased. and in response, he wants to open a triage center with 24 hour security, bathrooms, and social services. their goal, to help people move out of their vehicles and into permanent housing. >> i think it is great the city is being creative about finding solutions for this problem. >> something needs to happen to help the homeless and to keep them sleeping in front of people's homes. >> reporter: others voice concerns about whether this is the right plan for the area. >> we work hard for what we and we don't want our neighborhood going down. >> reporter: the one thing everyone does agree on is that this is not the city'sness to the homeless problem. only potentially part of the answer. that's because as of the latest estimates, there are more than 400 people that live in their cars and if this safe overnight parking lot is open, it would only hold about 33 vehicles. now, there will be more community meetings coming up in the future. and if approved, this site could open in november. live in san francisco, katie nielson, kpix5. a mountain view transient is behind bars accusing of grabbing a woman in a park, lifting her off the ground and carrying her off. the 29-year-old was walking in creek side park just before 10:00 when she was grabbed from behind. she kicked and screamed and her attacker ran off. then police got a report of a prowler. 30-year-old sergio martinez was detained, questioned. he is facing charges of attempted rape, attempted kidnapping and prowling. detectives are looking into the possibility there are more victims out there. there is some good news for a west oakland woman's shelter. in danger of eviction, serenity house has enough money to stay open just under the wire. they have helped hundreds of homeless women the past decade but they were hit by a 75% increase last year. they needed to come up with $14,000 by today to keep the doors open. but, thanks to a go fund me campaign, it has hit that goal plus an extra $10,000. donations poured in over 200 people. one anonymous donor even gave $5,000. the largest contribution. britain is warning iran of "serious consequences" if it does not release a british flag tanker. today iran released footage of the tanker seized yesterday in the strait of hormuz and the top commander for the middle east told cbs news what happened. the ship was fired on, boarded, and taken into iranian custody. the ship is now deep in iranian waters. and a second british tanker that was briefly seized was flying a liberian flag. >> the iranians boarded her, they believe they searched for british persons, found none, and allowed her to continue her voyage. >> three years later, an american cargo ship went through. the iranians left that ship alone. a ship that was part of the mission to the moon held a celebration today. it was back in 1969 the uss hornet history like the astronaut's capsule. exhibits meant to honor the past. >> people are chosen to do different things in life. these people are chosen to be an example to all of us. that anything is wasn't an average day for animal rescue or fire crews. >> first time i had ever gone up into a tree and taken any babies out of a nest before. >> reporter: the squirrel known to neighbors as emily had to be removed from this tree along with her three babies after the last few days she has attacked several people just walking by. >> we received four separate bite reports from different hospitals and medical providers. >> reporter: animal control says it is normal for mama squirrels to protect their babies but emily was a little different. she was apparently rescued about a year ago and raised by a woman living on maple street. >> she sat on my shoulder. not aggressive at all. >> reporter: a few months ago, she escaped from her home and made a new home in this tree where she had three little ones to make her extra protective. >> she was aggressive to me. she bit me a couple of times. >> it appears this one is more aggressive most likely because it was raised by humans so she wasn't afraid of humans. >> reporter: animal control wanted to remind people it is illegal to raise wild animals. if one is in distress, call rescue crews to help. they also say while squirrel bites hurt, they are not known to transmit rabies to human. >> that was ashley keen reporting. an animal shelter will care for emily and their babies until they are old enough to be released into the wild. coming up in season was bringing deangelo russell despite golden state signing the 23-year-old to a four year $117 million deal. many believe russell could be used as a trade chip by the warriors next summer.
